Well my husband wanted a house cause other military people had them, and he wanted his own. So yeah, that part of life is over, but I'd always thought if someone who had the ability to advise you LIVED with you; you'd be talking about the ins and outs of a decision. We don't live in a home of our own right now, we'd lost too much money before... Jan

Well I've had nothing as dramatic as some of these instances, but I can say we possibly had bad counsel. We lived with our BC in town, and we were thinking of buying a home. He said go for it. Looking back on it, I wish he'd advised against it, as we ended up going to Germany with the army and it was difficult to sell, and then we did not want to move back there anyways. He could have told us to rent a home instead. Jan

I've heard this said before: the word of God is free, but the pipeline that carries it often is not free. Since you are out of the Way, what would you be paying money for?? Unless you order books about something you want to learn more about. I've done that. Books, tapes, that kind of thing. Jan

I don't know about errors; the book was certainly realistic. Jan

It's definitely worth your time to read it. I read it over Labor Day weekend. Granted,he seems to be atheist, but I enjoyed his personal recollections as well as documentary. Jan

A poll of how many years you were in TWI: 0 - 20years
Jan replied to Royal Gorge's topic in My Story
I was in since 1977-1991 Highest "level" achieved was twig coordinator for 6 years. No higher than that. Few repercussions. Guess I did not have the "right" kinds of "friends". LOL (barfs in barfbag) Jan -
I know what you mean. I got flashbacks when I read the book too and remembered things people said to me. I remember I was at a ROA and was new and he basically humiliated me in front of other people! I guess I was shocked more than anything, but did not leave the ministry then because I was convinced that "there was no place like this anywhere". :.( Jan

Is JW what I think it is? (Jehovah's W?) So did you choose a baptist church then? Jan

I was searching the net when I came across this website. I did not post for a few months because I was waiting for "approval to join". One day I meandered back and found out I could post! The rest is history. I wanted to praise God for an answered prayer. Some of you have said you became members of Presby, Lutheran, and other such churches. I would have never considered that possibility! We tried AOG, COG, nondenom churches because we were looking for a wholesome doctrine, great worship and fellowship. Odd, but here in AZ the churches we thought would be ideal candidates were sorely lacking either in the overbearing-ness of a pastor, weak fellowship or other things that were compromised. I want to say "bless ya" to the person who said they'd prayed over the phone book when they were searching. After being frustrated and lonely for 4 years (one couple here had been looking for 10 years!),I thought about a Presby church. Well we visited there, and I prayed that it would be a right fit and my husband and daughter would like it. Wow,the pastor not only taught about James 1 trials and temptations, but at sunday school it became a bible study as well! Not many kids there, but Ashley our daughter really liked it! I'd talked to the pastor on the phone and I liked him without meeting him. Well we met him today. There is a potluck every month, womens and men's groups, HOME bible studies as well. All with a group of less than 100 people!! I believe our search is over. SO THANKS EVERYONE! Jan

I bring up the reason about the way people act, cause some people act kind of weird if you've tried their church and then decide it's not for you..I live in a fairly small town too. It's like if you run into them somewhere they kind of look at you funny like what are YOU doing here? Who the h* are you? (not LOL but in a way it is). Jan

Hey Mr Hammeroni, why do you refer to him as a character? Just curious, I did not know very well; I sponsored him in the Corps though and visited his area. Jan

Jan replied to JustThinking's topic in About The Way
I agree; what we dwell on we make it bigger in our minds. Jan -

I would like to add that sometimes you have to visit somewheres at least twice or even a month when the "new visitor" status wears off and you see things as they are. Since we moved to AZ we have not had a church home we wanted to stay with permanently. To me it is not just about doctrine, although that is primary, but how people treat each other, what is available there. Jan
