WS: If that's the next guess up, it's the Night They Drove Old Dixie Down by non other than what's-her-name, oh, yeah, I can see her face .... Joan Baez--knew it'd come to me. -
I am so sure! There was a 12-4 a.m. sleep schedule? Was it in print? I'm not saying that because I disbelieve you, rather because that would be a good thing for your parents to have seen to prove their point, if they were so inclined. I went WOW, but missed the training because of legal problems, so who knows what they said. But, I had a Way Corps leader on the WOW field who LOVED to sleep (with whoever she could mind you). I called HQ on her when I finally had enough and you know what Bill W told me? He said, "I know you'd love to hit her with a baseball bat, I understand...." They KNEW she was a witch. Anyway, that was '75, not '74 as you mentioned. So, we did okay in the sleep department. She did DEMAND we run everyday, however. I had never run a day in my life and I HATED it. But, being the good girl that I was .... BTW, WS, I'd have gagged just cooking cabbage soup, never mind eating it. Our specialty was potato soup. Of course, there was usually only ONE potato. Seven in our household (4 adults and 3 kids). Anyway, back to my point: WG, you said it in a nutshell: those of us who lived through the whole freakin' mess know the answer to that [and all the rest of it]. That's really all that matters, isn't it? WD: Wouldn't you like to fly in my beautiful balloon, weather balloon that is, as in Roswell. Good One, Danny.

Dooj: Just had to comment on your post because I thought it was awesome. Great statements. Great logic. I cannot help but feel that since these awful events spoken of occurred to more than one person, lots of people actually, it is easier for me to believe them, then not to, even though they did not happen to me personally. There were many other things that did happen that I knew weren't from God. Yet, for so many years I ignored the "masses" of people who said TWI was a cult and instead insisted I knew better and that the rest of the world was wrong. Some people say there is no truth, only perception. I could say what I perceive WD to be, but it wouldn't be very nice.

tonto: I never would have admitted this way back when, but Fascinating Womanhood put me to sleep. At least Marabel was funny! I appreciate your time and input, however.

That was most definitely it. Thanks! And, I agree, for what it's worth. Was that the one with wrapping yourself in saran wrap to answer the door? As if ....
-
One more thought for the road: How come Mr. WD never demanded the accuracy from TWI that he does from some of the people here? Seems to me that might have helped him realize how full of it they really could be. Too bad. I can't even believe I am answering you. No, it wasn't the Act of Marriage. It was by a woman with a silly little apron.

No loose change here, just my two cents, WS. When I first got in the ministry (circa 1971) there was a book about how women could be good wives. For the life of me (i.e., "age-related"), I cannot remember the name of it. It was a silly little book about--are you ready for this?--how to build up a man's ego so you can get what you want from him. This book was extremely pushed at fellowship, classes (especially CFS), etc. If anyone remembers the name of it, please put it out there so anyone still interested can read it. I only brought it up to show how far back TWI's mind-set on all this went. And, I don't really care if WD believes me or not.
-
WG, most of us know what WD is up to. It's bloody easy to answer one sentence that isn't questioning what you are doing, but what you think might help you make a point. In all honesty, it does help make a point--that being WD has no idea what being backed into a corner really means, among other things ....

Well, let's suppose some eyewitnesses saw someone get mowed down by a car and killed. These same eyewitnesses go to court, give their testimony, and the driver of the car is found guilty and goes to jail. Their eyewitness accounts are entered into the court record. Some 2,000 years later someone with the initials WD (the real name is being withheld) comes along and says, "Wait. I think that verdict should be overthrown. How do I know it's true?" Does this person get the time of day? Not in my book. Not in today's courts. How could this person possibly even believe what the Bible says, like Jesus was raised from the dead? We don't have any pictures. No transcript either, unless you are taking the word of some disciples .... So, what's to say they weren't lying?

I still like one I heard pretty soon before we left from LCM: If you don't give 15% off the top, don't even bother to pray--God wouldn't spit in your direction. I think that helped me to get the paper bag off my head.

You want to talk about slander John? How's about calling Danny a stone head? You think you know the man? You think he was raised in an environment that looked down on that behavior? You know NOTHING, bro. Besides the Red Thread, there's another thread that runs through God's Word. It's called community. It's called family. Israel started in Egypt as a family. It left Egypt as a nation. God's covenant with Israel was not with individual believers, it was with them as a NATION. However, God's covenant with us through Jesus Christ, is with individuals. We, as individuals, are responsible for what we say and do. We need family to help us keep our eyes on the Word, ultimately on the hope. Ever heard of telling someone they are wrong in front of two or three witnesses? Do you really want to make this about you or about us as a family? By the way, I was raised where the F word was used to teach us the parts of speech. After all, it can be ANYTHING--noun, verb, pronoun, adjective, etc., get the picture? It's not just a "man" thing. I was also raised in a family where my dad thought hitting a woman was a-okay. Not for adultery, not for grabbing some guy's privates, but just because he felt like it. And you know what, it didn't take scripture for me to know he was wrong. I can remember knowing he was wrong when I was merely 4 years old. I'm not trying to change your mind about Danny, just yourself.
