  1. OK, I'll throw this in tonight ... could be a quickie ...
  2. Stop or my mom will shoot is that a mai tai? LOL nice on the terminator I had theatre as "the other" or the utter lol
  3. Speak for yourself. You're just praying wrong. You're out of fellowship. You haven't been ABS'ing  ... ummm lol Don't you have your magic eight ball ? Well, I agree about the Bible ... maybe parts are truth, and a wiser man than I could make it all work, and heal the sick etc. My Lord gravity is a little more absolute ... but you know, who ever thought man could fly without being a god? Maybe we just aren't understanding some chaos theory here! I just like to give people that believe it the benefit of the doubt. There seems to be a lot of good in the largely Christian basis for this country ... but how much of that is from the Bible is hard to say. Maybe I'm just arguing for fun, but I'd say experience doesn't prove or disprove the bible ... but experience (ours and others) is all we have really. Science is easy, but how do you really accurately and consistently measure how life works? If people can put a few things together and glean some truths from the Bible, maybe they are way ahead of me. Living well is maybe the best way to "figure IT out". Too much emphasis on translating estrangelo aramaic probably just leads to a false sense of superiority. Now, wine is in the Bible ... I believe in wine ... but more the jubilee year type drinking, not a little for my stomach's sake :)
  4. Mark key minor tour Ok, I cheated on the minotaur ... Mark keymine tower mark key cow man LOL the other mine of tower the other minor tour the udder cow man I'm close, right?
  5. I think it's called "hot linking" I mentioned that when i did my first one. I noticed Bluze puts them on his site ... but I guess it is stealing the material then. I wonder what it costs to download 40kb about 30 times? Once it is in your cache, it doesn't need to be reloaded each time I think. It is mostly disdained when commercial sites or blogs hot link to someone else's streaming video ... that can get expensive I'd guess. I'm guessing the total cost of the game here is a couple bucks ... no one paying more than a penny ...just a guess though Deleting old ones would at least destroy the evidence. :) Avatars can also be taken from "hot links", but maybe they are kept on Paw's site after they are resized ... not sure ... But the way this program is set up, the way to add a picture is to add a hot link. It is perhaps more egregious to have the site set up that way than for an individual to do it on occassion. It is one site taking bandwidth from others for pics as a rule. With the traffic here it is probably not significant.
  6. Ummm... I think my point was much looser ... i shouldn't have said prove, but "show" as Belle had said. I guess I'm thinking that if the Bible was absolute truth, but just needed to be understood, it would be like gravity ... just needing the proper mathematically exact understanding. I don't believe it actually fits at all exactly, but if it did, it would be the formula that always worked, if you could understand all the forces (objects?) at work in the situation. So the Bible would be the formula I guess. And life would be the two objects interacting. Maybe it is getting a little too string theory like ... which I totally don't understand, I'll stick with Newton :) But it might depend on what you believe about "the Living Word" ... becoming flesh, being God ... all that, to try to extend the analogy. I'm not the sharpest light bulb in the drawer, but I think you need gravity to "prove" it. The formula is just theory without the measurement of the objects. Actually the formula is just a measurement of gravity anyway, not a proof that it exists, I'm thinking ... well, I'm trying to think And gravity is actually just a word referring to a force (OK, that's just another word) It's all so esoterical really ... But the "fact" that we can accurately & consistently measure this Lord gravity force with that formula indicates that the force does exist. So to the extent a person is able to understand the Bible in a way that it accurately and consistently measures life ... The Word indicates that God exists. indicates it for that person ... if "The Word" is God, then "IT" exists regardless of any measurements ... like gravity exists without our definition of it. I liked that verse .. by God all things cohere .. science just measures the forces, no inkling of how or why they exist, and no explanation of how or why life exists ... just some measurements ... OK, the two little gerbils on the treadmill in my brain have been running full speed for a couple minutes now .... I need a break the green part was after resting the gerbils LOL
  7. Is VP the horse? Or momma? or the kid? Those are my only guesses ... Enquiring minds want to know :) edited ... now I'm confused ... you heard about the defrocking from the horse, or the horse told you about the kid? In any case, it's cool you knew a talking horse .. that could be a great TV show LOL
  8. thx Linda, I'm surprised they have all that searchable, nifty ... I was thinking court records from the court house. Not sure how that stuff worked in the 30's, maybe it was just hush hush instead of court ordered payments.
  9. WOW, that's cool they have all that ... but I wonder how far back the Van Wert records are really searchable. Surely something else happened to a Wierwille in the area ... though you did say controversies. His defrocking would seem a likely item, even without the gossip side. Maybe court records of child support payments? LOL Let's see, I guess Jimmy Baker is too old to be VP's progeny ... OK, here's a good rumor to start ... lcm is really VP's bastid child I change my offer, a case to whoever can hack the archives to put that in Well, he isn't a great fit ... let's see ... not JL, nor Ralph, not Vince, not Chris ... oh heck ... maybe they are all his kids ...
  10. Actually, as I remember the Uncle Harry rule was that the only thing worth going in debt for was a house. College has gotten so expensive you almost have to borrow .. not sure it is worth it anymore sometimes ... and used cars are fine if you can't pay cash for new. Some business requires debt I would think ... I've never been in debt ... and I can live on MUCH less than $50k/year but kids are expensive, I missed out on that ...
  11. Howdy David ... That looked like for the whole US, and I'm guessing only contained archives that had been put on disc. I closed it cuz of some pop up that got by my pop up blocker :) Somehow I doubt Van Wert has their 1938 papers digitized or searchable. Maybe.
  12. I'll buy a six pack of Bud Light for anyone that digs this up in the Van Wert library ! Any other rewards?
  13. I'm just unwinding with a beer here ... but I'd say maybe you have to use gravity to prove gravity .... so if someone really could make the "original texts" fit like VP claimed, that would be fine by me :) But right, the blind faith thing can get silly ... blind atheism faith can be silly too maybe ...
  14. Makes me wonder about the two corps that "believed" for a ride to LEAD in a plane ... they hitched at the airport ... yeah right LOL
  15. Groovy ... I lean toward argument in my writing, just for sport sometimes ... but I could use some instruction, but as it is I just argue without any class!
  16. I haven't seen the replay ... they reviewed it quite some time ... Did you see it? Was it the right call? edited in later ... YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!!!! it was definitely in his hand though..... I found that from an Illini forum ... So now there are 6 Big 10 teams in the top 25, with Iowa the lowest, but first in the Big 10 after beating the snot out of Michigan. LOL ... I think Illinois should be more like 16th ranked, or number 6 when Dee is hitting more than 45%.
  17. Good point, except I don't think the point has to be established ... the metaphor is to help establish or explain the point Again, I think the metaphor "works" since he said it. As you said, it is just to illustrate his "premise." Whether it is clear enough to convince anyone is another matter. lol I really wish I'd studied a little more logic ... but I think that is right. A perfect metaphor proves no more than a lame one. I did my research paper on structure in romans (good gawd). It mostly rehashed Bullinger ... but I remember one place at the end where VP put one verse extra in a previous section .. it made no sense ... the smart way guy I talked to said to put it the way VP said, so I toed the line ... I think VP was like a high school student cheating on his homework, changing a few things so it doesn't look identical ... Later I got a letter asking about making my paper into a article for GMIR. I thought, "holy crap" what the hell do I really know about structure of romans ... they got schoenheidt, cummins, crouch, and they want my sheeet ... they must really be hard up LOL WOOF ... so you are saying that is when the way went to the dogs? Sometimes you have to call em like you se 'em, and let the sleeping dogs fall where they may! Well, at least I crack myself up :)
  18. man, they're getting too lazy to even come up with new themes ... they can just pull out some of those '91 banners they got stored somewhere ...LOL
  19. LOL, no, not too naughty .... does your grad arrive 10 minutes early?
  20. Well, you only need one point of comparison for the metaphor to "work". "metaphor" and "point of comparison" got me this from Google... "An important aspect of this comparison is that the two objects which are being compared are essentially dissimilar in all aspects other than the point of comparison." So, I could guess the point could be ... I accept the Bible as proof positive like a driver's license cuz ... um ... whatever ... and I'm glad we don't use other documents to try to substantiate the validity ... cuz ... um, that would just confuse things (I actually believe that part LOL). Anyway, any one point of comparison would do ... it would be hard to say it is invalid as I see it ... unclear, poorly stated, whatever ... I guess I'm speaking up partly cuz I think it is OK to just believe the Bible cuz it was good enough for grandpa ... and considering other sources doesn't always make things clearer or better (where did it get twi?). In any case, the validity of the metaphor used isn't the issue, is it? But here is what gets me ... a thread can be unraveled ... a train of thought can be derailed or taken off track ... but HOW DO YOU DERAIL A THREAD ???? We hear this all the time on this site, yet ... Where is the outrage? I guess that is a mixed metaphor. But there's no point in rehashing all this, I mean, you can beat a dead horse to water... but you can't make him drink.
  21. I don't buy that ... my current guess is he found out after marriage that Donna was bisexual (or lesbian) and it sent him over the edge. He could hardly admit to it ... adulterous sex may have helped his shattered ego a little. Just because some Christians don't think homosexuals should be allowed to marry or become a "protected class" doesn't make them homophobic or "gay". Of course lcm's level of rage may have been inspired by something more personal than belief or politics ... maybe it was Donna or a childhood priest that was especially fond of him, or maybe he is a frustrated homosexual ... Don't we have an in house shrink in this place? You're saying Catcup and Belle started the whole thing?
  22. It would be interesting to know how many things taught in piffle were inspired not by God, but by VP's desire to justify his improper actions. I was thinking about the prophet that was "crookeder" than a dog's hind leg ... covering for himself (and I don't think crookeder is a word, but that's how I remeber him saying it) Then there was the bit where he mocks the know it all preacher "I've got the ANSWERS!" This was probably a sub-conscious rationalization ... I dunno, need a shrink on this maybe  "It's amazing they didn't break their hands when they were patting themselves on the back all the time!" LOL ... this could be it's own thread I suppose ... early indications that VP was full of the spirit of himself ... Then there's the bit about the guy that told VP he didn't know what he was talking about. VP says "it does no good to belittle a man", then he turns right around and belittles the guy ... "I've already forgotten more than that old boy will ever know blah blah" <_< He remembered these things for years and felt a need to vindicate himself perhaps. Belittling those that challenged him, and justifying his own bad behavior ... a retrospective review is in order ... LOL
  23. i search google images, then go to the picture, then right click on the pic for properties, then copy the http address. Then click on the image button in the reply space (the little icon with the tree) and paste the http address in there Do that for each pic you find I think I said all that right :)
  24. Yahoooooo :) Way to go Your turn now ...
  25. Hey fellowshipper I'm Bill Worms Mire ... at least that was craig's memory peg for me ... I had been AWOL for 20 years, but saw a bright light on the road to google something and now, thank jehosafat, I am back in alignment and harmony with my brudders and cisterns. Of course I did my time in the ninth corps, so I walked in awares, and I've been here a few months ... but can't remember if I ever said Hi to you directly ... so HI... not sure if the others crept in, but since no one seems to wear their nametag anymore, it's hard to tell. Nika, what do you teach? Philosophy? Greek? Figures of speech?
