How could you give any more benefit to the teams with the best record? I sorta like it that a team with a great season still has to have enough left to beat the challengers that "back their way in". Unless you go back to just 2 leagues with no divisions, what else would you propose? I don't feel sorry for the Yankees who spent $195 million to $83 million for Detroit. St Lou spent $89 million. And the Yanks have won the series 27 time I think, compared to 10 for St Louis in second place. In the end, even with home field advantage, those best during the season teams just couldn't pull it off when under the gun. Playoff pressure and over confidence maybe ... that's what makes it good I think.

Looks like you have fun at your Nacho cheese and brown bag wine parties I find that if my wine is not great, or if I don't want to get too smashed, I put it in a tumbler with ice and some red soda ... then I can go outside and wander around and still find my way back home. Sipping wine is for sissies. I'll add that even higher end wines are starting to go with screw on caps, and non-cork corks are better too, except for the romantic allure of popping a cork, though you get more style points if you just pull them out gently. Wine snobs might look down their noses at you if you pop, but you'll probably be the one having more fun! :)

I paid no attention to baseball for years, and much preferred when a team stuck together more and didn't make millions, go on strike, and were called names like dizzy and daffy. But hangin' with some older folks, I saw it was something they could still enjoy. I become more stoic after my team loses .. then I say I don't care ... LOL But in general terms I like to root for the underdog, and the teams with salaries a fifth that of the Yanks ... Woulda been cool to see the Brew Crew, but I'll rejoice with the Cards since they are winning :)

Even here in chat some met fan bragged a couple weeks ago how the Mets would beat all comers. I forget who it was, but I thought of them while FOX was showing all those sad Mets in the top of the 9th. Then brief hope in the bottom of the ninth, only to be crushed again ...
