  1. OK, you lost me now. Here is the first post ... I find it interesting that Mrs. VPW got little or no grief from you greasespot folk about why she didn't speak up regarding her husband's sexual exploits. Donna M. certainly knew and didn't do anything either and she received many tongue lashings here at greasespot. Is it because Mrs. VPW was so well liked? Does she get a free pass for being sweet? Why the double standard? Doesn't asking why she got treated more gently immediately go to GS'ers opinions on her position ... the most obvious of which is that maybe she was dominated/abused/controlled? So she is treated more gently because most GS'ers empathize with that. That some feel empathy, but still don't hold her blameless is understandable as well. Even criminals have ugly backgrounds that one might empathize with. Maybe it is a matter of degree, the degree of her being controlled and the degree of harm to others that she didn't confront VP on. I'm missing what direction the thread was supposed to take. Was it to be a look at the type of people that are willing to treat Dorothy more gently? Or what?
  2. The subject is about how GS'ers treat Mrs. VP, which immediately gets to the various opinions of Mrs. VP's setting in Wayworld, which is what we are discussing, right? Secondly, Pluto is a dwarf planet now, so not entirely out of the planetary picture, but there are two other dwarfs instead of seven (which would have been really cool). But life is not a Snow White fairy tale. There are a lot of imperfect, nasty, lying jerks in the middle of most lives. It's hard for me to put any kind of fairy tale side into the VP predatory story. Bible clothes were the sheepskin for that wolf. Fine that maybe people learned some Bible, but what associated "evil" came linked with that learning ... like a virus inside one of those friendly joke emails. We laughed at the time, but hidden somewhere in the code was corrupt script that we have trouble removing from the overall program of our lives. So some had to reboot, some got booted, and some reformatted. OK, I got sorta carried away there :) If only it was that simple. I link the VP Bible stuff with the abuse stuff here because many want to treat VP's teachings as largely profitable, and the evil side something to be dealt with as with a crookeder than a dog's hind leg prophet. Maybe if you just took piffle and walked away, that might be true. But we are dealing with the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and how they trod on the peasants. The way scripture was twisted into our brains to accomplish that is pertinent. Dot (I mean Mrs. VP) certainly got used to the royal treatment. I remember her turning her nose up when her kahlua and cream was stirred ... oh, I don't take it stirred. Not a nice request, not even a request, just an understood "take this away and give me one done the correct way". And that was with just 4 or 5 of us in a living room. What does it take to become comfortable ordering around the peasants? Now that I hear (and I seem to recall) that it was her farm, it seems to put her in more of the power position. And oh yeah, she was a nurse and her sister had some “position”. She had a profession and a farm, what was VP at the time? I knew a guy for years in another chat that used to live in Ohio … he was closer to their age and sorta knew them a little. He mentioned she was good looking. Maybe it was VP that started feeling inadequate and he overcompensated a little? Just a thought. In any case, Mrs. VP made some choices on how to cope with VP, and she had some much more comfortable choices than many who suffer alone. In that respect it's hard to put her in the classic abuse victim category.
  3. And lets consider overtime and health care and retirement benefits. At least another 40%. I remember going up to the tip of Wierwille library on a rickety aluminum ladder to clean those windows ... what about reckless endangerment? And where is my commission for the guys I got "in the word" that sent their money in for years. And all the beer I had to drink for medication (ok, some of you saw shrinks and get other meds). I think they owe a half mil per corpse grad. Plus 6% interest for 25 years ... make it a cool $2,000,000. I call dibs on the first check.
  4. beer mug stein stir cook crawfish mudbugs wind mill green some guy some guy alive Gene Wilder ah, OK, George's hint did it, but only with IMDB search :)

    RumRunner

Rummy, Happy Happy Birthday ... hope you are up and runnin' by now
  6. Verily verily I agree with that sentiment. Wheresoever people act like they they knoweth it all, I say unto you this day, they of a truth are full of sheet. Especially when they wanteth money for their enlightened knowledge. (Although my research shows Jesus required a minimum donation to attend the sermon on the mount.)... and btw, in my church, Pluto is still a planet ...they killed Pluto ... those bastids! OK, Pluto doesn't matter ... it just seemed like dot and all covered it all ... I say any Mickey Mouse effort to explain away or soften VP's actions just because he used Bible verses as his cover is just Fluckin Goofy!
  7. I wonder if she is perceived as more of a victim, along with some of the other wives. Donna seems to have gone in with eyes wide open though, or it is perceived that way. There were a lot of victims I guess, but some passed on the abuse more than others. Also knowing about it and doing it are quite different. It was the rare bird that stood up to it and spoke up.
  8. Right tom, I never woulda got "Muse", but I guess Dust Hound gave it away. Ick is a little tough unless you ever had fish.
  9. I bet she is just getting Simon's goat ...
  10. basset hounds appear to need anti depressants ...
  11. It's Beechnut stadium ... No really it is Wrigley Field , where goats are supposed to be welcome. A goat was rejected once, and the Cubs have been cursed ever since. According to a Chicago legend William “Billy Goat” Sianis, a Chicago tavern owner and die-hard Chicago Cub fan, placed a curse on the team after his goat was not allowed into Wrigley Field for game 4 of the 1945 World Series. The goat even had a ticket but the ushers had to eject Sianis and his goat when surrounding fans began to complain about the smell. Both the owner and the goat left the stadium disappointed. On the way out of Wrigley, Sianis yelled that a World Series would never be played again in Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs lost that game and the Detroit Tigers won the 1945 World Series. The Chicago Cubs have not played in a World Series since that time, and have not won one since 1908
  12. Well gee Tom, either answer it or don't answer it ... It seems you answered it Unless someone wants to volunteer to put up a puzzle for Tom
  13. That was a great movie .. I laughed ... I cried ... But that's not it ...
  14. When we were really dry, that would happen .. I think the air actually sucks the vapor out before it hits ... or something like that ... Booty Call was pretty funny ... I'm trying to remember the scene with all the duct tape ... brain cells are sizzling ...
  15. IIRC, I used to get that message when I would get the link from the image gallery (using "copy image location"), instead of following the link all the way to the image source and then using that address. Even then sometimes people will block it somehow, but in that case it just shows up as some message, like "use your own darn server" LOL

    Science vs. God

My take is that the joke has a great punch line. Science offers nothing I know of about creation. They start with the big bang, (which I'm not sure is more than theory ... has that been "proven"?) so they really offer no challenge to "In the beginning God created". All science starts with already having the dirt (or at least the stuff that went bang). Science also starts with life ... I don't know of any theory that explains how life started, except for lightning striking primordial soup. I've heard otherwise sane scientific minded people discuss human awareness as only a computer like series of electrical responses. Sci fi seems to like to claim computers become alive when they become complex enough and programmed with emotion. But that is mostly silly sci fi, like "number 5 is alive". "The Terminator" seems to treat the computers (or the machines) as more inanimate and the humans as the living good guys. HAL in "2001" decided to protect his own existence ... then there was the big white room? Science also starts with forces existing, no rhyme or reason as to why these forces exist. These are the things science measures, along with weights and lengths. So from those measurements it does seem there is evolution and no flood covering the earth 6000 years ago. But that is why seperating God as a creator of the dirt makes sense to me in the joke. (though I don't think man will ever make life even if he starts with dirt) But if you didn't just laugh when you read "Get your own dirt", then there may be no hope for you.
  17. The 9 to 5'er types I knew liked to get those little chores done during the week so they have their weekend more free and clear. It seems twi just enjoys telling people how to live their lives, or maybe it really is part of conditioning their flock to obey.
  18. I didn't appreciate water as much till I got my own well at my place a few years ago. When you get a well drilled, then run your pump, pressure tank and water lines, then hope the water is "sweet" ... it is more of a joy to turn the faucet on. Nice that you get to have both the well and the piped in stuff. Hope you get some pics up of them putting pipe in the trench and all.
  19. Oh sure, the old "turning rocks into wine" game ... well, if you ever drank my wine you'd soon realize the joke would be on you :) If I get to where it is good wine, I may share some. Till then I'd rather save people from making the "that is pretty (grimace) good stuff (spit)" comments. The birds got a lot this year as I've been preoccupied while they seem to test sweetness and harvest on a daily basis. The good thing is I think the birds are happier since they get to eat such sweet grapes
  20. Last day of summer? Try tellin' Tom that. But it's 75 hear, and I'm pickin' grapes, so it sorta feels like fall. School startin? I don't need no education ... I don't need no thought control ... Hey Teacher ... leave them kids alone ... Which reminds me, is it too late to write "the teacher"? I have some questions for him. Wrigley Stadium? what the hell kinda blasphemous talk is that? You tell me what you think of Wrigley field, and I'll tell you how far the cubbies are gonna go this year! Dusty must go ... man , I miss Harry ... And Ozzie, man ... what is the deal with those Chi town managers? OK, Cards won ... let us Dance
  21. Well, I also assumed raf was full of sheet at full sail ... but wikipedia says "tall ship" is a real term. "Tall ship is an informal collective term for some kinds of sailing ships. Contrary to other sailing ship classification terms, tall ship does not describe a particular kind of sailing ship identified by a sail plan – both barques and brigantines, for instance, are tall ships." (Of course raf may still be at full sheet.) Still, it seems raf has submitted and moved into the less rigid church of pictionary, where part of the word or clue can be used. I guess that is a good thing. Still, I think it should be a clipper ship since the top of the pic is clipped off. Then "Yankee Clipper" or "China Clipper" or "Tuna Clipper" would be correct. (tuna cuz the pedestrians all have two knees ... "two knee clipper" ... man, I crack myself up :) )
  22. i guess some areas may have had guys ordained on requests from the area ... but some I knew seemed to be in on the fraud side ... it put the "clergy" on some special level .. which in twi was not really a good thing ... some were just not spiritually aware enough to be tuned in to the crap that was posing as their elders and spiritual guides? I don't know ... i guess some just did the best in their areas ... fine. I don't think i could call anything from VP pure. Doesn't mean everyone was in on all the evil, just unaware? I think there is zero correlation to gift ministries and ordination in twi, or maybe a negative correlation. Those that resisted the evil were kicked out, not ordained.
  23. which begs the question, what did the guys that got ordained have to overlook to get the mantle ...? Was therea n oath of secrecy, don't tell about the sexcapades? or some such thang? good grief ...
