Way cool ... congrats Jim ... from my living room I can see my neighbor take off from his little grass strip. He's done this for 40 years or so ... he still flies and is 80. The runway has about a 70 foot elevation difference from one end to the middle. So is this the coolest thing you've ever done? (besides your family) :)

Summer is close, but it's perfect weather in Illinois today ... 70 degrees and 50% humidity ... of course you California folks get that all the time ... 83 pounds ... WOW Rocky ... congrats ... I'm sure your heart and knees are thankful as well. My sis's significant other lost 100 or so, and is getting new knees next week. I hope you retain all your jolliness though ... And happy spring to all you other good folks too.

Now you've done it ... poodles are French? Well that might be enough to upset the mad German ... but I just had to check with Wikipedia Although the FCI lists the country of origin as France, most texts agree that Poodles originated in what is now Germany. Poodles were originally gun dogs and may be seen occasionally in that role. The show clips evolved from working clips which were originally to provide warmth for major joints during duck hunts in cold water. The rest of the body is shaved for less drag in the water. Poodles have been popular all through Europe for several hundred years. They also are skilled at most other dog events including herding, agility, obediencetracking. So those French took them from being "useful" dogs and and turned them into fashion dogs. pudel was the German word, probably the derivative ... but apparently the French claimed to be the country of origin. Despite the claims of several other countries, France has now been officially recognized as its country of origin, and the breed occupies a special place on the affections of the French. It is certain that the Poodle is descended from a now nearly extinct French water dog, the Barbet and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. The name "Poodle" probably derives from the German word "Pudel," which means one who plays in water. The Poodle was used as a gun dog.

Hey Siouxzahn ... All the smoking bans make this a serious issue around Illinois lately, but outdoor air is never really considered as a second hand smoke environment. Even indoors in a second hand smoke situation, evidence is not very solid as I see it. One article said the indicators of smoke found in the blood were 70 times higher in a smoker than a "second hand smoker", yet they put the increase risk of disease at nearly the same level. There could be 20 things "linked", and none or ten might actually be part of the cause of increase risk of disease. They say that marker in the blood links these non smokers to the second hand smoke problem, but they don't account for the exteme difference in exposure levels. It seems to me many things that become politically accepted are not based on sound science. But it could be an interesting topic for discussion. :)

heh ... I assume this is humor ... if you can get cancer from your neighbor smoking on his porch, we are all doomed, and actually we should all have cancer by now. Thre are claims that consistent exposure to second hand smoke in the work place or home can increase heart disease by 25% and lung cancer by 25% or so. Other views (which make more sense to me) believe these are non scientific results or biased results ... basically junk science. There seems to be a nanny state desire to pressure smokers to stop, so some feel it is good to stop them at home and work. In Illinois legislation was just passed that makes smoking in even small bars illegal. Many bar and restaurant owners and patrons are quite upset. Here is a link to a search of junkscience.com on the subject

Right, everclear was supposed to trick the women into thinking there wasn't much alcohol in the drinks ...(I'm thinking floor parties in college where it is made by the garbage can full) It helped to avoid morning hangovers too, assuming you puked most of it up the night before... Don't spill the stuff on your marble end table tops ... sounds sweet ... just like doojable :) and a little tart too That's a good thing, isn't it?

Weren't you s'posed to give at least 10% of gross, 'cuz you wouldn't want to put the government before Gawd ... I guess you received no blessing if you only gave 10% of take home :o So if x=gross pay 0.9x > x and 0.85x > 0.9x

The Purpose of The Spanish Inquisition
rhino replied to Siouxzahn's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Thanks TL, that makes sense, though to me when doctrine made a difference, I would want "my own" interpretation, even if I found the church I mostly agreed with. I wouldn't feel a need to make waves or teach mine though. But I think of people I knew that were raised Catholic and went to Catholic school, their social life revolved around the church maybe, but their acceptance of church cannon certainly seemed widely varied. I'm not sure it would be socially acceptable to hang out, while denouncing your membership because you didn't accept every item of the canon. It seems much of what came down from Rome was disregarded ... the rules on birth control come to mind. Anyway ... thanks for the clarifications ... Oh, and thx Garth :) -
The Purpose of The Spanish Inquisition
rhino replied to Siouxzahn's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
With a limited number of churches to choose from, it seems a reality that no one will fully agree with any one of them, unless they are willing to simply submit to what they are told. There are large amounts of compromise, and huge amounts of pretending to believe, while clearly displaying by lifestyle that real belief is contrary to the Sunday persona. (with MarkO seeming to be a notably unpretentious exception) I don't see the pretenders as trying to undermine doctrine so much, more just a desire to be part of the group for moral or social reasons, without accepting all the beliefs ... (in some cases apparently, there is some concerted effort to introduce new doctrines, like the homosexual "Christian" advocates, but I'm thinking of the average Joe) So am I correct to understand that these inquisitions are sort of setting a minimum standard to maintain membership? I guess the church sets official doctrine, and these modern day "inquisitions" are really only setting lines that can't be crossed if you want to continue in that faith. And of course some churches seem to have almost no lines that would actually expel one from the church (excommunicated?). If you get a divorce that is not accepted by the church, what happens? Is there some sort of scarlet letter? Or do the boards of inquisition mostly enforce standards with preaching and peer pressure? -

LOL I appreciate your productivity ... where's that guy Tonya Harding's hubby hired?

She did seem to play the "OK, I'm taking this seriously now" attitude for a bit. Something like "I don't expect better treatment, but I hope I don't get worse treatment." OK, I'll put my money on " 8 days", then she can have her new beginning ... I don't that's enough time for her to "see the light", but it may give her a glimpse.

I just saw this ... Overcrowding has been a major issue in the L.A. County jail system, with some inmates -- even violent ones -- serving as little as 10% of their sentences. (If that standard was applied to Hilton, she would serve less than a week in jail.) Actress Michelle Rodriguez, who starred on "Lost," was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a probation violation last year but ended up serving less than a day in jail. So everyone put in a five spot, and we'll draw numbers from 1 to 45. Winner gets $225.

I'm not sure Bonds will break it ... some overly zealous fan might club him on the knee ... like what happened to Nancy Kerrigan or does Bonds have bodyguards now?

Yikes Belle ... that is bad ... doesn't look like Andrea will help you much ... hope you get some rain soon.

Hey ... I did light maintenance in dacorpse ... so I've already forgotten more about changing light than you old boys will ever know ... now you might think light doesn't need to be maintained, but I'll tell you, it gets changed all the time ... if there really is time ... light is energy God is light E=mC2 with God there is no time .... I don't have time ... to explain it ... but what I wondered with all this talk of light bulbs, is why is there no concern about heavy bulbs ... I don't mind the edit tag, it just indicates I am striving for perfection ... and I am close babe ... damm close

OK, I don't get the whole tipping thing ... I have never been tipped a dime. So I order a simple thing on the menu, I make no demands, I watch as the waitress chatters with her friends in the back and ignores me ... fine ... I pay my bill in full ... and for not demanding even normal service do I get anything from her? NO ... not a friggin nickel! What the heck? I go to get my haircut ... $10 for a normal cut, but mine is easy, worth maybe five. Bada bing bada boom .. a little crooked, no extra talc, hair on my pants ... does she give me a buck or two? NO .... she takes my full ten dollars and off she goes ... I don't get it. Oh let me add this one ... video poker ... the cute little bartender watches me lose $10 bucks for weeks, does she throw a buck or two my way since I will obviously not be able to afford food that night? NO ... but that one day I won $100, she had those eyes .. like, WEEEEE WON! Where is my 20%? I'm so happy for us! MAN ... but I drink there ... what happens if I don't pay? I mean I only put in a few bucks and got a hundred ... I owe her, right? The whole begging tipping thing is a little strange ...

I think that is the more finished, nicely insulated price. The bare barn is much less ... but not cheap. $46,033 for a 27 x 36 gambrel style plus $1,300 shipping within 300 miles Prices good through the end of the month. Price includes the labor cost for a Barnmakers Certified Installation Supervisor for 10 days. Travel expenses additional. Standard barn is designed for fifty pound snow load, 9o mph (IRC) category C wind speed, and will be adjusted according to locations. They have a drawing ... have they built any yet? I should have mentioned ... I think that is just materials and that supervisor for 10 days ... that is the only image of a finished house I saw ... yes heating all that air could be expensive ...
