This topic about *the law of believing* has been discussed (many times) here before. I've said it before -- I'll say it again ---- I believe in God's ability to DO, according to what He has promised. I do NOT believe in *my believing trumps God's wishes*, and that I can *believe for* anything outside of His wishes. I've also mentioned that in the past -- I used to work for a company run by W. Clement Stone. He was good buddies with Og Mandigo, Napolean Hill, and others who promoted the *THINK AND GROW RICH* concept. Docvic fit right in there with that crew --- cause that other outfit taught the *law of believing* too. And guess what --- it was all about $$$$$$$$$$$. Go figure, eh??

David, is this really what you meant to say? (bold added by me) That sounds way too much like what those in the Way would say; it doesn't sound like your usual reasonable self. Linda --- No it wasn't. Thank you for pointing out the OBVIOUS that I should have seen before I hit the *enter* button. Sometimes I type faster than I think, and it's kinda like I talk at times. My Tangue gets all toungled up in my eye teeth --- and I can't see what I'm saying!! No --I didn't mean that in that way at all. I guess what I DID mean to convey was that he should convince her to look at other options. (As we all know ---) *other* options in twi are about as welcome as a Ferrari salesman at a Yugo convention. I'm a BIG fan of thinking for one's self, and no -- I wouldn't suggest (even though I did, inadvertently) that one could or should CONTROL another. He has his head screwed on straight (my imo), and she, given her affiliation to twi -- does not. I guess my main point was not about control -- but rather deliverance/ guidance. For her. Again -- thank you for pointing out my agregious error and *mis-speak*. Too bad you couldn't have corrected all docvic's words --- when you were on the Way magazine! Dunno if the world would be a better place -- but I suspect so! ;) -

I was a Jesus Freak back in the early 1970's. I had three very close friends. Mike and Jane Moody (both now deceased), and Mary (to whom I was later married to for 10 years) The four of us were a part of a group called "The Lighthouse". It was a group of like-minded Bible-believing folks that met on Friday nights -- and besides the fellowship that evening -- people would tell about OTHER fellowships they had run across for those of us there to check out if we wanted to. Nother words -- the Lighthouse fellowship was a *clearinghouse* for those who attended, to find other fellowships that complemented the one we all were in, with the EXPRESS idea that additiional fellowship (outside of the Lighthouse) could be found in other areas also. 1974 --- I went to Italy as a *missiionary* with the OM group. (OM --- stands for Operation Mobilization -- George Verwer was their leader). When I left US soil --- Mary, Mike, and Jane were still affliated with the Lighhouse. When I returned 3 or 4 months later --- they were ALL involved with twi! I won't say that the friendship that we had previously was gone entirely, but I will say it was strained, to say the least, until I took pfaL, like they all had. Things were then *rosy*, and returned to *normal* for the 4 of us. Fast forward 10 or so years to 1987 or so ---- Mike and Jane -- and Mary and I started seeing the DUPLICITY of twi. Mike and Jane saw it first. They warned us early on about what was going on. They had contacts higher up than Mary and I did, and they knew that some serious $h!t was being hidden by twi in the "not for public view" section of their ministry. Brushstroke. Do yourself a favor. Either convert this gal to YOUR way of thinking (not likely); or find someone else. I followed my friends into the twi pit, and was there for 10 years. Luckily --- we all got out at the same time. Please -- don't do what I did, those many years ago. -
Shucks --- Threads get derailed here all the time!! Wouldn't be GSC if they weren't!

Brushstroke --- hey there. :) I knew docvic too, but from a distance. And I'm not a female, so that enters into the equation as well. Docvic was a drunk and skirt-chaser. Sorry --- but bluntly --- there it is. He (docvic) was a charismatic leader, and conned a lot of folks (myself included). I'm one of the one's (here) who feel he taught some things right, and some things wrong. How well did her mother know him?? Was she in twi 1?? From what you said she must've been. If (and that's a big IF) your girlfriend REALLY listens to her mother; it's YOU that is going to be required to adhere to THEIR beliefs, and not the other way around. Just a head's up for you here. Twi hasn't changed, over all these years. They don't join you -- you join them. -
Well --- he certainly deserves accolades, even if the category is wrong. I remember the first time he appeared on stage with an electric guitar. He was boo'd off stage as a traitor, to all he'd ever done in the past.

Anyone who can take the time/ energy/ etc., to write a book --- gets Kudos from me, whether I either agree or disagree with the topic. If they (the author) did the *legwork* for the book -- I won't *DISS* it, by presuming to know about the subject already, and dismissing it as relevant/ or irrelevant, without reading what they may have to say. I would suppose that those who are so quick to criticize --- feel like they know it all already -- without extra input. So --- let's ban (new) books altogether, eh? May as well -- since we know it all already. <_<

put the img brackets in front of and after the url of your photo. Like this ---- [img=www.mydodgetruck, etc.,etc.,etc.jpg] . Hope that helps. :) PS -- I have a 1987 4 X 4 Dakota with (only) 85,000 miles on the engine; and a new tranny (2 years old). I'm looking to put BIG tires on it, and raising it up by a good 3 to 5 inches. Somethings just make sense!! ;)

Link to the pic??? ;)

Rock and Roll?? Nonesense!!!! Bob Zimmerman was first and foremost a FOLK - singer. Granted --- he was a songwriter with few (if any) peers in his time; But "Rock and Roll has finally broken through"??? Not in my book -- if Bobby Zimmerman is in the mix.

From Gillian Welch --- "I will know my Saviour, "BY THE MARKS, WHERE THE NAILS HAVE BEEN". Very cool song. Transcends twi teaching and reaches into the upper stratosphere. Both musically, vocally, and as well as *content oriented*. Pure harmonies. Enjoy. :)

Hey there Pond. :) You don't know jeast (perhaps) --- but I do. He was there when I got involved with twi back in the 1970's. He and his wife, and me and my ex, and another couple --- (Mike and Jane -- both now deceased), spent a LOT of time hashing over verses. Mike D. and Bill M. were two of the main twi *influences* that impacted us. For what it is worth --- jeast needs NO defense from me, as he is competant enough to stand up, and answer for himself. BUT --- you need to realize he's been around the block a time or two. Nother words --- he's been on the same path you and I were on. Meebe you don't think this forum is *brain surgery*. Cool ---- I agree that it isn't, BUT ----- don't go criticizing another poster (jeast, me, or anyone else) because they (or me, or anyone else), says something that you find objectionable. Personally -- I think we need more *sensitive folks* here. Lots of posts seem to evince the *hard-assed* attitude. Where is the healing in that, eh?? And one last comment -- I thought his posts were TOTALLY in *sync* with the topic I posted here. (P.S. --- Pond --- learn *how to do the quote thing*. It will make your posts more credible, and it's easy to do.) :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The *LAW* of *believing* is from the pit of Hell. And docvic promoted it to his advantage, and NO ONE else's.

Oh --- Here's THE LINK to elderly.com --- where this is being sold. Lotsa more pics of it there.
-
Here's a pic of it ---- Lloyd Loar was the *Stadivarius* of mandolin makers. One of his mandolins is (now) on the market for 1 million dollars.
-
Although this thread is mostly about guitars --- it encompasses much more. Here is a story about a true *find* -- though it's about a mandolin. For those who care about old instruments --- CLICK HERE! To say I'm jealous --- would be the understatement of the year.

Hey there Roy. :) Thanks for sharing this here. I heard these facts on talk radio a week or so ago. Makes sense to me. Saving some pennies here and there quickly translates into $$$.

Hey everybody -- thanks for the responses. :) Wing --- Absolutely! The lingo and (coupled with) the teachings we all sat through while in twi seem to return to haunt us time and again (uninvited) like Oak mentioned. I've gotten to the point where I *cringe* less than I used to when I hear certain terms (when I do choose to go -- which isn't often), and hearing someone end a prayer with "In the name of Jesus" (instead of Jesus Christ, or Christ Jesus), doesn't bother me at all these days. Hey there Ham -- I hear that. I've been lucky enough to run across a few where that wasn't the case. Your emphasis on the words MOST and REAL (sadly) apply to a lot of outfits. I hung out with some Baptist folks for a while (3 or 4 ex-twi folks went to that church), and they (the Baptists) were very accomodating to me and my beliefs. I went to their *functions* more than I did the church service. I was always welcome and we talked about everything from soup to hay and had a good time doing it. Meebe I was welcome because I always brought the banjo, fiddle, and mandolin with me, not sure. ;) The pastor and I had a few talks, and he was able to understand where I was coming from and (now that I think about it), that's where I started *warming up* to the idea that other folks might not be so *out to lunch* as docvic portrayed. Whatever the reason was that they (the Lutherans) held this event, is unknown to me. Perhaps they were looking to *up* their membership, but I suspect not. That's just a gut feeling (First thought -- perhaps!?) I have about the evening, since they did no prosyletizing (sp??), nor did they push the Gospel on anyone, and it was more about having fun than anything else. They plan on doing this once a month (once the school session starts again), and from what I was told -- the college students in that congregation expressed a wish to do something for the developementally-disabled folks here in town. If that is/ was their main intention -- they'll get a good CRITIQUE from me. One more nail driven into the twi *elitism* coffin.

Tonight --- one of the clients at the group home I work at wanted to go to a church function. He's 53 and though a (non-participating) member of a different church -- he decided he wanted to go. The inviting church was Lutheran, and looking to reach out to those with mental disabilities. JJ ( that's his name), decided that he wanted to go, despite the fact that a bible skit would be performed. He was more interested in the dinner provided and the Karaoke after. He and I saw a bunch of developementally-disabled folks we knew. Had a good time. :) While the singing (Karaoke) was going on -- the Pastor of the church *buttonholed* me. He was curious if JJ wanted to come (or if he was interested in) their Sunday service. I told him to ask JJ -- He is competent to answer on his own with NO input from me. Then the Pastor asked if we (as staff) had to bring him to church, or could they provide a ride? I told him that Sunday and Monday were my weekend (and has been for 6 years) -- so I wasn't sure about the schedule on Sundays, since I didn't work then. Then I decided to lay it out on the line for him ---(since he asked) --- I told him (pointblank) that any and all of our staff would be willing to bring JJ there --- BUT: I told him the Director of our house considers herself a Wiccan Witch. (I saw him mentally go *OUCH*)! I told him that the 2nd in *command* there is an open homosexual *married* to another man. (I saw him mentally go *OUCH* -- again)! Then I told him I moved to town 30 years ago as a missiionary for a cult. : That really set him off -- since I was there and he could ask any and all questions that came to his mind. He asked a lot of questions. I answered as best as possible. I told him I still had some *WAY BRAIN* left in me --- but that I was working on eradicating it totally (as much as possible) from my thinking. I told him that whenever I walk into a church -- I CRITIQUE it (sorry -- that trait hasn't left me yet) and then he said --- "Well maybe you might like to try us out, and NOT criticize." I had to correct him (with his wife and others looking on), by replying ---- "I didn't say CRITICIZE, I said CRITIQUE!" He looked a mite shamefaced for misunderstanding what I said, but was gracious enough to admit he had heard me wrong. Looking at me he said -- "I hope if you do come back, you'll give us a good critique". I was impressed. :) I would love to walk into a church witn no pre-conceived notions, and merely be a part of the fellowship. Sadly --- (thank you docvic and twi) :( --- that might happen in the future, but it ain't happening now. Y'all did a number on my head. But at least now I can critique, rather than criticize. It's called healing -- No thanks to you. Seeing the love and compassion given by these (Lutheran) folks for those who are developementally-disabled with no question of asking for a *ticket price* to provide them with an evening of entertainment, food, and fun, and giving them a chance to get out of their group homes to do do something *different* is a concept twi never thought of. As Jerrry Garcia said ---- "What a long strange trip it's been."

Your banjo is a *hybrid* from FQMS??? Bill Sullivan was the salt of the earth, when it came to customer service. Sadly -- he passed away (pre-maturely) this last year. But maybe you knew that already. I've had several Martins --- 000-18/ D-12-35/ and (currently) a D-35. The D-35 I have now was made in 1968 -- last year for legally allowed Brazillian Rosewood. It's a BOOMER. Has a sound and tone that just won't quit. Good for flatpicking and rhythm as well. Short stow-ry here. I got that Martin in Nashville Indiana back in 1976 (thereabouts). Bought it for 550 (I think) bucks. Took it over to Elletsville to compare it to another Martin. The Martin I put it up against was a pre-war D-18. Mine was sounding just as good. :) The guy who owned the Martin D-18 told me that if I didn't buy the one I brought there; he would --- and in a heartbeat! Another aspect to this stow-ry --- There was a fella there with a D-41 Martin (brand new). Sounded like @#$%^@! He almost took his D-41 back to return it to the dealer, since it didn't sound as good as either of our other two guitars. Lucky for him -- he hung onto it -- and in a few short months -- his out shone ours by far. Getting an (acoustic) instrument from that time period was *chancy* at best --- but sometimes one hit the jackpot. :)
-
Yea -- you can't see the peghead there -- but you're right, Doc usually picks a Gallagher. I had a chance to play one once, and I found it too *beefy* for my tastes as well. The acoustics were superb -- but the neck was a mite too wide and thick for my liking. The Martin I have has a thin neck, so it's (fairly) comfortable for me to pick on. I was lucky enough to get a Gibson mandolin (F-Style) that has a thin neck as well. I swapped out the old bow-tie neck on the banjo for a hearts and flowers neck that's smooth as butter. I guess fiddle picking spoiled me when it comes to thinner necks! I've had a couple of Gibson guitars (acoustic) in the past that played really decently, but they didn't have half the tone/ volume my Martin (or a Gallagher) has. I've never gone the *electric* route , but have had a chance to play on some ---- and the one thing I DO like about them is their *playability*. But not enough to convince me to *buy electric*. ;)
-
AND THEN THERE'S THIS. His picking is amazing -- even more so since he is blind.

Shucks --- doesn't anyone else remember the RECEIVE, RETAIN, RELEASE thing from pfal??? The earth receives energy (your guess is as good as mine as to from where ---) The earth retains energy (consider it a *bank account* of sorts) -- and: The earth needs to RELEASE energy so it doesn't blow up, or become a Dead Sea. Personally -- in honor of Earth Hour -- I turned on every light bulb I have in the house here. Without any release of energy -- some serious-$h!t-is-gonna-happen-that-won't be-purty!! And Momma (earth) will heave a sigh of relief. Personally -- I think that any bozo that tends to agree with and/ or comply with this *blackout* mandate to enhance "global salvation" (or whatever it is being called) needs to (in the words of docvic) -- get CHECKUP from the NECKUP!
