Speaking in tongues and Interpretation and prophesy
irisheyes replied to Nero's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Thanks, Kathy, back at ya! -
Jeff, reading your post hurt my heart. Last week or so there was a thread about spaghetti and throwing the baby out with the bath water. Basically, few things are ever all good or all bad. We may have thrown an arm or leg of the baby out with the bathwater, but a lot of us retained some of what we learned at TWI, however, it had to stand the test of the spaghetti. See, we had to take everything we'd learned and clean the gravy off it (what TWI told us it meant) to see if it really was spaghetti (the truth) or not. In other words, we had to start from scratch. We couldn't trust what we had been taught because the person who mainly taught it wasn't so biblical in his lifestyle, was he? Solomon was an idolator. God warned him not to marry "strange" women, but he had about 1700 women anyway. And some of them must have been real "GOOD" because Solomon went along with them and worshipped their gods. Probably most of us who went through the Corps wish we hadn't. We had way too much spaghetti to clean, honest! We were taught to worship men, some women, but in all honesty, mostly men. I don't know that there were 1700 of them, but we were supposed to salom all of them nonetheless. Just like Solomon, the Way Corps gave people an excuse to be "better than" others. Ever notice how Solomon was the last king God picked out? He gave up after that. Like I said somewhere else tonight, three strikes and you're OUT! (Saul, David and Solomon.) Anyway, bottom line is the Corps sucked. It pitted brother against brother, wife against husband and children against parents. I don't know if had it been done differently, it would have worked. I just don't know if something like that is really God's will. I doubt it was God's will for you to lose everyone and everything and I'm so sorry you did. I do know that it is not God's will for us to be alone. We're a body. We're a family. We need each other. And, we are here for you.

Alright! Clue time? The singer has only one name (and it's not Cher). I really thought this was a give away.

Speaking in tongues and Interpretation and prophesy
irisheyes replied to Nero's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Kathy, an interesting side note: As far as I can tell, God only chose three kings on the Old Testament; Saul, David and Solomon. Kind of like three strikes and you're .................. out! The rest of the kings were not God's choosing. After the first three, God decided to wait on Jesus. I see it kind of like the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! God is not insane--it's us. Hey Roy! -
Speaking in tongues and Interpretation and prophesy

Roy, just finished reading and like Kathy, will need to read again. But, I thought your examples were wonderful. Especially liked the light bulb and the ground and God. Awesome but simple. I also just read your post a few posts up. About Jesus being like God or becoming God or God like. Yes, there are many places it seems like that. How a trinity is squeezed out of all of that baffles me. The holy spirit a person? One of three people that make up God? I just don't see it. I do think there are valid scriptures that make it seems as if Jesus was around before he was born. I'm not saying he was, I don't know. But, on a "good" day, I could give them 2/3 of the trinity. But no where near 3 out of 3. Have a good day, bro and thanks for all your time explaining! Who knows, I may have to footnote you in my book.... -
How's about a clue? They really are two doctors talking to each other. Idiots, but doctors nonetheless!

Nope! It would be considered bubble gum to Grand Funk.

Perhaps we should sling more than just food around....

Don't know no PM, and the dice would be funny for about an hour. Now, loaded dice might be a cool idea

Some great stuff. Thanks!

Sunny: My hubby just told me he has that book on Revelation and got about half way through it. So, I won't have to buy it.

Speaking in tongues and Interpretation and prophesy
irisheyes replied to Nero's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Found quite an INTERESTING scripture in Numbers this morning: (From The Message Bible): Numbers 11:24-25: "So Moses .... called together seventy of the leaders and had them stand around the Tent. God came down in a cloud and spoke to Moses and took some of the Spirit that was on him (Moses) and put it on the seventy leaders. When the Spirit rested on them they prophesied. But they didn't continue; it was a onetime event." In the KJV it doesn't read like this, but Bullinger corroborates this paraphrase. Can't help but wonder why it was only at the time they received the spirit that they could prophesy. The spirit didn't leave them.... Interesting, huh? Kind of like proof they had the spirit. Of course, they had visible proof of God in those days anyway, like the cloud by day and the fire by night. We don't get that nowadays. And, also no speaking on tongues. Just prophecy. And Joshua said the people knew they were prophesying (Spelling?) -
Is it as big as Bullinger's? Good grief, that took me almost a year to get through. Of course, I wasn't just reading that. I probably read two or three things at once. Love to read .... Will look into it. Oh, I get books on a site called Zooba.com. All their books are 9.99 and that includes shipping! The best deal I've ever found for new stuff. Of course, I read lots of fiction, but they have all sorts of categories.

I so appreciate all the input. Seems my guy has just about everything. I'll look up some of the websites. I tried the sky diving last year, but he said it would nullify his life insurance policy. I politely rescinded. :) He's done the hot air baloon deal. We had neighbors with one. I jsut got him a case of shot gun shells. This is so frustrating. I even did the sex coupon book and (embarrassing), it's still in his nightstand. He never cashed in. Boo hoo. One other hint--he has a rebuilt 55 Ford truck that should be ready about Christmas. I already did the stereo for it, and it's in showroom condition, so I don't know what else would add to it, except perhaps some stupid floor mats. That would probably be tacky though. Any new thoughts with that info?

Mark: LOL Any GALS out there with some good ideas? These guys tried, but .... nothing inventive; same old same old; if I buy another tool that stays in a box I'll SCREAM.

Yeah, neat stuff you shared. I guess I just learned more about the apocolyptic type of writing this year than ever before. There was always so much hype about Revelation that I didn't really want to study it, but last year I read Bullinger's commentary on it and even if he's wrong, boy, did he ever give it LOTS OF THOUGHT. Anyway, we pick it back up in January. It'll be interesting. Thanks again!

OKAY! I'm stumped. Any good ideas out there for presents for hubbies, boyfriends, etc.?
-
A.S. Thanks. I'll look up those scriptures ASAP.

What I meant by that was if I give you the artist, would that help guess the title? How about there were two artists?
-
Okay. Thanks! But, what do you mean by emptied out paradise and taking the firstfruits? Also, have been sitting through a study on Revelation quite different than any other. Has a lot to do with the type of writing and that the main message is HOPE. It has made me consider that what I always thought of as literal may not be quite that. So, I'm clueless about the lake for the time being. We haven't gotten to it yet. I'm curious for an explanation. Not that I believe everything.... Glad we're on the same page with some stuff though. :D
