The Official, the Ultimate, the Amazing PFAL Thread

Mike, You want to talk about PFAL. What exactly do you want to discuss? Raf and others have said tht they feel there is anywhere from some to a lot of good in PFAL. ( OK, some have said there is no good - but I'm assuming that that is not something you want to discuss.) Let's find a subject we can all DISCUSS - without name calling and backbiting. The art here is finding the happy medium ( not the one on the corner with the crystal ball - lol :) ) So, maybe if you don't mind, Raf or dmiller can start on a subject they find in PFAL that they agree with and we can start there with a civil discussion. At least it will be a beginning. You'd be meeting people where they are at. We are getting nowhere fast right now. I'm asking that we table the "God-breathed" of PFAL. I know that this is your thread - but if we can't agree to disagree on a subject and move on - well eventually there will be no discussion because a lot of us will take our toys and go home - not out of concession, but because its just not fun anymore. I am fast tiring of this banter - it does no good and has no profit. We are at a stalemate. If this were a game of chess we would congratulate each other on a good game and go have some beers - then start another game another day. (except I don't play chess - I'd be watching - and I don't drink beer - I'd be sipping a vodka and tonic.) just a suggestion.. BTW if you would like to answer my question from several pages back I would still like to read it - either here or in a pm. I highly suggest you do put the time into a research paper. You could do it in stages - "Pfal is Godbreathed" could be you first thesis in a grander scale piece. Don't you think it would be easier if you werent fighting all these flash fires about integrity - when you're really trying to get to a bigger subject? There is a quote I heard the other day that went somethinglike this: "In any relationship there is a balance of power. The person with the most power is the person with the least commitment to the relationship because the person with the least commitment is always unwilling to compromise." Think about it - it explains a lot about a lot of things......... -

Mike, my mother has been dead for 40 years and I still remember her voice and many of the things we spoke about. I not only remember them as a picture I remember them like they are a movie running on the screen of my mind. I was 4 when she got sick and 8 when she died - oops! just gave away my age - pooh! Important words stand out. This conversation was important for HCW to remember and presumably the question was important enough for him to ask. It certainly was a big deal - that's not the type of conversation that you confuse. I feel like to tend to minimize other people's input. Can we move on??? I think you will get farther if you put it all down in one paper that is well researched and the arguments set in order - without all the noise of the forum. -
There's a LOT of intent right there, OM.. If nothing else, when twi saw these wrongs THEY should have been the ones to turn RU in to the authorities. There never should have been a coverup at all. One could say that they were trying to cover their own arses - but that still could have been handled differently. One (not me) might could argue there was no intent prior to RU being moved to Alaska - but there sure as heck was once he was moved there. I figure the intent was there all along - I only wonder why.( I don't know him and I don't think I ever did.) Did he come from money? Did twi ordain him and then had to eat their words? They were so quick to ditch some - why not this obvious liability? I was in res with two that got kicked out for being homsexual - and one came from money - lots of it! So now one can only wonder - speculate - which I am wont to do.... Twi's "logic" presented here is illogical. Why would twi protect a person that could've taken them down with his actions? By their very own doctrine they were justified in kicking him out - yet they kept on advancing him - hmmmmmmm something was rotten in New Knoxville.....again! I want to make a conclusion - but I refuse to start a rumor - I'm just thinking there had to be an "important" reason to keep him "free."

Mike, One of the things that really drew me into PFAL and twi was that when vpw said that God would teach him the word - I believed that God would also teach ME the Word. You know what? He did! I studied and I was faithful to adhere to sound research principles and I learned much more than I was directly taught by man/men. Ask any corps person who was serious about their research paper and they will tell you the same. (I realize that some were just trying to get through it - But I was serious) You don't know me at all, Mike but I can assure you that as fun loving an Italian as I can be - I am also very serious when it comes to study. I was raised Catholic by a dad that was raised in an Italian monastery. So it was very very important to me that I learn not only what the truth was but how to find the truth and how to test what men were telling me. That is what has shaped and informed me for the past 29 years. So the bottom line for me is that while I do not doubt that God can teach the scriptures and open up the Word to us - I do not agree , I cannot agree that Dr's writings are God-breathed. You come dangerously close to doing with vpw's words what many accuse the churches of doing with the scriptures - making vpw''s words say what you want them to say. I can read into his words too. I can make it seem that he was a completely different man than you describe. This is a very slippery slope. It's not sound logic - nor sound research. I have long said that when we all see Jesus we will all - every one of us - be surprised. God himself will tell us what He meant and what we got wrong. We have people who have asked vpw this( according to Raf - raf can you get a quote on this?) - and he has answered - but you will not take this because it's not written down somewhere. Do you really think he would have written this down???? Now there is much that can be learned from pfal if we could drop this subject and move on to the text - without claims of "inspiration." This subject has caused an impasse. It seems to me that it would be wiser to drop that and move on to text and details of pfal. Either end that subject or end the thread - because too many of us won't be changed and neither will you - so discussion just causes frustration and arguments. You don't need to drop your convictions to take a detour - and neither will the rest of us. You could OTOH write a research paper on your subject. Start with a thesis statement and build your argument. State the need for your paper and come up with common misconceptions before you make your primary argument. I recommend that you use Bible scripture as well as vpw's words to write your paper. Make it about 25-30 pages in length and submit it online. You'll spend much less time and have much less frustration than this method of playing cat and mouse. Just some thoughts... -

Doojable deliberately chose TOOLS - period. I wasn't purposely skewing the logic to fit my analogy. Food that is used as a tool is still food - at least that is the way I see it. My problem with you using different sources is that it seems like the pool of what you deem as God-breathed changes. I would just like to limit the argumment to written works... authored by vpw. That shouldn't be a problem. Is it? Mike I can't quote you much of what Dr said in private or on tape. I do know that a lot of what he said in private was damn near vulgar - from first hand experience. -
shell+ grass/weeds+ ants She'll ?
-
" Giving one's body to be burned" more than just working and being underpaid - for a good cause. I'll have to look at my corps notes to see what walter said - but i'm nearly positive it had to do with extreme self-sacrifice (think Mother Theresa)

Now Mike, here we go, you're looking at tapes. Please provide the quote with a lot of context from the book. I wasn't even in twi when the tapes you speak of came out - so i'm discounting them. If this quote is one of the "22" I'm sure that I don't see things the same as you do.... You also wrote: There is a fairly well defined set of writings with VPW’s name attached in “book and magazine form” that I look to as the last word, the most authoritative say on God’s Word and will expressed to grads, generally Older Leader-type Grads (OLGs). But I don't see any mention of tapes here. In fact, I find it disturbing that you place no value whatsoever on what he spoke in private because even dr used to say that "in private' is where a man truly lives. In fact, "in private' is where he made his biggest offenses - and they should count for something - even if you don't like what they count for. -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XVI Ok I wasn't right, but here are the facts on his early life. it seems that the sound bite you got on CNN and Fox just wasn't as thorough as it could be - then of course hearing things on TV usually isn't enough. IMHO
-
ckmkeon - WW2 was in 1940-ish - to 1943 ( correct me on the dates here) Soooo. if this Pope was, well, let's be generous and say 15 when he fought - and that was at least 60 years ago, that would make this Pope almost 75. I just don't think you heard those facts correctly. Not insulting you, but no matter what your source for info, you have to try to get the facts straight and keep thinking. Now maybe this Pope had relatives that fought in that war... I'll google him and find out his age....just to make sure I'm not gettting ahead of myself ..I'll get back to you

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of corps training
doojable replied to skyrider's topic in About The Way
I know I'm gonna get picked apart for this one - but I had a fairly good experience in the corps (10th +11th) I agree that all the classes tht weren't PFAl wer a lwhole lot more fun - I really like the language classes. LEAD was actually not bad for me either - even though I'm still afraid of heights - I hated the hitchhiking though I never had to run from any MOG's - which is a good thing but unbeknownst to anyone there I was so starved for acceptance that I would have enjoyed a little hanky-panky - like up in the tower of the library - I only heard about those (I AM NOT MAKING LIGHT OF ANY ABUSES!!!) I didnt' like all night bless patrol. Hated never knowing when the poop would fly. wasnt' much into running - which is funny 'cause I really got into it after graduation - -

This would seem odd, Raf. Paul was very bold about his writings and was very frequent in his insistance that God told him what to write - as did Luke and John. This is not the case with vpw. -

Thanks Tom - you're not so strange after all - i was thinking something to that effect. Mike, You have to stick to one set of sources. please don't use anything tht you are going to come back later and say "well, that source isn't realy a 'God-breathed' source.'" If you mix up the sources don't be surprised if WE mix them up - and all your explaining really doesn't help - it just appears to be you changing the tune to fit the dance. -
Lcm seemed to know a leetle tooooooo much about the thought patterns of a person toying ( that just seems like a pun to me) with homoseuality. In both letters the writing is atrocious, rude and just plain awful. It must have been to hard to type these letters because the grammar is so bad - but no one dared to correct the MOG. It's funny how he speaks about habits of uncleanliness, yet had no problem with vpw and himself having to deal with their own speeeshal brand of depravity. His masochism really came out - no wonder Donna joined the "enemy" - boy I bet that really peeved him. How come he didn't kick her out - and himself for allowing that thinking in his own household? Man o man - am I glad I got out before all this excrement hit the fan. I could just imagine dreading this type of garbage arriving in my mailbox monthly - BLAAAAGHH BTW - templelady - I'm not sure I followed your letter correctly - but were you implying that if lcm molested kids (even boys) that that mede him a homo? i'm not sure that's true. A pedophile, yes (if it's true -BIG IF!) but I don't think its considered to be one and the same (pedophilia and homosexuality) Sure seems wrong to be on this subject - i think i'll just read for a while and see where this thread goes.
-
that's close enough It's MontyPython and the Holy Grail You only missed "Anna" - (anna kourikova - but I threw her in for the guys)
-
Ok now we all need to stop and have a (((((((Group Hug))))))) Totw - sorry you went threw so much - I can feel for you Jonny - You're a really great guy ex10 - you're cool -- even if you are vertically challenged (too tall) you must be one tough cookie! tonto - thanks again! All the rest of you that I don't know - hugs to you all! we need to start a new thread....

I should have said "Insomnia - (sad)dammit get that thing out of my mouth!"
-
Now,now Jonny you never know when Mrs. Lingo (the TEN cow woman) will want to read this besides, Selma Hayek is already booked to play ME in my movie aobut a struggling young artist who joins this cult and almost forgets her gift - but rediscovers it in her latter years..... You'll have to hurry if you want a YOUNG Matt Damon to play anything.
-
You're a great writer Jonny. Why don't you consider writing a book of your memoirs as a merchant marine? BTW great use of onomonopoeia (alliteration) in the title Wasn't it nice of all those creatures to get to just the right place for you to describe them just right...
