  4. aww come on jonny .. you brought the subject up twice ... it is clearly on your mind ... I was just goofin' around ...
  5. I think we just had one of those eclipses ... but in light of peter beter ... it seems you are saying the Red Sox winning was part of a Russian plot ... they are RED sox after all ... it is no big secret they were all Russian agents ... any peterbeter would know that ... :o

coyotes and bobcats around DFW ... WOW ... cool ... would you suggest a nine iron, or a driver on a bobcat?
  8. Maybe the next GSC BBQ should be at Camp Gunnison. Don't Corps grads get to visit for free? Are Star and Buck and Jerry still alive? (they were horses ... but they would be 30 years old now :o) I'm sure the TWI folks want to accomodate those they wronged in the past ...
  9. People read the Bible about jerks that did bad things thousands of years ago. Perhaps we should remove all those accounts from history so we can "get on with our lives" ... and not be so bitter. Or perhaps tagging and remembering deceivers or rapists as bad people, rather than trying to rewrite history ... is the way to go. Sure there were some good times for some despite the bad things ... so what.

    Gun Talk

Some say more guns, less crime ... but here is a shirt I just saw ...
  11. I have no idea about that case, but it would seem any settlement has some give and take. P&F could continue to have their site, but they didn't really want to. And it would probably be worth something for TWI to get rid of it. So perhaps it was another bargaining chip that TWI had to pay for. I don't know that .. just sayin' they may have gotten more money by shutting it down. Yes apparently P & F had won, but when TWI went to the check out counter to pay for all their sins, that may have been added to the tab. And people were given time to copy all they wanted it seems... some of which appears here at GSC.

I'm actaully trying to attract deer for next year ... so some hunters can pay me to kill them ... It's aggravating to see one or two in the corn field munching away at the corn in its bite size stage, much worse to have them browse in the garden ... and boy can they jump ... a real deer fence needs to be like 10 feet high. If I get into growing vegies or fruits, I guess I'll need a good dog to keep the wildlife out. Our county is part of three counties they call the golden triangle, because it is so high in deer harvested, but I'm not in the thickst of the population. WG, you must be in a area thick with them also, or your car looks or sounds like an attractive buck. I've never come close to hitting one, but I'm not out at night much. They took wolves off the endangered species list now, and ranchers would like to thin them out I'm sure. But in Illinois the coyote is about the worst predator, and they aren't bad. It would be kinda cool to see bear or cougars around, but then I'd have to carry a gun to go out in the woods. Maybe some good gun deals will turn up at pawn shops if we get this economic slowdown they're talking about.

No probem T-bone ... I'm not a stay on topic nazi ... one of those that scolds people for drifting naturally into other areas, or any areas at all. Some seem to think they own the thread if they start it ... (I'm only irritated when there is a deliberate attempt to derail a thread, usually reserved for political stuff, or piffle supporters ...) But this is wide open ... I like to see the topic naturally evolve and branch out.

    Coyotes at 200 yards

Rascal, I'm surprised there are so many coyotes there with no attacks. I've seen them here stalking calves and kids (baby goats, not children :)) and they've come right in the yard on a dozen occasions at least, that I have seen, going for the two small dogs. The dogs sleep right by the house now, and when they go nuts at night it is usually a coyote, though I don't always see them. Nice picture 'Houston ... I guess that is a cougar? And thanks for the gun ideas, and the gunbroker site. I'm not a great shot by any means, but I'll work at it. I really can't imagine hiitng something at 200 yards, or being steady enough even with a good scope. I can get a free permit for a couple deer per year as a landowner, so should plan on shooting a deer sometime. Wouldn't mind having some deer sausage on hand.

    Coyotes at 200 yards

That was my recent experience from about 20 yards ... I had him dead to rights (allegedly) from my porch with my little .22 and he ran off merrily on his way ... I could hit a sparrow from that distance. Of course this was 5 year old ammo that has been out, and some go pop rather than bang.

    Coyotes at 200 yards

Thanks Jim & RonG ... I also would like to be able to get rid of some coons and groundhogs ... general varmints ... and maybe some practice shooting without spending a quarter or more per shot. My .22 generally works on the little stuff, though I try to get a quick kill on a groundhog or something that doesn't drop with one shot. The groundhogs are right in my back yard again ... There are still a couple squirrels and rabbits around ... but I want to be able to get the coyote if need be. I never related a coon would carrying off a big turkey ... interesting. 45 pounds .. wow, that's a nice turkey dinner. I always heard of weasels or fox getting at the chickens ... but I guess that makes sense ... we have tons of coons, just can't recall them getting chickens. The .223 Remington rounds are $1.25 each or so. Yikes ... no way I'll be doing target practice with those rounds. I can think of better ways to spend a hundred bucks. My cheap .22 rounds are closer to three cents ... don't remember exactly. Looks like the 30.06 rounds are $1.50 or so. I'll keep checking I guess ... thanks ...

    Coyotes at 200 yards

I've frequently seen a pair of good size ones working together. But I don't know if they ever are in packs ... except at night it sounds like a pack of them yipping away ... the local wildlife authorities may remind me of the season ... though I think it may be pretty open now ... generally the farmers want to get rid of them, they may just shoot em and maybe throw some dirt over them ... probably that would offend some big city sensitive types ... :o

    Coyotes at 200 yards

I kinda like that chorus of 10 or 15 little yippers ... sometimes they are just in the woods real close by. But I prefer deer and turkeys to the coyotes ... and if I get chickens, I don't want Wiley Coyote stalking them ...
  19. Coyotes are fun to watch ... they stalk and watch ... then swoop down and try to run off with your small dog, and have before. I've seen the cows all watch them when they have their little calves ... not sure they get many calves though. I'm not saying I'd ever shoot one of God's cute little predators ... just wondering what would bring one down from 200 yards, if I could even hit it. I saw a nice rifle with a 30 round clip and Farm & Home for a grand ... not sure how much extra the scope was. I think maybe it was a .22 magnum .. but I was just breezin' by. Are there some good online sites that can sell rifles, or is that banned? I'm thinking RonG is the expert, but please .. any hunters or curious folks ... please join in. With the dollar falling, maybe a good gun and some bullets is a good investment, maybe better than gold. You can't shoot anything with an American Eagle. Bullets might be more valuable.

    Lunar eclipse tonight

It started at 8:30 central ... not 9:30 oops ... perfectly clear here ... nice ... not quite full yet ...

    Lunar eclipse tonight

we're supposed to get cloudy just an hour or so after the eclipse ... hopefully ... You guys could always take your plane up to nova scotia ... if you were so vain ... I guess that was a solar eclipse.
  22. You can howl at the moon. You can believe in all sorts of full-moon folklore -- from the advent of werewolves to a corruption of the tides. But if you want to see the full moon aglow in a dramatic range of colors -- a shift that could be anything from bright orange to blood red to dark brown or dark gray -- then look out your window starting at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday.
  23. Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, George. Hopefully you'll find some better places to hang out with better interaction. I wonder sometimes how many people that seem really happy all the time are really happy, or just convincing themselves to be happy, or just pretending. Maybe it's all in the genes .... It does seem that new opportunities keep presenting themselves though ... there's always something ...
  24. Perhaps they want to maintain some detachment ... legally that might be wise, I dunno. Or maybe the Sowers want to encourage others from outside CFF to volunteer. but I'm still curious then, about ... practice believing to bring material abundance to you and the ministry. What ministry would that be?
  25. Well it says the Sowers part is new ... I didn't see it yesterday ... maybe they really do read here ... so we ARE being helpful after all They grow milo here in the midwest, which looks like millet to me. We had 3000 bushels or so in one bin. At $5 per bushel, that would feed a lot of mouths on the cheap. This guy sells it as bird food.
