Assume for a moment there is no God...
dmiller replied to JumpinJive's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Hmmmmm. Methinks you are mixing dispensations here with a *literary ability* equal to that of docvic, and what he did with scripture in general. You are taking that (of which you have heard), and mixing it with that of which you seem to believe, and propound them as one entity, and as truth. The two do not neccesarily mix, especially when the time frames you are discussing took place in two (maybe more) *dispensations* over the course of centuries. but that's just my IMO -- since dispensations don't seem to be a hot topic, and no one seems to give a ratzz azz about them -- but are willing to just spout rhetoric in general to prove a point they hold near and dear to their heart. Oak -- if dispensations are NOT a viable entity in the bible -- then you just made a very valid point. If not, then you didn't. Think it over. :) -
Hey hey!! Happy Birthday Kevlar! Hope you had a good one. :)

It's all in fun JL. :) Banjo was my first bluegrass instrument, and in many ways it's still my favourite. Banjo pickers are worse than anyone else when it comes to telling *banjokes*. So it's not discrimination. Just poking some fun at myself. :) ~~~~~ Hey -- What key do you get, if you drop a piano down a mine shaft??? A flat minor.

Oh -- ok. I wasn't doing that. Thanks. :)

One of these: will not win friends, or influence enemies --- But DANG!!! They are a lot of fun to pick! .......... :)

Whenever I send a PM to someone, it is never showing up in my *sent* box. I know they got the message when I get a reply, but why doesn't it show in my sent box, that a message was sent?? Just curious.

Used to me is good. The instrument has mellowed out, and sounds better than one that is brand new. Again -- I don't know that much about reed instruments. But of course, I am speaking about stringed instruments -- where the age of the wood involved (and use there-of) are involved. Wood mellows out over the years, and constant picking helps the tone to sound better. New instruments don't have that luxury afforded to them (at least stringed instruments). I know of one luthier up here in Minney-soda that makes mandos and guitars -- And I would not hesitate for an instant to buy one of his brand new. Even brand new -- his sound like they have been around for 40 or 50 years. :)

I need to address this also (if I may). :) There are two schools of thought about instruments, and beginning students. One school says buy the cheapest instrument possible, and wait and see if they are committed before buying them a really good one. The other school (to which I belong) says buy them the best instrument possible because ---- The better instrument sounds better, and inspires the student; The better instrument is easier to play; If the beginning student does not continue -- you can always sell a higher quality instrument and recap your initial investment. I am familiar with stringed instruments, rather than those with reeds -- but I am guessing the *dynamics* are the same. Go for the best you can afford. You won't regret it. :) David

This is a used instrument. It's worth around 1 million bucks. I know nothing about coronets, or trumpets, but I would NEVER buy a new instrument. Give me old ones, every time. Tried and true. ;)

From Ron Thomason and the Dry Branch Fire Squad: I once got a book by Mel Bay, to learn how to pick the guitar. Well my momma got hold of that book before I did, and she flat out refused to let me even take a look at it. Many years later, I got a hold of that book (again), and I finally figured out why she didn't want me to read that thing. Page one said -- GRASP YOUR PLECTRUM FIRMLY with your right hand. Page two said --- STROKE FIRMLY UP AND DOWN. Page three said - DO THIS AT VARYING SPEEDS, until you are comfortable doing it both slow and fast. Guess my momma never did want me playing with my plectrum! :D (Ron Thomason) Dry Branch Fire Squad

I moved to Minney-soda in 1978. Decided I wanted to go wow and when I put my application in I said I wanted to be assigned to this area, since it was new to me, I had no *old man hangouts or friends* here. Well -- not only did I get *sent* back here, but we had 5 wow families sent here that year. G*ne and D*bbi* N*sgoda had an old church building that they were living in, and they turned the upstairs sanctuary into a coffee-house for performing arts, while they lived in the downstairs area. The coffee-house was called the *Uncle Harry Coffee-house*, and Joyful Noise came and performed there in 1978. I remember the neighbors (in the area) being curious about the big *Silver Eagle Bus* parked outside the church. The coffee house was far from being complete when Joyful Noise showed up, and I remember Richie D*bartolo (sp?) being pis$ed off because he had to help lay down the carpet in the building. To his credit -- he did say later (that evening) that he was irritated at first, but saw the overall picture of the family working together, to get something done. And yea -- I have the concert on tape. :) It was good to see Dean again (he was my twig leader back in Indiana in 1977) and it was great to hear Joyful Noise up here in our neck of the woods. :) That was 1978. I might talk later about the TAKIT tour that blew through Minneapolis, but not now. :)
