  1. Good Lord people! The Bible doesn't say that we "believe FOR anything"! It says, When you pray - believe. When - that's if you pray You pray - ummmmm - seems simple to me.... Believe: Believe that God is good. Believe that God is smarter than you are. Believe that God loves you and wants the best for you. Believe that God will take care of you.
  2. Oldiesman: Gal 5:16-21 are DIRECT CONTRAST to Gal 5:22-26 The first list includes adultery, drunkenness, and an unheavenly host of other works of the flesh. I'm not going to comment on whether or not VP was saved. I just know that Jesus said that His Father's house had many rooms - so IF VP was saved, I hope my room is far, far, far away from his. More telling than this is the list of what the requirements for a minister are and how to recognize a wolf in sheep's clothing.
  3. Chas - can you post a link to these in the soup thread? They look GREAT!
  4. I've read that as well Dan. Of course that would make sense with Christ being the Head of the Body. I don't know much about Greek. I do know that in some languages, "Dhrist in you (sing.) would put the emphasis on "each and every individual," as opposed to collectively. There has got to be someone here that knows more about Greek...
  5. Beef Stew 2 lbs stew meat flour for dredging Olive oil onions garlic celery - 3 or 4 ribs carrots -4-5 cut into 1" pieces frozen peas, or green beans (or both!) yukon gold potatoes (I like the small ones) salt and pepper 1 tsp celery seed pinch rosemary 1/2 tsp basil 1 TBS chili powder 4-5 TBS Worcestershire sauce 4 cups beef stock 4 cups (or more) water dredge meat in flour and brown in heavy skillet. In a heavy soup pot (6-8 qt) sauted the onion until transparent. Add carrots and celery and garlic. Add potatoes and cook about 5 min. more. (Add green beans.) Add seasonings and stock and water. Simmer at least 1 hour. Add peas about 1/2 before serving. You can also add 1 can of diced tomatoes - this makes the soup a little more like a meaty minestrone.
  6. God did make us to be robots, true. Our POV and His are different. I'm not going to argue semantics here. My point is that God only alters things in a response to keep us "on track." IMHO
  7. Since God is omnicient, I can't see how there can be any Plan A, Plan B, Plan C... There is only the will of God. The only changes come because we as humans with finite knowlege have to identify different plans. Do you really think that God was surprised and taken aback during those times that we percieve the rules changing? I think not...
  8. *Dooj runs for cover*!!!!!! (And gets as far from Dmiller as possible.)
  9. Oh geez! Someday I hope to be able to tell you in person a story involving a person who could not say, "Yonkers."
  10. Abi are you sure you weren't raised in New York? My Jewish friends used to talk about sour cream and bananas all the time.

  14. I'll get you a recipe real soon dear! ;) *Dooj goes and gets her trusty copy of The Joy of Cooking...Hmmmm..page 185...There it is...* Cream of Tomato Soup Simmer covered about 15 min: 2 cups canned or seeded skinned, cut up fresh tomatoes 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/4 cup chopped onion 2 tsp white or brown sugar Prepare: 4 cups White Sauce: 12 TBS butter 12 TBS flour 4 cups liquid (if you want a light soup use vegetable or chicken broth, for a heavier soup use milk) Strain into this the tomato and vegetable stock Season to taste Note: I would automatically without even trying this recipe, add garlic and basil to the beginning stock (the tomato, celery and onion mixture)
  15. Abi - come sit at the table and have some coffee with Larry and I. T-Bone - stop beating Tonto ;) and sit down and join us...
  16. I keep telling that to my kids, T-Bone. For some reason they keep laughing. :biglaugh:
  17. Okay, it seems you and I worked this out. (At least I feel like we've come to a meeting of the minds.) No food was flung. No gravy was spilled (whew! Or else Eyes would have my butt!) Time to have a cup of coffee. The biscuits are almost ready. Happy Birthday, Larry. ;)
  18. Turkey Chili! I better go post a recipe...
  19. Heck - Just pour the chili on the bird and make it a meal!
  20. Abi - perhaps it's me - but I saw Tonto's post as a rant. That's all. I purposely chose Star Trek because I know that there are some real Trekkies here at the Cafe. I figured if I was mistaken about the post not being all that bad, I'd be soundly corrected - again. You're right. We all filter things through our own perspectives. Just because I process something you or anyone else says and it ticks me off - that neither makes you a bully or me bull-headed. Just because you (hypothetically ;)) may say something that angers me - doesn't mean there was intent on your part, though the anger is still there. That's for me to deal with. Hopefully we would both be mature enough to talk it out without resorting to name calling and accusations.
  21. That's the way I heard it... No you have not. That doesn't mean that it hasn't happened. I don't know anything about psychology. I'm an artist. I don't re-visit my past all that much. If you think I have, please show me where I have. I spent 20 years out of TWI before coming here. Ten of those years were spent in re-examining my thought processes, and changing them. I'm a much different woman than you would have met 20 years ago. (Except I was an excellent cook then as well. ) The Apostle Paul spent at least 14 years changing some of his POVs (and yes, I know the community had to trust him again.)
  22. I have the advantage of knowing Tonto in real life. This is her real POV of her time in TWI. Funny, that's not what it implied to me. Perhaps that's because I have a more personal perspective on the matter. I see no evidence that she feels anyone is a "mindless follower." I do however, read a certain level of frustration in her tone. From the little I know about people, something most likely set her off and she needed to get something off her chest. Because you left TWI. It may that is part of the answer for you. You know the saying, "You can take the boy out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the boy." You're reasonably intelligent Larry. You and I both know that you don't have to be a member of any group to agree with what they say. I'm not a member of the Portrait Artist's Guild, but I believe it when they tell me to take many more photos than I think I will need to complete a painting. It's equally insulting for a person who did leave the cult to be told that they are wrong for not believing it's precepts. I see how the fur can fly. When I left TWI - it was of my own accord, but it also took me a long time to get it out of my thought processes. Everyone has to move at their own speed in whatever process God leads them through. I can't tell you that you need to move faster or slow down, all I can do is tell you where I am in that process and how I got there. I can also refuse to go back.
