    Short jokes

Einstein climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God. Looking up, he asks the Lord... "God, what does a million years mean to you?" The Lord replies, "A minute." "Einstein asks, "And what does a million dollars mean to you?" The Lord replies, "A penny." Einstein asks, "Can I have a penny?" The Lord replies, "In a minute."

    Quiet Seas

A fella I know on another board (living in the United Kingdom), posted this, in response to what I've said here. Looks like the REAL deal is happening over *across the pond*! ;) :)
  8. Canadian ham on a pizza without pineapple would be akin to: Lewis without Clark; Batman without Robin; Orville without Wilbur; Bonnie without Clyde; Oscar without Lonzo; Flatt without Scruggs; peanut butter without jelly.
  9. Happy birthday, Raf. :)

    The Rules

If new rules are in the works, great. I wish (for one) that it doesn't have to be that way, but given the backhanded way some here are attacking, name calling, and generally denigrating another's testimony (while claiming they've done *nothing wrong by the rules*), perhaps it's time.
  11. Personally, I find it kind of disturbing that the threat of jail time is the only thing preventing you from going on a murderous rampage. While I don't think you really meant what you said, I have to tell you that it's a sociopathic statement. I was being facetious. Glad you picked up on that. Murdering people for inconveniencing you is not right.Who said anything about murdering?? I certainly didn't. You're leaping to (mistaken) conclusions here. Paying taxes is not a requirements to being a U.S. citizen. While there are taxes required for many things, you don't have to pay taxes to be able to walk down a sidewalk or be able to ride a bike down the street. If you did, children everywhere would be beaten up by the cops on a daily basis. Where did I EVER SAY, you have to pay taxes to be a citizen?? Eh? As others have pointed out, the fees for driving a car are because 1) the wear and tear on the roads, 2) the fact that the automobile is the deadliest weapon in the U.S. that kills more Americans every month than died in 9/11, 3) it produces a lot of pollution and has to be maintained to minimize it. There is good reason for cars to have so many laws and regulations. The automobile is a means of transportation. Additionally, I have friends who are good, law abiding bike riders. They get harassed all the time, being run into/run over is a way of life, and being cussed and threatened even while riding individually and staying all the way to the right is normal. Cyclists have it really rough, and I think more bike paths should be built. When I was living in California, my wife and I would go walking on the paths all the time and it was great to be away from the streets. Had we stayed longer, I probably would have picked up a bike to ride to work instead of driving. Riding a bike seems like a great way to travel short distances, stay in shape, and save money. I'm not in favor of blocking streets, especially when it limits the possibility of ambulances and fire trucks getting through. I don't like being inconvenienced as a driver, but I have more problems with people driving cars while using a cellphone, putting on makeup, reading a book, using a laptop, being too old and impaired, and many other things than I do with cyclists. For what it is worth --- I ride a bicycle myself. 18 speed Huffy Mountain Bike. Have ridden since I was a kid, and in college it was my only means of transportation. I'm WELL AWARE of inconsiderate drivers, and those roads in southern Indiana were mighty narrow, and even with the bike paths that were in place --- one had to be on the lookout. I never have (nor has anyone else to my knowledge) been cussed out, harassed, or threatened if they were all the way to the right, and OBEYING THE RULES OF THE ROAD. The critical mass riders are not *just* out for a bike ride. They are out to make a statement, flaunting their *I've got rights* attitude out in traffic, where they could cause a serious accident by their actions. To ride in the manner they choose to (spread out all over the road), let them get a parade permit and have at it. That at least would be legal, safe, and harmless.
  12. It'll be good to meet you. :) WhiteDove --- Vickles can explain. ;)
  13. Hinkley Minnesota, at the Grand Casino. Date to be announced. The main attraction will be the buffet they offer there, but ex-twi/ post twi conversation will certainly be encouraged. Sorry -- manifestations, and singing from the blue book not allowed. It won't be comfy and cozy like the Texas BBQ, but it'll be a time to talk and have fun. If interested, contact (via PM) either Vickles or myself, or just keep up with this thread, Preliminary thoughts on this are it will be a Saturday, early afternoon until ?????? Late August, or early to mid September seem to be the best dates for now. Nothing is decided as of yet. It's just an idea in an egg, looking to hatch. There was one (the first) Minnesota get together several years ago. There were 4 of us there then. It'd be nice to meet more this time. :)
  14. From the critical mass bike rider site. If I could avoid jail time for running them over, my choices would MUCH simpler' and then that cop wouldn't have to do what he did. Like I said --- anarchists on two wheels, and they pi$$ me off Civil disobedience?? No. This is akin to shouting Fire, in a crowded theater. They do NOT pay for a license to drive, insurance (required for a motor vehicle), registration fees, or tabs for a license plate. They have NO right to claim *rights* (such as they do), merely because they are *traffic*.
  15. Critical Mass Bike riders are a distinct THREAT to the road, and to the safety of drivers. I'm NOT saying that cop was in the right, but he probably had (previous) provocation. I've come across CM bike riders here, honked at them to move, they gave me the finger, so I pulled around them, got in front, and then hit the brakes. Hard. Ya shoulda heard the cussing!! Bikers have rights. No doubt about it. But these bozos are *anarchists on two wheels*. I'm more than willing to be considerate to a bicyclist traveling on the road, but I'll be dammed if I let a group of them spread out over two lanes make me slow down to 10 MPH, in a 30 MPH speed zone on a busy road. I'm on the side of that cop in the video. I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut that he had a reason to do that.

    Quiet Seas

It was a purty neat sight!!! Had one of the clients at the group home out for a walk on the Lake Walk here in town yesterday afternoon, and saw all this happening out on Lake Superior. The masts on that first ship were so tall, they almost didn't fit under the aerial lift bridge we have here as the (main) entrance to the Duluth harbor. Here's a pic of the bridge at night. The masts of the tall ships were taller than the freighter you see in the foreground in this next pic. The center span of the bridge raises, and the tall ships came entering from the other side of that center span (opposite from where you see the freighter here).

    Song of the moment

Well shucks!! Here's how I know this song! (But it isn't original). Fox On the run Here's the original version by Manfred Mann, who recorded it first. That organ (and *funky* beat) does sound kinda good!! Manfred Mann
  21. Here's a song --- that's kinda appropriate to this thread ----- >>> Angel Band ;)
  22. OK -- I thought I was done with this thread, but I've got an *unscratched itch* here that needs to be addressed. The furthest thing from my mind was asking *Are you an Angel?* when help arrived on the road. They were there, I needed help, and they offered it, and I wasn't about to ask for their I.D. The fact that they disappeared so COMPLETELY in a matter of 2 seconds, did get me to wondering. But I waited to think about it until I got *home*. Still had a snow covered road to deal with. The more I thought about it afterwards, I realized there was NO way they could've disappeared that fast. I could see up the road behind me for 100 yards easily, and there was zip, nada, nothing, zilch, where 2 seconds earlier there had been 3 guys pushing me out of the snow drift, that they would have had to slog through to get to their vehicle (which I didn't see either). Now --- as pertains to experience #2 --- There was NEVER a need to ask for ID there. It was purty dag gum obvious where it came from. It's not every day I see the name of a friend of mine, in HUGE letters hanging out over my back yard, especially if I just prayed for help. So --- now to get to my *unscratched itch*, and it involves docvic and his teachings about angels. IF I RECOLLECT CORRECT (someone correct me if I am wrong): we were taught that angels were *protecting spirits* UNTIL WE WERE BORN AGAIN. After that ---- (sigh!) we only had the *Christ in Us*, and the Angel band left en masse. No *protection* whatsoever provided by the Father, like He's done for folks throughout the ages for His believers. Good ole docvic preached the law of believing more than he did the Gospel of Christ. But -- I'm not shedding *new light here*. Anyone with half a brain can see the inconsistencies. I hung onto that angel teaching for years that docvic spewed. He messed up. Plain and simple --- he messed up BIG TIME on this one. I (personally) think he forgot to mention that Jesus Christ was/is in charge. As second in command ( A Joseph to Pharaoh thing), He's in command of the *troops*. Why would they be *decommissioned* once some one believes?? Makes ZERO sense to me. So --- as a result --- I have NO problem listening to an angel story. Docvic and his fabulous fairy tale train can ride the rails, and (hopefully) get de-railed. His self serving ego allowed him to tell US what was, and what wasn't. And (I for one), bought into that lie, just like many others he told. So if I hear an *angel story* these days, I don't listen with skepticism. I was taught a negative concept about angels, (once upon a time), but see if I believe that fairy tale (these days). :)

    Dad - bad news

Prayers and condolences from myself also. Sorry for your loss. Try to remember the good times. I know it's not a lot in times like these, but it's the best I can offer.
  24. The Short Film Winner at Cannes. VERY good!! Enjoy. :) Historia De Un Letrero
  25. Hey there Another Dan --- Don't you be kicking yourself, eh?? :) Life goes on, we live and learn, take lumps sometimes, and; water flows under the bridge to never return, and stuff happens. Like the water under the bridge, we all started *upstream*, and hit a few *rough spots* in our journey's. Make the most of where you are *flowing* now. :)
