I knew Jan. Actually, there were two Norwegians at HQ when I was there and if I'm not mistaken they were both named "Jan." They were translating various materials into Norwegian. Sad, very sad.

I'm lucky this year because the kids have Spring Break this week. Usually it takes them about three weeks to recover from the time change - and it's always worst for the younger one. I'm not so sure DST really accomplishes anything significant. The only benefit I can see in keeping it is that in Fall I get that extra hour of sleep. Nice!

How is everyone out there? If I promise not to talk about recipes will you come out and play?

I posted a delicious lamb recipe here: Braised Lamb Shanks

I tried this once in an offshoot. It didn't go well to say the least. Ultimately, to go into an organization with the intent of a non-hostile takeover has an element of dishonesty to it. If nothing else, these kids will be put in situations that challenge their loyalty to the cult - and they will be discovered. Even if they can pull it off - I would think that the price is too high. They will have to find a way to deal with both not being true to themselves and being dishonest with God. The energy that it takes to maintain that level of stealth is enormous and it will suck the life out of them. TWI has taken too much from too many - why add to the toll? Just what will happen when one of them finds themselves in a "motorcoach" situation???? So they want to learn the "good." MY advice to these courageous kids is to find another way. Why does TWI have to be saved??? Why not just serve God and follow where He leads? Some of us posting were Corps and we know how the experience can change a person. - Take it from me - there are better and kinder ways to accomplish a positive change. The negative change should be avoided entirely. While it can be avoided while in residence, there is a lot of "soul patching" that has to be done. In short RUN!

Laura, I apologize for not realizing that you only speak Spanish. I am not one of those typical Americans that expect the rest of the world to speak my language. Perhaps I assumed that since you are posting on a board and in a forum that is English, that you yourself did know some English as well and were being funny - as many of us here at the Cafe are at times. Hence, my sarcastic remark... Please forgive me if I offended or hurt your feelings. I hope you find many friends here at the Cafe. I unfortunately, spent my High School years learning French so I must bid you "A bientot." (I think that is "Hasta la vista." - although I am not sure if I have spelled it properly.) Dooj Would some kind soul care to translate.....?

Only if we can play it all in reverse! -
Je ne comprende pas..... Porquoi vous ne parlez pas en Anglais? As long as we're speaking in "tongues" here - might as well make it the tower of Babel. Anyone know Klingon or Elfin?

Grandma's Leg of Lamb Prepare a bone-in leg of lamb by "drilling" holes with a shap knife and putting mint and garlic in each hole (about ten holes.) Make a wet paste out of: Minced garlic, Romano cheese Italian Bread crumbs Minced mint Fresh lemon juice ( at least 3 lemons) Extra virgin olive oil Make about 2 or 3 cups of this paste. Completely cover the lamb with the paste. Preheat oven to 450F. Place lamb on rack in a heavy roasting pan and put in oven, immediately reducing the heat to 350F. Roast at approx 20 min per pound. (Check a good cookbook for temperatures according to the way you like lamb.) For a real treat - cut white potatoes and sweet potatoes in quarters and spray olive oil on them. Place around the roast when there is approximately one hour left. Let the roast stand for 12 minutes before carving. The meat has a delicious crust that keeps the juices in and the potatoes will be a bit crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

Actually Cowgirl, I DO see the completed piece in my mind's eye even before I start it - to an extent. I also allow for what I call "happy accidents." Those times when I've understood more, seen more, learned more about my subject . Sometimes the paint lays a certan way and you just say< "That's it! It's done!" Is that being a realist or an idealist? Maybe it's just being an artist....
-
I'm an optimist and a realist. As an artist I am trained to see - really see what is in front of me. I seem to carry that over to other parts of my life. I can see what is going on and I try to deal with it in a manner that is appropriate. OTOH - I also see the good in folks and I try to encourage that. As for dreaming....well, I love dreaming! I don't want to be dreaming when the train is heading towards me though! So I've learned to welcome the more "pessimistic" realists in my life who wake me up when I linger too long.
