  1. Hmmmm. LOT'S of covered bridges there in southern Indiana (right next to Ohio). You wouldn't believe the things done -- under *cover*! Meebe that was his version of the *lock-box*. In and out. But we'll never know for sure --- will we?? ;)

    Guitar Talk

All kidding aside -- some others and I, were talking about the old Hee Haw show on another forum. I got to looking for clips of it on You Tube, and found this video of Roy Clark. As usual -- he's impeccable with his picking, but I was struck by the beauty of the guitar he was playing. What a GOOD LOOKING/ SOUNDING AXE!!! HERE IT IS.

Chas --- perhaps this *circle of fifths* will help. ;) (or maybe not!!!)

  5. Catholic Heart Attack: A man suffered a serious heart attack and had open heart bypass surgery. He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at a Catholic hospital. As he was recovering, a nun asked him questions regarding how he would like to pay for his treatment. She asked if he had health insurance. He replied, in a raspy voice, "No health insurance." The nun asked if he had money in the bank. He replied, "No money in the bank." The nun asked, "Do you have a relative who could help you?" He said, "I only have a spinster sister, who is a nun." The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God!!" The patient replied, "Then send the bill to my brother in law."

    Southern charm

... and only a Southerner TRULY knows how to *open a can of whoop-@$$*, in a fight!!
  7. Amen!!! (after all -- we were ALL newbies once, with our own sets of issues).
  8. Reminds me of a quote from Mitchner. "How sweet it is to do nothing all day long, and after having done so, to rest."
  9. What the heck is a truck garden??? (I've never heard that term before). Oh --- BTW -- Happy belated!!!
  10. Welcome back. Am curious to hear what the *new subject* is. :)

    Men's Cologne

(Yup -- purty soon, all the pipes will be thawed out up here. It sure is tiresome melting snow, for that Saturday evening bath!)
  12. Hey there Doug!! (Just saw this here). Here's hoping you had a good one! (Lake Superior still has a bunch of ice on it, but we're starting to get the temps you all have had).
  13. I agree with ChattyKathy!!! (Meebe I'm tall, but I still like my feet on the ground!)
  14. We DON'T bash guitars, or the playing there-of, in the guitar thread. I find myself gravitating there more and more these days also, rather than elsewhere on the site here. While I don't mind ripping twi a new one, it kinda like beating a dead horse.

PS --- AND NOW --- what's ticking me off -- is I can't remember where I got it from, and to whom I sold it!! My second Martin, was a D 12-35 (twelve string). I sold it to a lady, who ended up in Chicago. She got married to a guy who had many guitars, and they decided to sell that one (among others). Somehow -- she found out where I was (pre-internet days), and wondered if I wanted to buy it back (for less than I sold it to her for). Me (in my ignorance -- again), said No. Someone give me a *DOPE SLAP*!!!

Oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My first Martin, was a 00-18. Small body, but GREAT SOUND. If I recollect correct -- it was made in (get ready for this) ----->>> 1918. I (in my ignorance), got rid of it because it wasn't a *bluegrass guitar*. This was back in 1970 something-or-other. (sob sob sob!!!) Let me see if I can find a pic, of one similar. The one I had, was a helluva good sounding box. Some lucky person has it today. :(
  18. Shellon --- Yea. My brother is a Captain for Delta Airlines. Back in the early 90's, he made it a point to get time off in August, for the Old Time Fiddle Contest up here. He had problems with his marriage then (all worked out now), but came up here for a week of relaxation back then. It was a treat to have him here (until he made that phone call!!!) Ex70's deserves to be congratulated. Sounds like an award well-earned. Taking first (in competition that means something to you), isn't always the easiest thing in the world. But it's REAL SWEET, when it comes your way!. ;)
  19. Hey Shellon --- My brother was here for that win of mine in 1994. I did a repeat in 1995, and he had the gall to call our parents (from MY phone --- no less!), saying; 'You know what?? I came up here one year, and Dave took 3rd. Next year I came up, and he took 2nd. Then last year he took 1st. I came back this year, and he took 1st again. he didn't get a d@mmmed bit better than the previous year!!! (true story!!!)
  20. Hmmmmmm. Then you did better than I did (3 X 2 = 6). I was only required to play five tunes!!
  21. Hey there ex70's --- CONGRATS!!! :eusa_clap: I remember (still) the first time I took 1st in a fiddle contest (1994). Habitually -- I took 2nd, or 3rd, but never first. Then, the same year, I took first in a Canadian Fiddle contest. In both contests, I managed to outscore the same guy who always played a *bit smoother than I*. WTG. :) :) (dmiller --->> a FIRM BELIEVER that *gun control* = a steady aim!!) ;)
  22. Just the thought of jumping out of a functional aircraft --- scares the living daylights out of me!! That guy is Nucking Futz!!
  23. Lemme say, I jest wish you (woops!! I meant let me say, I just wish you) {Dang speech-writers anyhoo -- they're a dime a dozen here in in DC} And I can't articulate what they write, anyway! If they spoke *oil*, I'd be able to *gush* out my wishes. Look at my left hand. That's where you were. Look at my right hand. That's where you are. Forget the speech writers. Forget my speech. A hand picture is worth a 1,000 words. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hap -- Here's hoping you have /had a really good birthday. Wishing you the best, in the upcoming year. :)
