Oldies -- I thought we were talking about the LOY-alty letter, and related stuff. I see you have made comments about the past years *not being relevant to the conversation*. Don't bring up 75-76 (I was there then as well), and then complain about early 80's stuff, ok?? :) David

Raf --- I forgot to thank you for the link to the LOY-alty letter. Thanks! :) Oldies --- please look at the bolded words in the first paragraph, and tell me honestly if you thinck lcm actually lived out that principle, or just mouthed it to look good? If twi was going down the drain because of the *sins* of the believers (lack of believing in leadership, refusing to abs, reaping the consequences of unbelief, yada, yada) -- makes sense to me he would (if what he said was what he actually practiced) not have gone the *face-melting* route. Face-melting ain't love -- no matter how you slice the pie. Now --- you also said that this letter was a *plea* from lcm for a second chance. I don't think so! HE DID MAKE A PLEA FOR A SECOND CHANCE in Nov. of 1986, which sounded a whole lot different from this here LOY-alty letter. A snippet here ----- The letter from '86 was a clear apology (probably meant little, but it was said). I bet it REALLY rankled when he (lcm) started receiving all the adverse letters in '87! :D The LOY-alty letter was a *my way or the high-way* letter -- plain and simple. He had *subtile habits*, yet needed *radical change* in the first letter. In the 2nd -- he merely says: " I have done all I know to do to live and share the Word of God. If that’s not enough evidence to convince you that I have changed, then I have nothing else to do but to invite you to leave." He offers no proof, just claims he's *been there, done that. And he expected all to believe he had done what was necessary to make the radical changes, to the subtile habits, in his life -- that would take twi into the next century. Right. Have a good day. I heard an interesting thing on the GARAGE LOGIC radio show today that I never knew, and it falls in line with what you said, Sudo. They were discussing Rosa, and the injustices of those times -- and someone made the comment that the black folks were allowed in the front door of the bus to pay for their token, but then had to exit that same door, and then re-enter the bus via the back door to get their seat. I'd not heard that one before, and it may be bogus -- but given the mentality of the times, I would almost bet that it's true. Bless her for the *stand* she did, and did not take! :)

Happy Birthday Mr. H!!!!! Next one's the big 5-0, eh? Here's hoping ya had a good one today! B) B) David

Joh* Schoenh*** has an excellent tape series out about the Old Testament, should you care to check it out (these days)! ;) I have a copy, and it is really worth listening to. :)

That might work for the younger guys ----- But the last time I had the offer of *super sex* -- I said -- "I"ll take the soup!"

For all I know, I may not be around to see if these things come to pass. I hope to be, though.

Mark -- over all, that was a great reply. You said a lot (and better conveyed) than what I tried to say. You made the point (quite well) about not subscribing to twi teachings, vs. those heard in churches. Question -- did *Traditional Christianity* flourish over the others, simply because it was the biggest thing going, and managed to last over the years?? I'm not baiting you here, this is an honest question -- because I look at what you said, and equate that to Jesus vs. the Pharisees of His era -- who happened to be the *established, traditional* religion at that time. Personally -- I have no problem with a *faction* rocking the theological boat (wasn't Jesus considered heretical in His time?), while I do have a problem with a *faction* claiming to be both the boat, and the waves that float it as well. FYI -- I was raised Catholic. It was a Catholic Charismatic group that taught me how to SIT, and it was the Catholic group I left for a Jesus Freak group, when I got involved with twi. I can see both sides of the equation here. Am wondering if you can see the *other side* as well?? David

Ole Ray Deaghton lived a good long life, and rather than wait for him to get to heavan, God decided to visit him on earth, and reward him right then and there. God said "Ray -- what do you want? I'll give it to you right now, here on earth." Ray thought a moment, and then said "You know, I've always wished there was a road that led over to Hawaii. I've never been there, cause the airfare was too expensive. I'd sure admire to see a road that me and the missus could just drive on, and get there." God said -- "Well, I'll tell ya. I made that place an island for a reason. It wouldn't fit in my plan of things to connect it to the mainland. Is there something else I can grant you?" Ray said -- "The only other thing in life I've ever wanted is to know how to please my wife at all times, to know what she is thinking, to be able to adjust to her moods, and to know how to answer her when she gives hints disguised as questions. I'd love to be able to do that". God thought a moment and then said ---- "That highway to Hawaii -- were you thinking 2 lane, or 4 lane?"

I don't remember Bozo either (in relation to McDonald's), but I did find THIS (Too many *happy meals* for that guy even back then, eh?)

Stop the tape -- look at the 6 words (in bold) just after *For instance*. Meebe one can re-neg on promises of committment in marriage (still putting god first - you understand), and then demand a loyalty unquestioned to himself?? Let's continue ... How can you raise children this way, if you are not setting the example?? Is raising children in the *nurture and admonition of the Lord* re-hashed in the old addage --- "DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO"?? No -- it is not new for a leader to ask for commitment, but what is new is for one who doesn't walk the talk to expect others to do the opposite. Sorry Oldies -- like Goey said -- on the surface this looks good, but so did the whited sepulchers Jesus had something to say about. And while I am at it -- Mr. H succinctly pointed out: The priorities in twi seem to be pretty evident. David

Knew a guy back in the 70's who was one of them there. He got his *minister's license* through the mail and used it to evade (or is that avoid?) the draft back when Viet-Nam was a happening thing. Hey Oldies -- that looks like expensive Holy Water. Try my recipe for something cheaper ------- Get some water --- And boil the HELL out of it!

I should add that at first, I almost dared them to teach me something! After a while though, I mellowed out and actually got something out of the services. You sure can't get anything out of it if you go in with a *bad attitude*. :D Penguin -- good point about gleaning what you can. Looking back on it, I guess I did the same with twi in the end there! David

Hey everybody --- THANKS!!! Had a great day. Was perfect fall weather here for driving around, wasting gasoline, and seeing the fall colors. Ron -- great quote! :D Cowgirl -- thanks for the song!. :) Whitedove -- am taking yer advice. B) Thanks again to all for all the well wishes. ;) David

JJ -- he's not in the pulpit anymore, but sitting in the *stringed chairs* instead. "oh the times, they are a'changin". --- Bob Dylan. ;)

Hiya dawna --- welcome to GreaseSpot. B) I've attended several ranging from *full gospel* to Jewish Messianic. Didn't care for the doctrine taught, but I went there more for the fellowship than I did for the teaching -- though it would have been nice to hear a good teaching. ;) The Messianic outfit taught me a lot about OT, but were lacking (imo) in the NT. I believe in administrations, and they did not. I did like a Baptist church I went to once. They taught well enough, but it had to sift through my *way-brain* (if you know what I mean). I saw a few folks there that used to be in twig with me too, so others of our *ilk* found it interesting enough to go to too. I don't go to church (these days), though if I found one that I liked (for the fellowship aspect), I would make a better effort in trying to attend, and be a part of the *church scene* again. David

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD??? John Locke: Because he was exercising his natural right to liberty. Machiavelli: The point is that the chicken crossed the road. Who cares why? The ends of crossing the road justify whatever motive there was. Timothy Leary: Because that's the only kind of trip the Establishment would let it take. The Bible: And God came down from the heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the Chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing. Darwin #1: Chickens, over great periods of time, have been naturally selected in such a way that they are now genetically predisposed to cross roads. Darwin #2: It was the logical next step after coming down from the trees. Jerry Seinfeld: Why does anyone cross a road? I mean, why doesn't anyone ever think to ask, "What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place anyway?" Martin Luther King, Jr.: I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question. Grandpa: In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken had crossed the road, and that was good enough for us. Bill Gates: I have just released the new Chicken 2000, which will both cross roads AND balance your checkbook, though when it divides 3 by 2 it gets 1.4999999999. Colonel Sanders: I missed one? Plato: For the greater good. Aristotle: To actualize its potential. Albert Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends upon your frame of reference. Ralph Waldo Emerson: It didn't cross the road; it transcended it. Joseph Stalin: I don't care. Catch it. I need its eggs to make my omelet. Dr. Seuss: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes the chicken crossed the road, but why he crossed, I've not been told! OJ Simpson: It didn't. I was playing golf with it at the time.

Ha!! I used to spell maybe as *mabey* and regardless as *reguardless*. Took me the longest time to learn to spell them correctly -- they just didn't look right when spelled the *new* way! "all these years"........ for me too. ;)
