Whenever someone shouts at me, "Don't tell me what to do with my kid!" I Shout right back, "HEY! That kid is not your's forever - he has to grow up and become his own person and someone elses Dad!" Some folks forget that "their" kids doesn't refer to "their property." That being said, I'm no fan of government intervention in how a child is raised - but I can see how this law is being set up as a sort of back door to get parents who are skilled at hiding their abuse. I'm still not for the law - I just like to look at both sides of an issue for a long time.

I spanked very infrequently - as in almost never. I was more of a mind to try to talk to my kids - of course that got me comments like, "You're EXPLAINING SOMETHING TO A THREE YEAR OLD!" And of course that was followed with some blah blah yadda yadda that I had just handed the control to my kid. In retorespect, I DID give my girls some control. They learned to reason and listen to reason. At least that's what I taught them. I'm not a fan of spanking just because a child has stepped out of line. I'm also not a fan of the grand, bullying threats of punishment of epic proportions just because a shoe is left out of place.

BTW - there ARE better photos of me from that weekend - can we use those please.... I may be shameless - But I still have my pride. :biglaugh:

Down-pause: The sudden silence in a car when you drive under and underpass or bridge in a heavy rain. "While driving to Granny's house in a thunderstorm, there were many down-pauses."

That was pure me! I don't need no "help" to get up and dance!

Andrea Parker Jerry Lewis trash can Toulouse Lautrec Parker Lewis Can't Lose? Man! This is obscure! I put together the "can Toulouse" and then deduced the "Parker Lewis" I had to google that to see if it was a viable answer.

Ya know......I still marvel at how much a random act of kindness heals a heart. The youngest dooj is a new girl in many ways. She's always been independent, but now she really has a sense of "self" about her. I have to say that it's not because it's a new computer, but rather that a person other than family invested in her. Please take the time to do something nice for someone this week. Doesn't have to be a big monetary thing - just a kind, heartfelt act. MWAH!

I bought that for the CHEESECAKE!

I inhaled, hitched, and I too am guilty of still driving too fast. The things I WOULD NOT DO in the end were the things that led me to leave. -
Ala - I'm not a usual here as I don't play guitar...but you got some GREAT TASTE in music. This is a good piece. I liked it a lot.

Excie - just keep praying away - doesn't it say that "He looks after the sparrow..." or something to that effect - well I think I read a clause in that contract that stated cockatiels were included as well.

I'm sure there are many, many stories of generosity here at the Cafe. I'd like to share one: We have been a family of four operating on one computer for years. Both girls are very computer savvy - but it seemed like it was getting to the point that my youngest was having to "take a number" to get any computer time. A friend that I met here at the Cafe has become a "3-D friend" and offered to send my little darling an old computer when a new onewas purchased. We were thrilled to say the least. Then one day, the call came... Me: "Hello?" Friend: "Yes, this is ______________." Me: "Hi! What's up?" chit chat chit chat...yadda yadda yadda... Friend: "Well I better let you know now that your daughter will not be getting my old computer, I've decided to buy her a new one instead!" ME: "WHAT? NO! REALLY?" Needless to say, I was speechless. The only request that was made was that it remain anonymous and that I pay it forward - which I have come close to doing. It arrived today! It came in six (SIX!) boxes and took two hours to set up. She has more whistes and bells than I have ever seen. Good does happen here in many more ways than we ever see or know. I just wanted to make this event known.

You know Hope, that's right. I did meet some of the finest people during my time in residence - people that I came here to find. I'm so glad that God works in spite of the organization.
