Copenhagen, Sometimes it helps to get things in perspective, and then decide what it is you want. There were some GREAT things about some of the fellowships - as you stated. Of course those things many times happened with a bunch of skeletons hanging in closets that everyone was directing us away from. So what is it that you want? A church home? To meet great people? To have some of your old friends to keep in touch? It may be that what you once had as an "all-in-one" package now needs to be divided up. (I think a few other posters have said this already.) The great thing about that is that you will meet even more people. Also, if you are involved in many things, then no one things can set you up for complete disappointment, as TWI did. I searched for a church and was able to find one that served not only my needs, but my kids' needs as well. I got involved with the PTA and various other school responsiblities. I returned to my hobbies and re-nurtured my talents in various classes. It may take a while, but you certainly have many fine folks here who are willing to bounce ideas around. Take your time, and take care!

For the record, I am not one to say, "You must forgive." No one has the authority to demand someone to forgive, neither does anyone have any say in the matter whatsoever. That decision is best made between a person and God. I will repeat - over and over and over again - that I truly believe that forgiveness DOES NOT MEAN FORGETTING. God says of Himself that He casts our sins as far as the East is from the West, and that's a good thing - because, well, He's God. (Who wants go try to live without condemnation when "The Big Guy" remembers every sin? :o ) But He has not said that I need to forget the wrong I have forgiven someone for. Funny, even though God forgives us, He chooses in Ephesians to remind us of our depraved state prior to being born again. To remember is wise. To remember is right. Forgive if and when you are ready - at a time YOU decide - but never ever forget - that way you will not be deceived again.

Two songs to welcome new Greasespotters. I meant it to be a separate thread but some moderator moved it. I'm usually told why my posts are changed or moved - but this time all I got was silence.Anyway - Enjoy!Sarah McLachlan and Carlos Santana - "In the Arms of an Angel" Jimmy Cliff - "Many Rivers to Cross"

Jesus prayed for those who took part in his crucifixion -- whether by cheering it on or actual mockery, or driving the nails -- "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." One man was promised Paradise. The others received only forgiveness. Perhaps this is the difference in our lives today. PERHAPS... Perhaps when we forgive we grant just that -- forgiveness -- and a release from what binds us emotionally. Perhaps there is more for those who ask for forgiveness. We are, afterall, the Body of Christ. Perhaps...

Hard to watch either of them...It's just not my kind of humor. I would have pegged Chris Crocker as a guy without any help (Hint - most women don't have 5 o'clock shadows ;)) I avoided this video when I first saw it - mostly because I don't care about Britney Spears one way or another. To me it was just another Hollywood drama.

The subject of forgiveness was touched on in a thread by the same name. There are some quotes from a book, What's So Amazing About Grace by Phillip Yancy. Forgiveness Thread

I think he's referring to the phrase, "O my God" This is sometimes said with a pregnant pause between each word, "Oh-My-God!"

The law of believing-NO GOD NEEDED
doojable replied to nyunknown's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I don't know where this thread is..I haven't read much of the last few pages. I'm gonna give my two cents anyway. Any "believing" that is going to have any power or result in our lives is going to have to include a belief that God's Word is true. It's not "how big" or "how much more" you believe; it is THAT you believe. When the disciples asked Jesus to "increase their faith" (I'll find the scripture reference later, along with any pertinent Greek words) they were asking for their faith to "be made bigger." They wanted VOLUME. Jesus said it was only THAT they believe. That is where he starts talking about believing the size of a mustard seed. So it is: THAT God can heal... THAT God delivers... THAT God supplies... THAT God is a loving Father that takes care of His children... One cannot increase his or her faith. He can only increase how many promises he believes. We were always saying that we needed to "believe bigger" and that was just a bunch of bunk. And still there are no guarantees because sometimes the answer to prayer is, "No." If we are honestly going to proclaim God's sovereignty, then we must also accept when he does not give us what we ask for - believing or not. And in my humble opinion, THAT is why believing is not a LAW. I am instructed to have faith...I'd say it is a strong request, by the Father that we believe what he has told us and allow Him to be a Heavenly parent. -
I just re-read my post and I don't think I fully conveyed that I can still call someone a friend even after disagreeing with them. I don't think that "rubber-stamping" a person's opinion just because they are a friend is the way to maintain a healthy relationship. I don't want to give the impression that I am an adversarial wench waiting to cast my disapproval on everyone that crosses me. (LOL I can't even type that last sentence without giggling and seeing the complete absurdity of the statement.) Basically, when the joking is fun and in line - I play along. When I think it's gotten mean or out of hand - I say something. I expect the same from my friends - and I get just that.

I've been catching up here. For what it's worth, I may not like what any particular poster has said at any given time. That's a reflection of life. I totally reserve the right to disagree, and even disagree strongly with anyone's POV, and still get up the next day and look forward to reading what they have to say. I can handle having a person I call "friend" not holding every single one of my esteemed (;)) viewpoints. I call "BS" on my dearest friends. I also do it to my own two kids. Anyone that knows me in real life also knows that I don't really have a problem telling someone when I think they're wrong. I may not always get nose to nose with them, (in fact I rarely get nose to nose with anyone) but I still find a way to let them know I don't agree with their POV - and sometimes I strongly disagree. To me that's honest.

Actually, when I was 18 a doctor did just that after a mammogram. I was not nice. It was creepy.
