TRAIL OF TEARS. OKLAHOMA CITY WOW --- Hey there. :) I'm thinking you misunderstood my post. I have NOTHING against Naai. Nor do I deny that a terrible injustice was done to them. I'm wondering if you think that we should somehow *compensate* all those to whom injustices were done in the past?? Personally -- I don't think so. Past injustices are a stain on history, and (looking at it logistically) there's-not-a-helluva-lot-one-can-do-about-it (these days), except for to recognize that it happened, and acknowledge the fact. There's a world of hurt out there -- and it isn't up to us to recognize one hurt over another. Black folks were -------- you know the story; Irish folks were --------- you know the story; Japanese folks were ---- you know the story; Naai folks were ---------- you know the story; Whatcha gonna do?? How does one recompense all the injustices done in the past?? Can't be done (imo). Shouldn't be done either. Admit it happened, and be done with it. Now --- what I AM RAILING/ RANTING against -- is the CONTINUED discrimination. If a purple guy from Mars got *preferential treatment*, I'd say the same thing. What's happening (these days) is a continuation of what happened in the past --- with new players involved, but the same old same old in the name of *political correctness*. Should you care to champion the *poor Naai* and all they have suffered --- I would hope you have *los cojones* to do the same for folks today. Admitting past intolerances is acceptable. Continuing them is not.

The *Native American* monicker --- what a crock!!! I was born here in America -- I'm *native American*. Chances are you were too --- you're *native American*. Sad thing is *native American* (these days) refers to American Indians and not the rest of us, (who by definition of birth) --- deserve the same title --- AND benefits afforded the *others*. *Native Americans/ American indians (hereafter referred to as Naai) are getting the *best* of the deaL, to the detriment of other folks. Not sure what it's like in YOUR states -- but here in Minney-soda, lots of *native American white folk* are being run roughshod over, in the name of *political correctness*. Sorry -- but this issue p!$$es me off big time. Rights/ privilidges that are given to one group are denied to another, and to put it bluntly --- THAT SUCKS. Mom and Pop businesses are being forced out of business by laws that directly influence their customer base. Do these same laws apply to the Naai?? No -- Not so's you'd notice. The Naai seem to get a repeal on their operations whenever it comes to smoking indoors, alcohol, or gambling --- all the *sins* that seem to plague most cities (these days). Recently -- Minnesota passed a law saying no smoking in bars. Gambling is also illegal in bars here. Did that apply to all bars?? No. Indian (woops -- I meant Naai) establishments are exempt. For what it's worth -- I don't gamble nor do I frequent bars --- but when the Naai bars/ casinos/ (etc.) are allowed to have any AND ALL practices going on in their establishments that used to be *enjoyed* by the Mom and Pop places (but no longer because of city ordinances that apply to only a *select* few), that's when the Sh!! really starts to stink. I don't give a ratzz azz who was here first, or second, or third. Folks that are here now are the one's who count. How hard is it to treat all equally???

Wayne Benson is AWESOME on the mandolin. World class picker. IIIrd Tyme Out ----- How Great Thou Art And --- I remember when Russell Moore (guitar)/ Ray Deaton (bass)/ and Scott Vestal (banjo), original members of III Tyme Out all used to pick for Doyle Lawson as the Quicksilver band. They did a fine job of JulieAnne (above), and as well.:)

Joe -- you made the right choice. Absolutely. Mary and I never had kids. Our *family* happened to be our individual hobbies. She had her weaving, crocheting, embroidery, knitting, spinning, tatting lace, etc., and I had my (multitude of) stringed instruments. And we went WOW. Our hobbies didn't suffer as a family of REAL people would have. You chose wisely. :)

Blue Highway is AWESOME! Couldn't find a link to Grandpa's Mandolin, but here they are at the .Speaking of mandolins -- mine was made in 1917. It's a Gibson F-2 with the (unique) Handel tuners on it. It's 8 years older than my Dad is, and in better working condition than he is. I would give the world to have it the other way around.

Hey there Joe --- I shouldn't be surprised about the grand-kid aspect, but --- :D :D :D :D :D :D :D I remember Cody and Jody when they were knee high to a grasshopper! Then there was that time you played a tape of you all picking *Peaceful Easy Feeling* for me (last time I was at your place), with the extra verse or two that I wrote for it. Those were the days. I didn't remember that Mike was in Bedford. Like I said -- his departure was both sudden and quite abrupt, and caused quite a stir. I do remember (at least) one of the ladies in the Bloomington twig saying that --- that she would marry him in a heartbeat -- to keep him in *fellowship* with twi. Departure from twi wasn't really an acceptable thing -- back in those days. I guess Mike had a *head's up* on the rest of us -- not sure. I do know -- that all of us (myself included), thought the *problem* was with him -- and not twi. Our wake-up call came later than his did. Sadly.

Yup -- we are all entitled to our own opinions. If I didn't make that clear in my post -- I apologize. :)

It's ironic Jim -- that the song I'm listening to right now on the http://www.worldwidebluegrass.com station is called *You Gotta Do What You Gotta Do* by the Bluegrass Addiction group. Perhaps you might give a listen to that song, and THEN make a comment. :) As someone who has a sister who is of the lesbian persuasion, AND (if I may add), a *type A* personality (i.e. --- read *in your face* attitude) all the time about things like this: I will have no problem ordering the book, reading it, and sharing what I might glean from it. I don't give a ratzz you-know-what if there are *docvic-ism's* in it's intro (though I suspect there will be few -- given the small amount I've read here so far). There are only so many words to describe (and promote) a person's work, and if the choice of words offends you, based on a past experience; I'll agree with Eyes -- save your money. With a closed mind like that --- You won't get anything from the book. If she put 25 pages of bibliography at the end of it -- that's more than docvic ever did. She said she spent 3 years on it -- and I'm guessing without a *research staff*. Ya know -- I have to go this route --- sorry, but it begs the question: Where were you in your book *critiques* earlier when two other books were announced here at GSC? Stephen Spencer was promoting a book by Paddy Heron called The Nephilim and the Pyramid of the Apocalypse; and then later one by himself entitled ----- The Genesis Pursuit (The Lost History Of Jesus Christ) Perhaps you missed those posts, and the ensuing discussion that revolved around Stephen's recommendations of both of those books as something worth *considering*. And --- *worth considering* was all that was mentioned. Same as in this case. Like the song says that I was listening to -- You do what ya gotta do. If you can't do that -- that's cool (I guess). Waiting to read your scholastic endeavour (should it ever happen), and I'll give it the same read as I will this one.

Hey there jeast. Mike split the Bloomington area to go and marry a Mormon gal out east (Pennsylvania, if I recollect correct), but I'm not 100% sure about the location. I don't remember the other two names, so I can't help you there. These 35 years later -- I'm kinda *fuzzy* on some of the names -- but I do remember Mike and his *sudden* departure from our area back then. He was (to my knowledge) never heard from again by those of us who used to comprise his fellowship. David

What a crock! (GW that is -- and I'll leave it to you all to figure out which GW I'm speaking of!)

Hey there Mo. An *appropriate* analogy. :) It's been a long road from the *signing of the green* (card), to where we are now, eh?? I'd rather wear the green than sign it anyday. In honor of *driving out the snakes*, here's a Celtic melody with words attached. BE THOU MY VISION (Not the Mormon Tabernacle Choir -- but purty good none-the-less!) ;)

Two Irishmen, Patrick Murphy and Shawn O'Brian grew up together and were lifelong friends. But alas, Patrick developed cancer, and was dying. While on his deathbed, Patrick called to his buddy, Shawn, "O'Brian, come 'ere. I 'ave a request for ye." Shawn walked to his friend's bedside and kneels. "Shawny ole boy, we've been friends all our lives, and now I'm leaving 'ere. I 'ave one last request for ye to do." O'Brian burst into tears, "Anything Patrick, anything ye wish. It's done." "Well, under me bed is a box containing a bottle of the finest whiskey in all of Ireland. Bottled the year I was born it was. After I die, and they plant me in the ground, I want you to pour that fine whiskey over me grave so it might soak into me bones and I'll be able to enjoy it for all eternity." O'Brian was overcome by the beauty and in the true Irish spirit of his friend's request, he asked, "Aye, tis a fine thing you ask of me, and I will pour the whiskey. But, might I strain it through me kidneys first?" ;)

Whenever I heard docvic talk about the way corps -- it was promoted as a learning "opportunity", students *sitting at the feet of the teacher* kinda thing. He never said one damn word about *toughening up*. As usual --- Oldies has perspectives so snafu'd, it only reflects his skewed viewpoint. And what-do-ya-know?!?!? Mike is paying attention to something VERBAL for a change!!?? :o NOT passed on from the ph***tard pharmer's phamous written revvy-lashuns???? Someone call Ripley's "Believe It Or Not".
