Good point ... but I'm not sure diversity translates into the inner city black over the hispanic or asian. Also I'm not sure throwing them into college is the best way to improve their position. If they are not prepared to succeed there, it may leave them not much better off, even if they are somehow allowed to scrape through with a degree. "Diversity" may allow people that are new to our society to trump out the qualified struggling small town kid with great potential.This is from just a couple weeks ago. ... five of nine justices indicated Monday that school systems may run afoul of the Constitution by using students' race to promote diversity. With Sandra Day gone, race may not be allowed in the equation (loved her movies though ;) )

Apparently what we have here ... is a failure ... to communicate (cool hand luke) I'm not talking about a Christian nation ... but more how much of what America ideally stands for is rooted in "melting pot Christianity"? Evan, it does seem some are denying we have a Christian heritage. It seems to me the diversity requirement for colleges is just the tip of the diversity iceberg. Media and some people seem enamored with this "favored religion", and now we have the Supreme Court ruling in this religion's favor ... if you get my drift. Could this set legal precedent for hiring requirements? I guess to me the deists fit in with the Christians ... maybe just a general belief in a higher power and the worthiness of a greater and common good. But I would certainly not want even that general belief to be legislated. I'm more concerned that it is being legislated against. (or worse yet, ruled against by unelected judges) Should an official be able to choose to be sworn in on a Koran? That is an interesting question. The swearing on the Bible has an established American meaning. The Koran by my reading endorses murder of those that don't convert, unless they subject themselves to sharia law. I don't want that to be endorsed in an official capacity. It strikes me that America is more "melting pot Christian" whereas Iran would be more "Koranic".

I never meant Christian nation, as in a theocracy. I used "fabric being underpinned by Christianity" to try to communicate more whether the "heart and soul" of the country is Christian, whether in origin or in the heartland today. While I've heard some about these "skinhead" type groups, I'm surprised to hear some people consider these dominionists as a real potential threat, but this is the first I've even heard of them. The "80% Christians" I refer to are just those that call themselves Christian. Just what that means now and then is vague and probably not defined by a Bible verse. Someone could probably find some general uniquely American characteristics that would surely include apple pie and baseball. It does seem Islam has a place in the discussion, in light of the "forced diversity" subtopic. Radical Islam seems to be using our open society and laws to take advantage of US. And radical Islam is a large part of what is allowing an imposition on our inalienable rights. (eg. security measures that end up being not so temporary). I appreciate all the input ... carry on :)

My main reason for bringing it up was the Supreme Court ruling (as I recall) that quotas were wrong, but colleges were required to promote diversity, or some such. So what does that mean? If there is 80% white christian population, colleges have to diversify away from that apparently. I did miss P-Mosh's comment about college, but the issue seems to extend to selective enforcement of "hate speech" as well. White guys need to be very sensitive, but others can call Christian whitey anything they want. Of course that is just the impression I get. I don't think the required diversity decision is only pertinent to college. P-Mosh, it does seem you defend Muslims by pointing to the Moors, while taking christians to task for some group somewhere that you think might one day become militant. The dark ages were a long time ago and not really too relevant. It seems you are whistling past the graveyard. The Muslim problem is at hand. They have a few decades before the oil runs out and the bad factions seem to be growing. But there is also the question of the huge influx from Mexico, and the calls for another blanket amnesty. I'm not sure if they are Christian, maybe it is more a question of whether they are raised with the "apple pie all American beliefs" that I'd like to think most Americans have. I'd say "my problem" is with required diversity. I lived as a minority in New Orleans for a 15 years and was engulfed in diversity. I didn't mind it at all except for the crime.

Well, diversity means, life is good, we need to diversify with some "life is bad" people. So I am afraid to face the world as it really is because I don't think "minorities" should have points added to their SAT scores so they can get into college instead of a better qualified white guy? But it is great that you know some Chinese folks and have a Jewish friend ... I guess that changes everything .... :blink: I know Chinese, Japanese, Jewish, atheists, ugly people etc ... I also know short people, fat people and stupid people ... I've dated black women and hispanic and Belgian women ... so does my diversity thinking trump your lame diversity thinking? Then you defend the Muslim problems based on the Moors, and you say Christians today are the problem because somewhere there are kids that went to some camp and were taught to be soldiers for Jesus. I'm best at confusing people :) I guess swearing on the Bible is a nod to Christianity ... but it is really just symbolic of the seriousness of telling the truth. After a bunch of Muslims destroyed the world trade center, Christians were chastised by the government, and given special instructions to not retaliate against all Muslims. (that is sorta revising the story, but you can maybe see what I mean) Now CAIR is incessantly demanding special rights for Muslims, though maybe not getting them. I guess I don't have a great example ... it just seems there is a tendancy to give in to the diverse minority over the homebread Christian ... I'll have to get back to you ...

But should the diversity be regulated by government? With the thought police presence on the rise, there seems to be some hypersensitivity about "hate" toward other religions, while there is open season on Christian emblems.The flying imams seem to be pushing for the right to fine airlines that protect their passengers from Muslims acting outrageously. It looks to me like a push for special rights for diversity religions or races or nationalities, which means lesser rights for the 80% or so majority Christian people. I sure haven't seen indications that Christians want to put others in camps for not believing ... isn't that more what sharia law is about ... imposing extra burdens on non-muslims? And that is something being aggresively sought even in Western nations.

I suppose the heart of the country would have to include the actions it takes ... from the "power corrupts" theory, I guess man's nature is given opportunity through the power of a nation he controls. But I wasn't thinking of the politicians when I thought of the fabric of the nation ... today they may be the worst we have in the way of corruption. Even in 1776, the signers were no doubt able to write more highly than they were able to live. Still it seems they came up with some pretty good documents. I don't really know what their background was, but it seems now we are trading off some ideals for the sake of political correctness and/or convenience. I'm not sure of a specific description of it ... just a general erosion of ethical standards perhaps.

Who was speaking of condoning religious persecution? If anything I would say Christians are being "persecuted" by diversity requirements in a nation that claims to be something like 80% Christian. That was one side of the coin, so of course they are holding to that side. I would guess everyone here understands that. I did say there was the other side ... I haven't really taken a side ... That is interesting, though I'm not sure how you are measuring "hate".

Well, first, nobody listens to me anyway, but I was more specific about the leader of the thang, you were rather broad about Christianity it seemed.A few months ago I learned a woman I lived with for 6 months before leaving twi (1986) had committed suicide a while back ... I think she was in one of these offshoots ... these guys are playing with fire and I find any calls to pay them due respect rather ludicrous, maybe even dangerous. The latest I'd read sorta debunked the popular notion that we really are not a Christian based nation. As it now seems to be becoming law to create diversity, what does this do to the heart of America, our core values, the "God bless America" attitude? (I've noticed far fewer nativity scenes for Christmas now) I'm not really looking for a scriptural basis for the constitution, but more the general Christian beliefs of the time that seemed to underpin its making. It seems individual rights were important, (at least if you include the Bill of Rights). Is the fabric of our nation underpinned by Christianity?
