Just today -- I sat through a *creative thinking* seminar by Bob Ash. It was a required seminar for all full time employees of our company. That's about 125 folks, and the cost for each of us (picked up by the company) was $60.00 each. I don't know how much of the total cost he got -- but he was well worth it. He researched his material, gave us his life experiences, and added a whole lot of common sense into the mix. Someone like that I would be willing to pay, but not someone who takes other folks work, and pawn it off as their own. You're right -- college isn't free, nor are motivational speakers for seminars like this one. If they have done their homework, there is nothing wrong with paying them an honest salary. They have earned it. I will, however, draw the line with those that claim to have the *truth from God*, and expect the big bucks from it simply because they give one an emotional high with little homework involved, and just quoting the right scripture, at the right time in front of a large audience.

That says it all!! If the teacher delivers, folks will be willing to give. While I don't mind paying for what I get, it's nice to be able to determine what I think it is worth. :)-->

Forget the red drapes -- I'd rather see a new Harley parked outside the window!! :)-->

oh -- and a minor ps. here --- every last one of us practiced those 5 tunes to perfecton. ie ---- extra-curricular practice, when not on the playing field. :)--> Yup -- Fiddle Picking is a *sport*.
-
The only *sport* (which I equate to mean *contest*) I ever got involved with, were fiddle contests. We had a playing field --- the main stage. We had the fans ---- the audience. We had the *locker rooms* -- back stage and practice areas. We had the *trash talk* -- "Ya really gonna try it like that on-stage!!?? --> We had the hype -- *so and so, champeen fiddler will be competing* We had the upsets -- "G****** I shoulda won!" We had the referees --- 3 judges sitting out front, scrutinizing yer every note and bow stroke. We had the uniforms -- (western gear seemed popular, but I never wore the uniform. We had the rules of the game --- 5 tunes, and these styles only. We had folks publicized, ostricized, kicked out, ruled over, run over, with tailgating before the event, alcohol fueled fights after the event, and even a conciliatory comment or two from one participant to another when all was said and done. Sounds like a *sport* (contest) to me!! :D--> I made it to the masters divsion only thrice. So I guess every other time I *competed* qualifies as *minor league*! David

Ala --- I recently left aol, and switched my e-mail to yahoo.com. At first, Yahoo treated gsc mail as spam, until I moved it into the *new* file. Ever since, gsc mail has come through just fine. Maybe the letter is in your spam file, like Bob said?? That was the case (at first) with me and yahoo. Good luck. David

Sorry White Dove -- didn't mean to steal your gif or anything. Was just trying to copy it!! David Woops -- back to topic now! :D-->

Ala -- I remember that pic too. I think it may be in one of the old way magazines (roa edition -- mid 70's). I seem to remember that it was a Martin guitar he had. The reason it looks so small, is because it was a 00-18, or 000-18 size -- which is much smaller than the size one sees today. These days -- the guitars have wide bodies and big *shoulders* (up by the neck where the fretboard joins the body), but the 00-18, and the 000-18 were quite small in comparision. I don't think Martin makes these anymore, but they were hugely popular back in the 20's, and 30's. I used to have a 000-18 (kicking myself now for having sold it!) :(-->, and yes -- they are small, and almost do look like ukelele. :)--> David

--> Ok -- whatever. I was agreeing with you, though not perhaps grammatically correct. Mea culpa.

Regardless of grammar -- proper, or improper! Heh heh!!

Raf -- I can believe that. One of these days, he will dig a hole for himself too deep to climb out of. :)-->

Brother Speed --- Family tables is off-limits to us. :)--> One less twi-like forum to go to to defend what we now believe in!! HA! David

Bob --- I posted the *last lost teaching*, not Mike, although he started the thread. Since it was the subject of discussion, it seemed to behoove me to have it out there in full view, if folks wanted to talk about it. :)--> Mike has some serious questions to answer about it (given the claims he has made), and as I said on the other site -- I see nothing *spectacular* about it. David

Candsa -- I escaped in 86/87, and never went back. I still shudder when I think of what you all went through in the latter 80's, and into the '90's. Kinda like a horror flick, with unending sequels, don't cha know? David

Hiya Moony -- I used to be registered on that site, but like Bob says -- they didn't want us there, even though no flaming or any of that was taking place. I figure they thought I was a football, and should be in the *end zone* -- since they kicked me out of there so fast! :D--> They wanted (and probably still want) positive input on a recent twi funcion one might have attended. And when you register (a must if you wish to post), you do have to tell them who your twi coordinater is, or you don't get into the site. Plain and simple. It's locked down to the likes of us, but that's fine by me:)--> David
