I heard awhile back that "Mr." Phil wasn't a real "Dr." - could this be true?

We will all walk through the fires, to emerge out of the Creator's furnace with our souls purified. Everything belonging to the old will pass away, Behold - everything has become new.

Spiritual Dialogue Sessions
TheInvisibleDan replied to sirguessalot's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Hi Sirguess, That's an interesting idea. I'm not accustomed to using chatrooms though. But it might be fun to try. Much will depend for me on when I can get the PC to myself (lol). Danny -
But we mustn't overlook the "Preterist" views, which interpret many if not all of the prophetic events described in the NT as having already transpired in history, in both (or either) the physical or spiritual dimensions. For example, the destruction of Jerusalem circ. 70 AD, prophesied by Jesus in the gospels - viewed by preterists as the "second advent" of the Son of Man. It's a very interesting theory. Cool post on the "lake of fire", Galen. Danny

Thunderbolts of the Gods
TheInvisibleDan replied to lovematters's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Lovematters, I just downloaded the pdf files and having glanced through the files, I must say, "Whoa!" - this production is certainly a labor of love. I can't comment on the theory itself yet - but the authors have put together a lot of interesting materials and great pics in one place. This would make a great coffee table book - the writers ought to contact Time-Life or some other book printer along these lines. I was curious as to which program they used for the nice layout of this pdf book, which I learned was Adobe Framemaker, which I'll have to install from my "Adobe Collection' cd so I can play around with it as well, now that I've seen what this prog can do. Thank you very much for the links to this work! Danny -
duh....(slapping head) Paw's idea is far better.

If indeed "all the Christians" at this school are "shunning" others like this (good lord, where does she go to school?) - it sounds like they're being merely "Christians" in name but not in spirit. But then again, they're kids with a lot to learn and a lifetime ahead of them. Sounds like a very smart kid for her age, no doubt in no small part to the mother who raised her. :)--> Danny

"Fortean Times" had an edition devoted to the subject of Amityville a few months ago. The murders that took place in that house are certainly chilling and full of interesting mysteries. I think the ghost stories are fictitious, especially after the Warren ghosthunter-team got involved. Speaking of the Warrens, have you ever seen "A Haunting in Connecticut" on the Learning Channel? (they play it from time to time). I thought it was well done - and very creepy, for a "documentary" (whatever embellishments it certainly contains). The parents in that story were dumber than a box of rocks - they forced their sons to sleep in a bedroom in the basement, which was previously a morgue. They'll make a full-blown movie out of that someday.

Was it a better comedy than the old version? And what actor could fill James Brolin's shoes?

I kicked a news reporter out of a parking lot, when I was a janitor at a post office during my now defunct "teenage administration". Uh, the reporter was just a local talking head... channel 3 "Action News", something like that...

Is it a music file, or a file of someone speaking? If it's a someone giving a lecture or teaching, a wav editing program like "Coolpro" could help; one could either speed up the speaker a bit, in addition to excising some silent moments. Or - with a Wav editing program, simply divide the file into two wavs and burn them on 2 cds.

Was it all worth it? In my particular case, at least ... abso-freakin-lutely! I've met some interesting folk (both good 'n bad), encountered some weird, whacky way-out ideas, and have derived and continue to derive some interesting lessons from the whole experience- though such may not have been the lessons they intended to convey. In any event, I realize others here went through some unimaginable, hellish experiences with the old gigantic cult, and if I was in their shoes, my opinion would probably be theirs. I wasn't as involved as others were, and I'm glad for that. I don't value my experience due to any notion that their teachings were so grand and right and fabulous (they weren't) and Wierwille's glass-eye was worthy of being mounted on my fire place mantle. The experience is what it is to me...another episode or part of my life from which to draw lessons concerning both and bad... Danny

he also said he was convinced that the press in the USA intentionally manipulated the news about priests sexually assaulting children because they wanted to discredit "the church" Whoa, Excie. That's not good, not good at all. Oh well, at least he is old. Maybe he'll drop dead in a month, and they'll end up installing that dude from South America. Danny

Your (our) thoughts on Billy Graham
TheInvisibleDan replied to Second James's topic in About The Way
His policy is not to enter a hotel room first. he will always have someone else enter first to make sure no one is there. One time they found a woman and a photographer. Seems they were trying to start a little scandle. He didn't ever want to do anything to hurt his ministry by distroying his testimony. Ex-70s -You partly answered what my next question would have been: what sort of things occurred which precipitated Graham coming up with such a policy? What was going on throughout these Christian ministries to compel Graham to take such drastic precautions? Perhaps he really did know VP, and others like him. -
I like "eggs Benedict". A German Pope, chosen one day before Hitler's birthday. **COINCIDENCE?!!** Hope so....

Ahat, It's hard to believe that about 23 years have already slipped by since those days...one marriage and two kids in my case. I wish I could defrag my brain to recover some of those old "files". The "Jeff Houston" name certainly rings an albeit muffled bell. Ah, the old "softball field"...the one near the apartment complex where I lived, as I recall. I haven't thought about that place in years. One of my favorite things about that apartment complex was the fact that they had a swimming pool (one can't live without a swimming pool down south) and a club house that served cold draft beer. I'm guessing you visited to use the pool and enjoy some cold beverages? (I drank more beer on the WOW field than I have my entire life - perhaps that actually accounts for some of those damaged "memory" files). The "Elvis room at Chuck E. Cheese"...was the occassion the Christmas party thrown for all the WOWs? Excy - thanks for the mention of the "new gospels" stuff! Yes, it's under discussion at that dark, scary corner-of-the-GS-universe, the "Doctrinal Forum". :)--> Danny

Ahat - I wish I could place your screenname with a face in my memory. I worked at as janitor a "Bojangles" too, for about 10 months. Had to wear an orange jumpsuit; I must have appeared as an escaped convict (lol).

CM - Since I first encountered that article yesterday, I've also been wondering and hoping for a website that might publish their findings as they go along. I hope they do it this way, rather sitting on any newly discovered material for the next 20-30 years. I'll post any links I find, if there is such a site; perhaps others here may also know of some links to this particular project. Danny

Very, very interesting.. makes me wonder where the "absent Christ" concept fits into this. I don't think the "absent Christ" fits in there anymore than twi wanted this to refer to trinitarians. But if I was to perchance a guess, from what I gather from historical circumstances - this may refer to other Christian movement(s) of the time which viewed Jesus as an angelic being; those which were generally referred to as "docetists". There was also one or more groups that denied that Jesus was the expected "Christ" of the Jews, who came to fulfil their promises - but a universal Savior of a new, different god, who came to overthrow the OT law rather than fulfil it. Were these guys as evil and deceptive as "John" is making them out to be? Probably not. Christian groups back then were as competitive with each other as various Christian groups today. Danny

Your (our) thoughts on Billy Graham
TheInvisibleDan replied to Second James's topic in About The Way
When I saw the title this thread I mistook it at first as a plea to pray for Billy Graham, and momentarily thought he might be on his deathbed. I heard a few weeks ago that Jimmy Swaggert wasn't doing too well either. And old Dr. Gene Scott passed away this year, and then the Pope. It's interesting to consider that the old generation of preachers/teachers/evangelists/holy men are slowly fading away. Danny -
Charlotte would be an interesting place to revisit someday. I was WOW there in '82-83. It was a nice city as far as cities go. Do they still have "Bojangles" fast-food joints down there? I could go for one of them steak 'n egg biscuits. Danny

Actually I think there may be sections of the Book of Acts that might be construed in such a way. And Paul attesting in Galatians to how much a certain council of "so-called pillars" at Jerusalem impressed him - not - nor contributed to him in any way. This kind of prophetic-power-struggle thing raged on in the early church too. Danny
