  1. I don't think I have ever done that, even when the "stick" was the stock of a nice 22 rifle. The rabbit stick might work at 30 feet, but did that ever really happen at LEAD? I scared a few squirrels with one, but never even hit one. And I have a good arm. I just don't think that was ever part of LEAD, except for the hypothetical, "throw this stick ... see, that is how we help you survive!" 100 yards is funny, unless it was a remote controlled stick of dynamite ... which would be hilarious ... but I couldn't throw a stick 100 yards ... 100 feet maybe, but not to kill rabbit ... just sayin' ...

    WORLD CLOCK

or any way to verify any of that? the forest lost part reminds me of an old myth of how much rain forest was being lost. When actually computed it turned out, we would have lost all rain forest in about 6 months. This one ha (hectacre I guess) per 3 seconds I bet is myth. People on a mission feel lying is OK if it promotes their cause. But I could be wrong. Bumpy, if you really believed you could stop it. ;) I could too, but there is no hope for me ... I'll let you do it.
  3. I don't speak as an expert or wealthy person ... :) but my view has changed on whether the stock market remains a solid long term investment. Probably, but there is risk. Some "twigee" got me doing the IRA thing back in 1980, and just that and a little extra did well through 1998. But that was a real long bull market, which is still going on, depending how you look at it. What maybe makes things different is the incredible leverage in some of the derivative markets, which I don't pretend to really understand. Also the way the government allows so much money out there ... something about M1 M2 M3 ... :) Then you have huge foreign markets that seem comingled almost seamlessly ... That said, I'd be a lot wealthier if I had just listened to Bob Brinker instead of trying to figure it all out. I was a "genius" for getting out early in '98, but too leary to get back in when others were rejoining "the party". So what is Bob saying now?
  4. Great message Catcup ... you are the greatest ... I appreciate you doing this small thing for me ... I will be asking for more later ;) But really, I will try to contribute more later ... :) As they said on "Laugh In" ... "Veeeeerrrrrrry interesting"
  5. But excie, I already have you down to work registration for the 2010 corps reunion. I just assumed you would want to bless the household. I'll need you to help set up the tents, and then stay a week after to take everything down. I'll be working my old job where I collect the money. If you don't want to be assigned a job, you can send me a note and I will get with the reunion board to consider your request. It is pretty amazing that we showed up for all that work, and let them pass out assignments for our lives ... I guess we really felt we were helping "move the Word". Some things are still worth volunteering for, but even the "good causes" have people trying to take advantage of others good will.
  6. Indeedy doo doo ... Were they boy girl boy girl? I guess they untied to change clothes? So if one had to go potty at night (or anytime), they all went? In any of the "way homes" I lived in, if we did that, we would have been dragging a corpse or two around after a day.
  7. Thanks catcup ... I never made it through The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich in high school, but VP did seem to slip into the right time frame with his bag of stolen studies, wrapped up in his groovy little package. Wikipedia is handy for some more current things it seems, but for a serious student it would not be reputable ... I understand. I think the bit on Godwin's Law sounded about right, but I should remember not to depend on them for other things. Thanks
  8. Ha exwaycorps ... at least it makes for lively chatter :) I was just going by Oak's statement ... " the fact that he also did good as well as evil is a valid point for comparison." I still don't know what the other thread was. Thanks Catcup, for clearing that up. The Hitler - VPW social psychology comparisons would be interesting. (it seems the Dahmer comparison was in a different category) I seem to recall VPW saying once ... we wouldn't have been worse off (or much worse off?) if we had lost WW2. Perhaps the similarities are more than coincidental. Here is what I was thinking of in my first post ... from Wikipedia on Godwin's Law ... As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one. Godwin's Law does not question whether any particular reference or comparison to Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that one arising is increasingly probable. It is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued,[3] that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact. There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress. Godwin's Law does not apply to discussions directly addressing genocide, propaganda, or other mainstays of the Nazi regime. Since the comparison is about propaganda, it would seem to escape the law. :) The actual specific likenesses between VP and Hitler's methods would make for lively discussion. Perhaps Catcup will share a couple highlights from that two semester class.
  9. perhaps if he was more competent, he would have risen to those levels ... :(
  10. well, the point of comparison is that evil can do some good, using the extreme of Dahmer or Hitler to make the point. Still, invoking an extreme name makes for an extreme comparison. It might be better to more accurately compare Wierwille's evils to somone comparable ... ummmm He took a lot of money under false pretenses, and maybe raped/took advantage of women. There may be other comparisons that would be fairer. Swaggert ... Baker ... others ... invoking the extreme names might be hyperbole (or hyperbolic) Using Hitler or Dahmer makes for a poor comparison in my opinion. I get the point, but it introduces an order of magnitude difference in emotion.
  11. the small patch of sweet corn is coming along ... a later bunch is tasselling ... the thirteen acres is looking good, up over 10 feet. The deer are pretty happy. I hated when they were eating it as little bite size morsels ... chomp ... next stalk ... chomp ... but I'll get back at them this fall :) We are in the 12 gauge correction phase ... 75 out now here ... beats those Arizona temps .. I see 108 right now ... but it is a dry heat.
  12. Many have tried RB, but no ... But really, it worked fine just doing the search and allowing scripts from talkshoe. You can listen to all of them without signing up. I suppose you have to register to talk or write. It was intereting to put some voices with the names. I listened to parts of the others. Thanks for asking. :)
  13. If we really want to impress the guests ... we should sing "Father Abraham" complete with arm gyrations :o Good to hear you are out hiking NIKA ... were the firkins flying? Some tomatoes are almost ripe now ....
  14. If you go to Dooj's link for talkshoe ... just put in "greasespot" in the little search box ... then you can pick from the list. If you have scripts blocked, you probably need to allow talkshoe.
  15. I went there but couldn't find it ... OK, just search for Greasespot ... here we go ...
  16. dsl made it to the farm ... so paw, where is that link please? :)
  17. HA ... well, maybe those WOW's helped that family ... any good done by WOWs then was on that level more than the "saving the US from a commie invasion by our believing" level ... which I think we "did" the same year. But I do believe the 9th corps was the perfect corps ... :)
  18. I'm just catchin' up on this thread ... Ours were white becasue we were more pure than the 7th corps ... I think Embellished nametags ... rounded corners, flowers ... sacrilege ... But maybe I will pull mine out and round the edges ... hmmm, what else ... 9th corpse RIP
  19. A few VP titles are asking 40 to 80 bucks. Anybody here sold on amazon ro Ebay? I think UPS can just come and pick it up .. not much muss or fuss. You have to sign up as a seller I think. that might be VP's Magnified Ego Ha
  20. WOW ... I wonder if these priests see jail time ... I would tend to lose faith that my donation was being well spent. The archdiocese and its insurers will pay between $600 million and $650 million to about 500 plaintiffs—an average of $1.2 to $1.3 million per person. The settlement also calls for the release of confidential priest personnel files after review by a judge assigned to oversee the litigation, the sources said. ... Among the largest total payouts was $100 million in 2004 by the Diocese of Orange, Calif., to settle 90 claims. The Diocese of Covington, Ky., last year agreed to pay $84 million for 552 cases. Facing a flood of abuse claims, five dioceses—Tucson, Ariz.; Spokane, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; Davenport, Iowa, and San Diego—sought bankruptcy protection.
  21. :) well, it was a small town, like 10,000 ... nature's air conditioned city .. free lemonade if it gets over 90. They had a college though ... but they were probably hard up for news ... Just a couple hundred yards up the "holler" from the other WOW family was this family that had livestock running through the living room. You had to kick trash out of the way to walk through their living room. Was all that really 28 years ago? WOW ... VP and the hook shot LOL ...
  22. mike and sheila were in my twig ... his ritual was to get sheila on the floor and dry hump her when we got together for twig LOL then sheila was in WV when i was on my interim year ... she helped deprogram this young girl that had just started piffle ... they couldn't deprogram her I guess since I wasn't succesful in my programming yet ;) i wonder if I started "By the Way" articles. I wrote a few to the editior locally and they were titled "By The Way". I sent them to HQ and they sent me back a bunch of HQ fluff ... and a VP letter (probably a secretary) about how great it was. When did those "By the Way" articles start by VP? I think I was plagerized ... I also invented postits ...
  23. Not many will miss Bush, but it is a stretch to say the next crop of jerks will solve the problem. Unfortunately, senators seem to stay forever like kings, at least presidents can only stay 8 years. but Canada is pretty, could be a nice place to hide.
  24. come on Tony, put Albert in ... I wanted to see Pujols get the chance to win it ... "put me in coach" now there will be friction in the dugout ...
  25. well, give them that it was a brief flood ... I want to know where all that water went ... it supposedly came from space, IIRC, but I don't think the atmosphere could absorb all that. If the earth used to water itself at night somehow ... (genesis?) the atmosphere would have sucked that water up. What are we talkin' about ... 26,000 feet above sea level ... 5 miles of water above sea level ... over the whole earth ... did the water go back out to space? Life is pretty incredible, and I can't explain it ... but the whole flood thing is a pretty serious flaw in "the story" as I see it. Christian geoligists, trying to prove the story, have lost faith, as far as I know.
