The most poignant lyrics, coupled with the most compelling tune I have ever heard is: "Hard Times" -- by Stephen Foster (7/4/1826 - 1/13/1864). He died a broke, destitute man at age 38 of tuberculocous, but before he left -- he gave us Camptown Races, Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair, Oh! Susanna, Old Folks at Home, My Old Kentucky Home, and Hard Times. This has always been, and will always be, my favorite poem put to music.

Ala -- he he he! :D--> :D--> "The Scotsman" The Scotsman clad in kilt, left the bar one evening fair. And one could tell by how he walked, he'd drunk more than his share. He stumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet, He lay down beside the road, where he began to sleep. About that time two young, and lovely ladies happened by. One said to the other with a twinkle in her eye, "See yon sleeping Scotsman, so strong and handsome built? I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt!" They tiptoed to the Scotsman just as quiet as could be. Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see, And there behold for them to view, beneath his Scottish skirt, Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth. They marveled for a moment, then one said "We must be gone". Let's leave a present, for our friend, before we move along. As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon, tied into a bow. Around the bonny *star* the Scot's kilt did lift and show. The Scotsman woke to Nature's call, and stumbled toward the trees. He lifts his kilt, and in surprise, gawks at what he sees. In a startled voice he says, to what's before his eyes, "Ah Lad - I don't know where ya been, but I see ya won first prize." Guess this is NOT something for 7th graders (now that I think about it).

Telescope would be a good idea -- BUT --- Then eveyone would have to come back to *class* at night, to use it properly. Would you ask those kids to go back to school at night, to use it? And given teacher's salaries (these days), they would have to *volunteer* to come back after hours, without pay. Also - only one student at a time can use the microscope, whereas the entire class can enjoy the vcr, or dvd all at once. :)-->

You forgot to add: "I am a man, therefore I do not ask directions, even when I am hopelessly lost -- being convinced in my mind I can find the way, without help from any other person." Not guilty: I always ask directions. And any man worth his salt should too, since it gets you there faster, even though you have to ask. Proves we're human too, which is already known by the female half, even though we try to hide it. :D--> . . .

All this -- and the guy isn't even *installed* yet! :D--> Let's give him a chance, eh? ;)-->

Ditto on the DVD and VCR.

oh -- and the sport of water-skiing was invented in Minnesota as well, on July 2, 1922. It was done by RALPH SAMUELSON on Lake Pepin, in Lake City Mn.

Minnesota (the land of 10,000 lakes) actually has closer to 15,000 lakes -- with 11,842 of them being 10 acres or larger in size.

Castration is not the answer. The electric chair is. I honestly don't know of any other way of dealing with someone who says they will do it again, with even more horrific results.

"spiritual gypsy gene" he he he! :D--> I miss the moving around too (well - only just a little bit), but the older I get, the easier it is to *kick back* in my chair, in my house, with my *stuff*, with old memories, and feeling good about them. ahhhhh -- the *disadvantages* of getting old!

Keyword = "robust". :(--> For sure we need to, cause the ACLU never will.

I don't think that it was at pfal 77, but it might have been at Advanced Class 79, or even Sound Out 84 that I heard docvic address the *situation* of folks leaving the ministry. He said (to the best of my memory): Where are you going to go? What are you going to do? What can the world offer you? Imo -- he set the stage for the *entrapment* that kept so many people in for so long. He equated twi with God and the Word, and if you left twi you were turning your back on God. Not being privy to all that really went on in twi2, and twi3 -- I'm seeing that all that has been said here (on this thread) has it's roots, and foundations from that statement from long ago, and has been milked to the max. :(--> If you believe twi is God's *gift to man*, no -- you can't leave. You would be turning your back on God. But -- if you see the inconsistencies, the deceit, the manipulation, the lies and the back-stabbing -- you can leave with a clear conscience. There is a big, bright, wonderful world to be enjoyed out here -- just as God intended it to be. :)--> Come and dine, the Master calleth, come and dine. :)--> David

Groucho -- I was going to mention that too, but thought it was just something I had heard in the branch, back in Indiana. Thanks for validating it. :)-->

Man, Ain't THAT the TRUTH!?! :)--> -
That's really a loaded question! I wouldn't even know where to start.

Are you sure that *making weird noises* is all that is wrong with it? :D-->

Linda -- thanks. But not the same Millers. :)--> When my paternal great-grandad came from Germany, his name was Mueller. He changed it to Miller sometime after arriving in America. He didn't have that many kids, and they all stayed in southern Illinois, where he had chosen to move to. The "roving minstrel tendencies" (am hoping that is a good thing) came from the maternal side of the family. Their name was McEwen and they emigrated from Scotland. I have a fiddle made by one of my ancestors. He made it for himself and carried it with him in his travels throughout the "west" playing for who knows how many square dances, get togethers, etc. The original case is here with it too, and it looks like a little wooden coffin. I don't use the case (it is too cumbersome), but the fiddle still plays as sweet as ever, even today. :)--> Now if it were McEwens in the "king and queen funeral tradition" section instead of Miller, ya might be on to something. :D-->

The only problem with the North Star is -- ya gotta look North to see it.

Or it just could have been the splinters, heh heh. Mr H. -- Good point, should we expect any *splinter groups* coming from THAT DIRECTION?!?!?!? :D--> :D--> :D-->

Nice post Pirate, thanks! :)--> And as pertains to the quote above, I've also heard that he mandated that no man could ever counsel a woman, or vice versa -- but those with problems and seeking help were always counseled by a person of the same sex. I don't know that for a fact, but it follows that he would expect his *team's* propriety to follow his example.

What's an *eternal reward*? --> A *better shade tree* in Paradise? A better grade of gold for your street? A closer *mansion* to the *Big House*? or -- might it be Crowns, like Life, Glory, and Righteousness?? And if it is Jesus who gives them -- who on earth (no pun intended) is qualified to say who will or will not receive them, because of what they do or do not do as regards to a certain cult they may have been associated with?

And as far as Billy Graham goes -- I have nothing but respect for him. He has done much to further the *kingdom of Christ*. I don't agree with all of his doctrine, but the veracity of his words and purity of his life speaks volumes.
