  1. I never ate them raw lol ... they are crawfish, or mudbugs ... rip the heads off, and sorta twist out the meat ... you can suck the heads, but I learned that is where the heavy metals accumulate most ... I only did this one crawfish tourney, but the bar had them much of the time when they were in season. You get a big sack of them ... alive and crawling ... cook em with a bunch of spices and crab boil, along with corn, potatoes, onions ... then you just lay em out on a big table with newspapers and everyone picks away at them. They's mostly heads ... lotta work to get filled up, but great with beer on a warm day.
  2. We didn't mix much with Ft Worth. I went to FW like twice in 3.5 years, neither time ministry stuff.Mary Ann a speed skater ... cool. I think her sister was engaged to Lerry Lionard ... which is where I got the details of the real clean fiasco. There was an older lady in NW Dallas same way ...real nice and helpful ... forget her name.
  3. Good point ... I think the illusion of superiority and our WOW mission drew wayfers together in a false sense of unity. (I guess some fellowships had people that really cared for each other.) My better friends post twi were average blue and white collar folks that liked drinking beer and playing volleyball (and fishing and sailing). Our volleyball church played along the gulf coast, got together for beer and volleyball fellowships about 3 evenings/week ... LOL Those 12 years or so were so much more fun than the twi times. We partied through a lot of Mardi Gras, and St Pat's parades. I guess Mardi Gras was our ROA ... big parties at the homes of the people close to the big parades ... twi always had some pressure for more ABS or more classes, endless TC or BC meetings ... My new church centered around having fun ... Dave's place looks like a nice church for fiddling around ...
  4. LOL, I think I remember now, we already talked about this ... I do remember that one guy I think you had mentioned ... he sold me some window accounts in Las Colinas ... Sherin Fr**a went to my twig after she was exiled from Ft. Worth for enticing too many married men ... or something like that ... LOL Those poor helpless married guys ... good grief Then there was paul pealaantay ... and Real Clean window .. poor mary ann that got stuck with buying the company from charlie, who hid the fact that his way workers were all stealing the accounts, she was even having heart trouble, but she had left twi, so she was evil .... man there was a lot of crap going on even back then ...
  5. well, I worry about losing a loved one ... here's my Carnegie thinking ... How to stop worrying thingy ... think of the worst that can happen ... then anything less than that is better ... breathe a sigh of relief ... How does that apply? It would be easier if your brother had died when he was 4 ... no fishing, no hunting, you never knew him ... none of those great experiences ever happened, no pain from the loss. Consider that for just a minute .... Since we all die sometime, I'm thinking at some point the experiences you had with your brother will far outweigh not having them. Consider all that a gift. It's not fair he didn't get another 25 years, but it's great he had those years with you (and others). Anyway, I'm hoping that is a valid mechanism for me to deal with death, and after some grieving I think it works for most. "Better to have loved and lost" as they say. But the pain of such loss is beyond words ... glad you have a family for support ... sorry if I'm just being an arse ... but I really have thought about this ... I had an uncle i helped care for die, another uncle less close, my mom close to death once ... things that make you go hmmmm ....
  6. Good grief mark ... you make a bunch more political statements, then have the audacity to claim you want to keep this about baseball ... lol, like here, I'm going to make a bunch more ridiculous political statements, now please confine your responses to baseball ... China, our "import trade partner" what kind of language is that? what kind of "partner" has a huge trade surplus, supported by a rigged currency and slave labor, not to mention the theft of patented materials and technology? We have made "friends" with Russia? Diplomatic relations is several steps away from being "friends". I'm not quite sure France is even our "friend". This whole political talk stuff gets convoluted, i agree, but Bush hate has clouded Democrat's thinking way too much.i'd quote raf, but I don't want to be in the positilon of agreeing wth raf about anything
  7. I'd expound on that, but the sheep and I have a "don't ask, don't tell" understanding.
  8. WOW, a Johnny Walker family member ... why the heck did she hook up with twi? So Boob was a kept man? The plot thickens ...
  9. Well, wonder if he read that in a manual ... you do put the mask on yourself first ... 'cuz then you will be conscious to put it on your kid second. That is how I learned it. But craig only got it half right. Oh look, Linda is all over that :)
  10. that place doesn't look 27 years old ... man, you have quite a history there ... are you playing Irish tunes tonight? well, you are prolly already there now, aren't you laddie? LOL
  11. Well, my recent experience with lawyers tells me ... word it vaguely, then try to get as much as you can... take advantage if they are weak, blah blah blah ... Too tired and it IS st pat's day ...
  12. I'm betting this sums it up for corps ... rue the day is right overall, but mixed is right because I met people like excie ... the good folks that were there made it good, but the wickedness of the arsholes made us rue the day ... I mean really, where do you go to meet people willing to commit to Christian service like that?OK ... another glass of grape koolaid ... ummm, make that grape juice, well fermented ...
  13. You're talkin' about me, aren't you excie ... :)
  14. LOL ... well, I really didn't want to point to you ... or anyone ... but we would still like to believe those years were not totally wasted ... I agree with Poole boy on this, we did learn some things, but it is not like it was the best there was to offer. That is the next step to admit to, after seeing the "we are God's special Corps" thing was a big fat lie. Please don't do any penance .. just go drink some green beer and decide not being "Eloheim's Elite" is OK. I think it takes time to get over realizing WE are NOT God's gift to the world. Anyway, I don't want to give reproof, whatever it is is probably not loving, sheesh don't be friggin meek ... thinking too highly ... how do I know how high you are thinking ... ? I'm gonna go drink more wine now ... admittedly I may have missed the greatness of the Corps training ... party on ...
  15. hey tonto ... i was in dallas area like '81 to '84 or so ... is it possible that was over 20 years ago?
  16. I maybe should hesistantly add that ... those that think we can really run a meeting (branch limb, whatever) ... are delusional ... in some ways yes ... in many ways ... we were minor league at best ... we were in a cult .. get over it. Those that cared about people may have helped people ... others that were self serving arsehole would never cut it in the corporate world ... unless they are unionized or tenured ... man ... OK, prove me wrong ... show me a way corps arsehole that made it big based on his way training. Wasn't Bo Rearhard sposed to be some hot shot? But was his training from the corps? Did any way corpse arses really make it big in GE or Microsoft? Just curious ... open for discussion and all ...
  17. Clearly you were making a political statement ... too late to back away ... Would you want to honor Castro at the White House?
  18. Putz ... i better have a couple bottles JD ready for me if I come to your location ... Linnt .. said you weren't leadership? I'm just reading back, but this is the first I heard where she ever made any kind of statement like she was anything but trouble ... Man ... This is fun, catching up on all the aholes ... my image of putz was she really didn't want to be there, so went out drinking with the corps to fill the time .. is there more to this story? Oh, and I heard Jack Daniels was on the list of things to provide for her ... well, at least she didn't ask for Johnny Walker red or anything ... she was a little humble LOL
  19. At a news conference Tuesday, Bush remarked that the "Mission Accomplished" sign "of course, was put up by the members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying that their mission was accomplished. I know it was attributed some how to some ingenious advance man from my staff -- they weren't that ingenious, by the way." The pic I saw showed Pres Bush in a suit. Do you really hate Bush enough to want to honor Castro in the White House? Back to baseball, the pro guys are barely in spring training yet, I doubt they are even on their steroids yet ...
  20. It may be the wine talking, but reliving all this really is like the twilight zone. At the time, say you were 30, just think, maybe you'd spent most of your life outside of high school dedicated to this thing ... and there were some good folks in the midst of the crap ... now you're being told everyone is possessed ... and those eager to take up "leadership" positions are willing to play along ... others are saying "are you effin kidding me?" I think maybe I was a little better prepared since I was becoming somewhat "disenchanted" by many things, but still, I tried to be a trooper ... I remember telling someone later it was like going thru a bad divorce ... though I've never experienced that ... Yes greasy ... transcribe those please ... took me forever to d/l them on rural dial-up :) OK, green beer all around ... and a big group hug ... (unless you were one of the militant self serving arsholes ... then go eff yourself ...LOL) And a special toast to Johnny's brother ...
  21. weeee ... pinch pinch this wine is red ... it was always just a little harder to drink that green beer ... but after the first few it didn't matter much :) I'm trying to find some good irish music to download ... this is when I miss that cable connection ... I guess I could listen to Enya ...
  22. After noon on St Patty's Day ... guess it's time to finish that bottle of wine ... makes me feel fine Luck of the Irish to ya' all ... Erin go bragh .... Kiss Me ... I'm Irish
  23. You remind me of Bill ... I'm guessing you're brothers. Sounds like you learned a lot from your father. It seems to me you probably came into the corps with a "strong personality". Most probably agree they learned things in residence, but you have to weigh that against the cost. Where would you be if you'd persued other goals, and how much did the corps permanently "twist" your brain? Perhaps many didn't have a strong father role before and were more influenced by the vpw role, and the subtle influences of being in a cult. I think the subtle "we are superior" attitude was one of the worst things that got crammed in our brains. Perhaps some could read that as confidence, but I think confidence is more receptive to outside thinking. I sacrificed persuing a college type career for a Christian service type life ... the corps gave us some ugly mixture of Carnegie and Jim Baker, which often did more harm than good. Anyway, after a decade, I moved on ... Jet style packing LOL Rip their lips and slash their jaws ... rub their faces raw raw RAW Barber college Barber college Barber college
  24. Kansas Hunter Safety was one of the better items I thought. :) I remember the whole corps getting called out in the middle of the night to excercise in the muddy field. At one point Hendley said "hit your backs" drill seargent style, like to do sit ups. One branch decided to stay standing and "hit" their backs, like with their hands. That was pretty funny ... they had to do some extra excercises or something. Now I'm not sure if the BC was trying to be a wise guy, or just goofy blind obedience ... Then on the interim year, there was the call to get a list of stuff cuz the country might be attacked ... like get a shotgun, some food, warm clothes ... kinda the Red Dawn thing. I think we had a big bag of millet that we ate for a long time after that. In a way it was kinda fun, but at some point it was easy to get a little to caught up in it all. Fortunately we came out ahead on some of the junk silver we bought on one WOW's mother's credit card. And some WOW's got some nice wool sweaters. I still use the parka and sleepng bag I bought then, and I have that backpack somewhere ... come on you commies ... bring it on LOL
  25. What year was this meeting? It sounds like it was after POP ... was it that fall? Or a year later? ( I'm trying to remember what 8th corps were in LA then. Rum Runner, did you marry my dancing wow seesta? ) The New Orleans gang mostly left shortly after POP, I guess I did get the news about that meeting, which was our final goodbye mostly. For me the final was when they sent the MS LC over and at a TC meeting, there was some way off the word stuff about what could be taught, and some off the wall stuff about why they were right. I felt a little bad about not being more confrontational at that meeting, but kinda didn't want to rock the whole boat. I figured anyone wanting to know more would come talk to me about why I left ... only a couple ever did ... I was probably marked to avoid. LOL At least my twig left together.
