  1. Hey Folks, Many of you know that I teach Drawing to kids and adults alike. Every year for the past seven years now I am struck by all the comparisons between right =-brained activity and spiritual matters. Please bear with me as I elaborate on this - I've been itching to share this for years now and getting it all out on the page is important to me. My classes are based on Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. Her research was the result of studies done on stroke patients - along with art techniques. My focus here in this post is not to make artists of you (tho it would be nice ) I really have another point to make – that being that its possible that we learned to "listen to God" with the wrong half of our brains…..Let me know what you think: Right Brain Intuition Slow Complex "Real" Sees Listens Emotions Loses track of time Left Brain Formulaic Fast Simple Symbolic Looks Hears Language Time Keeper I realize that it is easy to oversimplify anything having to do with the brain or matters of God, for that matter. But – doesn't it strike you as odd that we learned about spiritual matters from such a left brain perspective? I'm not saying that logic has no place in the things of God – just that it is possible to think something to death. (Just think about all those lists of things we needed to do and all the time charts…. I fear that I'm simply not doing this subject justice – ask me some questions and I'll answer as best I can. I'll even post some of my students' works for your entertainment if you like. Dooj

Tell "She Who Must Be Obeyed" that we will make her a judge if she wants!!! Or not - whatever she wants ...
  4. The sad thing is that I heard of a time when a certain "leader" in CA said that he couldn't pray for a man's son unless he got permission from Loy Boy - Geez! This isn't my story so I can't tell it - but rest assured that I got real sick just hearing about it...... So much pain and so little compassion - makes one almost cry...

   But I did find this : Bhai dooj has its own importance in continuing to maintain the love between brothers and sisters for it is the day of food-sharing, gift-giving and reaching out to the inner most depths of the hearts. Seems about right for our little get together - so I'll give RumRunner a pass.

YID - this contest has nothing to do with the great state of Texas. Its just a matter of my proving to RumRunner that I am the better cheesecake chef. I've had all sorts of pecan pie - with bourbon, chocolate, chopped pecans, whole pecans.....its always great OTHO - pecan pie is traditional here in the South for Thanksgiving - and since the BBQ is so close to the holidays - it sure would seem redundant to have it yet another time... Sure would love to have you tho! (Ummmm let me rephrase that - we sure would love to have you there with us at the BBQ....didn't want to come off as being cannibalistic or anything - LOL)
  10. Eagle, Thanks for recognizing that not every corps was bad. Even now I see so many who are salt of the earth - even if they strayed for a time. I knew many fine men and women, and I find more and more of them daily.
  11. Ok well - here goes I have always believed in the power of a meal to bind people In our family - every Sunday morning we have homemade pancakes - no boxed mixes -with real maple syrup On more than one occasion I have had "pasta parties." During these I would have some homemade pasta dough started. I assigned a job to each party goer - and we would all "work for our meal - LOL" In the process I would teach someone how to make real italian sauce and meatballs, someone else learned how to make ravioli, someone else had to make a killer salad. We not only had a great time over great food - but we all went home with enough food for another meal. The best ever party I ever threw was a "Minestrone Party." Here I called folks and told them to bring "one carrot" or " a head of cabbage" More than one person was told to bring a bottle of wine. I had a bunch of italian h'ors d'oevres ready and every one participated in chopping and mincing and adding to the pot. Wine flowed and when we finally did get to eat - no one really cared about the food - because we all had done something together. The last folks left at 2AM.

Dmiller - I'm sure there will be some eggs left over - but I plan on using them to make homemade blueberry pancakes to send everyone off. Between all the great food, great friends, and Ex10's hospitiality - I'm sure that a good time will be had by all.

dmiller - If you listen to Rummy you will go down that slippery slope that leads you to tasteless cheesecake. I'll make as many cheesecakes as necessary - and every one of them will be a winner. If you want a good cheesecake - don't go to a RumRunner to do a doojable's job......
