    A Thread For Quitters

Got off work tonight, came home and walked in the house and immediately caught a whiff and thought "What the h*** is that smell???" Then I realized it was the residual remains from smoking, and that's probably what my clothes smell like too. Uggh. Nasal capacities must be returning to normal, and coffee sure tastes better too. Amazing what difference just a few hours make. Had a staff meeting at Noumenon house tonight, and luckily -- I had paperwork to do and meds to pass after it was over -- so I had an excuse for not joining the others on the back deck for our customary *after-meeting* smoke/gab-fest. Looking forward to day 2. :)--> David

Well -- here goes nuthin. It's 12:35 AM, my time - am getting ready to hit the sack- and am flushing my remaining 8 smokes down the toilet. Wait a minute -- make that 7. I'm gonna have one last one, while I watch the others disappear. :D--> Good luck to you too, Raf. David
  3. Ha! I had many questions in the beginning -- and I was told to take the class, and all questions would be answered there. Later on -- when I had further questions -- I was told to take *XYZ* seminar, and those seminars would answer my questions. Seems like no one on the field knew any answers. Every question I had was relegated back to hdqtrs, so as to get the official *party doctrine*, and no "screw ups" by those poor souls out there in the real world -- dealing with the likes of us. :D--> David
  4. Eph 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God": Ok -- I admit I don't know. Why? --> David
  5. Yes they did, and I did not mean to suggest that they were ignored. However, what I did mean to suggest is that your average person doesn't hitch hike to the border carrying items like these. I'm of the opinion that the border patrol was being fair with him (according to the law), but given the circumstances (of which I know nothing, except from the article Garth provided) -- I think they should have *back-tracked* him into Canada, instead of trying to find out if he broke any laws by trying to re-enter the US. I'm all for treating folks fairly -- but sometimes 2 + 2 needs to be added up, and dealt with accordingly. David
  6. How much did you have with you? :D--> I went to Thunder Bay for a fiddle contest once, and had a box of wine with me, and Canadian border crossing folks actually weighed the box to see how much was in there, since they were sure I was bringing in more than was legal - without paying *duty*. --> They did have a sense of humor about it though. They suggested that if I did not want to pay the duty on it, I could leave the box with them, and they would gladly return it to me on my return trip -- although they couldn't guarantee that it would weigh the same when I came back to claim it. :D--> David
  7. Ya gotta luv it. --> guns, knives, lighters, and even knitting needles and scissors are being cracked down upon -- but a chain saw, brass knucks, and a home made sword don't mean a thing.
  8. Lessee if I remember my corps training right .... take careful aim ........ exhale slowly ........... squeeze trigger gently .. D*mn!! I forgot to take off the safety!

I would never ask you to quit coffee. That would be cruel. David, you're on. Mark your calendars: starting right now this instant? Or midnight? Or what? Hmmm - how about tossing out what ever cigs you have left today when you go to bed tonight? I'll do the same. I find it easier to start the day fresh without them, rather than quitting mid-day. Let's do this thing and thumb our noses at the tobacco companies!! Calendar is marked --- 6/8/05. What am I getting myself into?!?!?! :D--> :D--> David
  10. Your definition of the difference works for me! David
  11. Yep -- Gospels were always "OT", and for our learning -- but the real *meat and potatos* of the Word was found in the 7 church epistles (or so they said). Jesus is certainly *absent* from us bodily, but twi took that one step further (imo), and made Him absent -- period. What Jesus Christ did and accomplished for us was overshadowed (in twi) by how big you could believe. *Believing = Receiving*, *Name It and Claim It*, whatever you want to call it -- it became up to us to get our own blessings and answers to prayer by mind power -- cause Jesus isn't around to help out. And then there is docvic's *famous dissertation* on why he could not pray the Lord's prayer. He totally threw out a teaching given by Jesus to the disciples, and said it was not relevant for us today. Yea -- we wuz robbed. Everything twi taught from the epistle's was orchestrated to make it a *feel good* ministry -- and that got translated into $$$ for the deep pockets there at hdqtrs. No wonder they shied away from the Gospels. David
  12. Hey there Chef. :)--> What year did you take it?? --> I took AC in Ohio (the live version) in '79, and then the taped version of the same class in Minnesota in '81. I had a good time taking both -- and no regrets, on my part. David

  14. No -- they are not so bad, but the folks judging them are. The skewed values that are being levied against the scouts by the liberal hate groups (yep -- I said that, and you can quote me on it) are just as bad (if not worse) than the accusations made against BSA. Seems like every last somebody gets to have *diversity* of opinion, until it involves christian morals or conservative thinking. I have no problem with groups distancing themselves from the scouts if they wish to, cause that is their right. But for them to turn around and say that the scouts are a hate group because they choose to exclude homosexuals from their private organization, makes the accusers the hate group instead. Highway -- sadly -- this is true. It's a shame that the more upstanding folks don't tell these groups who .... and moan about *gay rights* to take a hike, and allow *diversity* of thought to be enjoyed by all. This is all just my *IMHO* -- but if you ask me -- diversity seems to be pretty well one-sided, and not diversity by any stretch of the imagination (these days). David

Raf -- I just went an entire week without smokes, but then *flunked* as well. I'll quit for good if you do too. Give it a go, and be accountable?? (I won't quit coffee though!) David
  17. Congrats! This year would have been my 30th, but alas -- it ended 20 years ago. :(--> Good to hear someone *has a grip on things*. :D--> David

    Waking up woozy

Interesting. Pat Enright (guitarist, and lead vocalist) for THE DREADFUL SNAKES, and later THE NASHVILLE BLUEGRASS BAND was in a hospital bed, in a coma, and found by his bedside on a piece of paper (in his handwriting), were the following lyrics, which became a big bluegrass hit back in the 80's. Once he emerged from the coma -- he had no recollection of writing anything, but it was undeniably his handwriting, and a nurse found it on the floor by his bed during a routine check on him while he was still in the coma. Guess there is something to be said for that *in between state*.
  19. Chas -- good looking site! I may order some of that *skeeter-soap* for myself!! :D--> ('tis the season -- ya know.) --> David
  20. And this was in 1973??? Cripes -- how old does that make her now??? --> --> -->
  21. RR was always around on stage (it seems) giving out the announcements for some big event twi was promoting -- (Live class, weekends in the word, heartbeat festivals, soundout 84, etc.) I figured her to be the *official spokesperson* for these things, and not much more. Like Trefor says -- you always heard her on the sns tapes plugging some new ministry function. I remember she was big in the U. of L. (coordinating and such), but never knew much about her other "duties". Thanks for filling in some of the gaps there Linda and Oeno. :)--> David
  22. I came, I saw, and --- HEEELLLPPPPPP!!! I'M GETTING POSSESSED!!!!!!
  23. Vickles -- I agree. I also agree with whoever said it first here, that by their (twi as a corporation) giving to the tsunami *relief fund*, that headquarters is saying they are doing all they can/could -- so keep on giving to twi, and WE (twi) will continue to be proper stewards of your bucks. Yea -- right. David
