  1. I think get a couple squeegees from home depot ... just use a little dawn dish soap ... and ask igotout to send you some blue surgical towels (I would but I am scum and don't really care that much), they are lint free, great for getting any streaks ... actually a little 0000 steel wool is good to have on hand for minor hard water stains and tough stuff, if you keep it dry it even works on streaks how do you people graduate corpse and not know how to clean glass? You generally have fewer streaks if you use more water (with just a little soap) Wiping the squeegee each stroke is a good idea on house windows cuz they can pick up lotsa crud. But it is quite possible the windows software spirit jumped from your computer to your hardware windows. , in which case I suggest buying all new windows.
  2. I'm guessin' some of those guys wanted no liability from their past so developed a quick case of amnesia. Maybe it was just ego superseding heart ... their drive to move up the ladder trumped all. Once the ladder was gone they just wanted to move on ... who are all those little people they've been stepping on anyway? Devil spirit or character flaw?

    Color Test

LOL, I had to ask myself each time, "what color is that?" If you said it out loud it would probably work even better, but then your fellow workers might think you odd ... It might help to look just at the last letter of the word. You are not an effen idiot :)

    Color Test

100% first time ... though I did have to fight that initial response ... and I benefitted from you guys saying to read the instructions carefully. But I do think it is accurate in it's portrayal of those that get 100% the first time. MASTER RHINO I like the sound of that bow before my humongous brain* *from the Drew Carey show
  5. On LEAD there were two larger packs per twig as I recall, I got one and a smaller guy had the other. He was having a lot of trouble on the way up, and the main LEAD guy was really verbally laying into him. It seems maybe sharing the load would have been a better solution (maybe they ended up doing some of that) ... who knows what problems he was really having ... coulda been serious. Then we had two days heavy snow on the way up, they thought of bringing us back down ... wish my sorel boots were allowed, my wet feet left me with mild frostbite, but the feeling in my toes slowly came back after a month or so. My expert TC guy said they were OK since the toes weren't black. I think I had a little confidence in him since he had been military maybe (10th corpse?) ... On one day hike I remember diverting off with Mario B for a little bit (not sure why he was in charge then since he shoulda been in residence with the other 9th corps), and he was talking a little of some troubles in the program .. I forget details. Later asking Diane ? (who had been on LEAD staff interim year) she said he shouldn't have been talking about that. This is the kind of covering that went on a lot and was part of unofficial policy I think. I thought Howard Allen did go down to do some of the LEAD thing ... he thankfully changed the policy about no bathing while on LEAD. Man we really stunk when we were hitching home. After that I think everyone got cleaned up before hitting the road home.
  6. When it gets to the heart of TWI, what is not black and white about it? No one I have seen denies some genuine times with individuals, but overall it was about taking money and power and sex. There were some that had good times while genuinely being unaware of some of the nasty side. Others turned a blind eye and went singing on their merry way. Others were more disgusted but carried on for awhile. If you follow the old adage "follow the money", just think of all the folks that were in dire straits and were pressed to give more to twi. And if you consider the pay to staff with no benefits ... that may be a crime too. I guess there are different reasons why some would on staff ... because it was a high calling? to advance a worthy cause? Even if they had some good times in the process, the root of it was a fraud, plain and simple ... black and white. I think everyone's experiences "have" to be "filtered" through that. Sure there were some good things that happened in spite of the oppression ... to me the twigs or branches that helped each other with baby sitting and other things were the most genuine. It seems the farther up the tree you went, the more tainted you had to be to stick around. And somewhere between the little twiggie and the root were some "leaders" that were covering for some bad stuff they knew was going on at the root. So to me, it depends on the exact question, but it is black and white that the corruption was deeply rooted and widespread from before my time of 1975. Some positive things that happened in spite of that doesn't change the big picture. In some cases trying too hard to white wash that is just plain old denial. (not a river in Egypt) All that time "in" may not have been a complete waste, but many were misdirected from better things. But a lot of life is like that.
  7. Maybe just give yourself credit for the good times ... they happened despite the oppressiveness of twi heavy handedness. Now that you are free from that albatross, life should get even better. :) Personally I can't wait till tomorrow, 'cuz I get better lookin' every day! OK, I think that was a Joe Namath book, but I mostly feel that way The best part of the book is yet to be written, the twi part was just character development. (I guess I should add that I recognize that most stories are not fairy tales, but being out of twi puts me in a stronger position to write a better story, like twi was the antagonist and they have been killed off now ... certainly some stories were more tragic than others ... but most have a chance to move on...)

    An Interesting Fact

Good point ... DC may not be worth defending, they don't even have oil ... I heard something like that about Milwaukee ... but they at least make beer ...
  9. LOL, no kidding ... I bet it feels good just to squeeze the button, but it will only spit out so much juice so you can't overdose. I'm guessing the worst of the pain is for the first couple days, but it sounds like the drugs are doing the job. Arise and walk Rummie!
  10. Great to hear ... I wonder if those are the spirits of morphine or oxycontin. Surely he's not drinking rum yet
  11. Here it is... With tens of thousands of U.S. nuns over age 70, the Roman Catholic Church is facing a massive financial shortfall for the care of retirees in religious orders _ a gap that over the long term dwarfs costs from the clergy abuse crisis. ... Though billions of dollars have been salted away, there still remains an unfunded future liability of $8.7 billion for current nuns, priests and brothers in religious orders. The financial hole is projected by a consulting firm to exceed $20 billion by 2023. .... She says "the impact is more minimal than one might think" because members of orders "are very much about mission" and not worrying about their future needs. Also, orders are "spending their future retirement money for current bills" _ so they are not uncomfortable at the moment. ... Some religious orders are financially healthy, but Fries' office reckons that only 4 percent of current sisters are adequately funded for their retirement needs. ... Hundreds of orders have been forced to sell off assets to cover expenses. They do sound like twi a little ... get the nuns to work with a sense of mission, but don't adequately fund their retirement, God will provide ... or work till you die? then also the selling of assets to cover liabilities, the sex scandal that cost money ....
  12. That's great news ... they say it is preferable to rehab both sides at once .. great that worked out so well. Hope Rum' is up and dancing in no time ... ya put your left hip in ya put your left hip out .. ya put your left hip in and ya shake it all about ... then ya put the right hip in ...
  13. Looking at the subject line ... chemo has everything to do with this ... In his interview I saw, the kid said when he was getting the first treatment he wanted to die right there rather than endure it. Apparently he didn't have one of those mild chemo treatments. Still the government initially was deciding for him and his parents how much pain he would have to endure in following the state's chosen treatment. Not sure of this case, but it wouldn't be a surprise to find cases where the treatment choice is influenced by what is most profitable for the hospital ... or perhaps what is cheaper for the government might come into play. But maybe I'm too cynical ...
  14. One year I drove back to TN, cleaned windows, then drove back exhausted through the night. An eighth corps coulda bit the dust with me as we sleepily drifted back at 70 mph to fulfill our corpse obligations. straying from just ROA exhaustion, I remember falling asleep on the road a few times after marathon meetings and setup ... then having to get back to school or work. Once I did a 180 under an overpass ... some guy almost immediately stopped and pulled my stuck car our with his pick up ... then right ater that a semi with "GRACE" written on the side went by. A future 11th corpse was riding with me ... we could easily have departed this world early. Other times I remember sticking my head out the window, screaming and slapping myself to stay awake on the road ... And there was Kirsteen McD... not sure of the circumstances there ... but didn't she collide in a median on her way to Corps? She survived, but can't remember what finally happened with her ...she made it in residence at least for a little while. Our caring elders in the Word tended toward condemnation for lack of commitment if you didn't put in those long hours ... and we sorta took it as a challenge ... while fatigue made our brains more pliable.
  15. Yeah MarkO, bad diet police was what came to mind for me, but you beat me to it. The kid getting the chemo remarked how he was ready to die when they were giving him the treatments. Forced torture while holding the parents hostage (with threat of jail) seems a little extreme to maybe save the kid's life. Howzabout eliminating those extreme sports ... skate boarding for example. those kids are knocking themselves senseless and they don't know better. But really, shouldn't there be a test BEFORE someone has a kid? (I think someone does a comedy routine on this) And how bout forcing parents to help their kids with school work at times ... forced breast feeding (we know the long term psychological problems from missing that ... ) Of course since we now put ritalin in the school water fountains, the kids are a little easier to control, but still, some parents really need to be brought in line. And those homeschoolers ... sheesh, whoever allowed that ... most public school teachers roll their eyes at that rebellious notion. I really don't know about this kid, but the concept of state control of kids (and adults) is a big problem. Or state control of everything for that matter. But I don't have kids, so I'm really just shootin' my mouth off.
  16. I seem to remember some years where some of the elite got those white hats ... it looked to me like they were just cruising around shooting the breeze. But I had it pretty easy after working WOW burgers a couple years ... I got to ride around in a cushman and pick up money from the stands. We got to just sit around a lot. The first year I did that I remember walking across grounds with one of those cardboard file boxes full of cash from people registering ... that would have been a good parting gift

  19. Ann / Coulter / genius / camel / dromedary / spitter / humper some band drip / drop
  20. What an insidiously kind way with words ... I love it :) Beer by the quart, WOW, that and some sweet undershepherding in upstairs Anderson from some elder corps lass ... that would have changed my corpse life, but no, I was out there doing retemories while running.
  21. Some things I'm confused about ... burning wood is supposed to be carbon neutral ... so taking a bunch of trees out just returns the carbon to wherever? And when they clear the trees, don't they grow soybeans or sugar cane or something? Why would they pay to clear it just to leave it in mud? And yeah, those darn phytoplankton ... that must be a tough one to model.
  22. So I guess you guys are old enough to remember grandfather clock from Captain Kangaroo ...
  23. OK, Cubbies are gonna win one ... up 5-0 ... what could go wrong LOL Well, 2 grand slams in one inning, when did that last happen?
  24. Tom is old, you have to be patient ... It's like waking up grandfather clock!
  25. That's pretty much how I do my itineraries, except replace all the sentences with words like "planning", "details" and "thinking through" with "got together for some beer". I see they managed to squeeze some variation of the word "plan" in ten times in those few remarks.
