Dang!!! What a treat that must've been! I grew up in southern Indiana, 20 miles from Bean Blossom, where Bill Monroe had his *Bluegrass Jamboree* going on, and the famous Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival. Once I got *bit* by the bluegrass bug, I was there whenever a show was going on. I saw Marty Stuart picking mandolin as a kid (teen-ager), for Lester Flatt, saw and picked with Kenny Baker (fiddler for Bill Monroe) up close and personal (we drank out of the same jar of moonshine between tunes), got a chance to pick with Jack Hick's (banjo picker -- for Bill Monroe), camped just across fron Dry Branch Fire Squad, heard Carl Jackson on banjo sit in with Father Bill, picking the Orange Blossom Special (1979, I think that was), and Ralph and Carter Stanley were regulars at the shows there before that even. But those shows were seasonal only. What a treat it must have been to go to a club week after week, and hear the talent you did. :)

Here is a pic of what a dobro cone looks like --- (not to be confused with one of Raf's *cones*.) ;)

Jonny Lingo -- John Duffey and the Seldom Scene were fixtures of the music scene back in the 70's and 80's. Sadly, John passed away back in 1996. I first saw him with his first group the Country Gentlemen that he and Charlie Waller started, and then later with the Seldom Scene which took bluegrass music to new heights. He was an awesome picker, and had a voice that just wouldn't quit. And you grew up listening to these guys live, and in person??? I'm jealous! ;)
  7. :( Thoughts and prayers going with you.

Bouzouki's are also called octave mandolins (tuned like a mandolin, with 12 extra frets). Put a capo at the 12th fret, and it sounds just like a mandolin. The one I have is made by EKO, with a built in pick-up. The one thing I don't like about it, is the bowl back to it, which makes it harder to hold. Also, the frets are kinda far apart down by the nut, making it a bit difficult to play also. I found this one at a bluegrass festival about 5 years ago.

    Branded

I don't see Branded listed on this site, but you can find a lot of believer music HERE, compliments of the Cortrights. :)
  10. Shucks. I may be *sloppy* by not citing pages from PFAL, but the fact that you also (bullinger) remember this, shows (to me that even you thought) it was there. I don't really want to haul all the pfal books out of storage, but I will if I have to. Docvic taught two different entities concerning this subject, and only one of them could be right. Not both. :)

Ps -- the pick-guard bar has the date July 4, 1911 stamped in it. And the pick-guard itself, has the date Mar. 30/ '09 stamped in it. :) PS --- 1917 was the last year Gibson did the *fancy tuners*, like I have on this guy. ;)

Pics of my mando? ;) Gladly. (the tuners have gold wire inlaid into them, with mother of pearl also inlaid into them, to give the *flower and vine effect*. :) This baby was made in 1917, is an F-2 Gibson, and kicks a$$ at jam sessions. :) It's got both the looks, and the projection, and yea -- I feel unworthy to own such a wonderful instrument. I was able to buy this from a friend, for less than 1,000 bucks of it's real value. Friends are good. Gotta love em. :)

    Ambassador One

On the thread about the Harley, Jim said this; I don't know if the tail numbers are the same as the registration number, but the way rag from January-February 1983 states: Interesting that the registration number is: N 328 VP The pic from the cover of the magazine, shows no tail numbers. Just a white dove, in a black circle (Ying and Yang??) ;) And the fact that it was a convair Con V(ic) air. Hmmmm. Anyone know where John R*ce is, the former captain of Ambassador One?
  17. Personally -- I would listen to those with past experience. (just my IMO). ;)
  18. Happy birthday, Lindy. :) Here's hoping you had a good one. (Keep Hap in line for us, ok?) ;)
  19. I'm 6' 5", and have never weighed over 190. I have tried to gain weight, and am just as unsuccessful as you all trying to lose it! <_< <_< <_<
  20. Ok. Let's say I agree with this. I am *agreeing* to two statements that are contradictory. 1) PFAL once worked well for us: 2) We saw that it was from God. I have a simple question that has never been answered to my satisfaction, and my question comes from what docvic taught in pfal. Perhaps you can enlighten me and explain at the same time how PFAL contradicts itself, and is still *from God*. (If it is FROM GOD -- it can't be contradictory -- right???) My question is this --- Docvic taught that it was NOT available to be born again before the day of Pentecost. Docvic taught that Cain was born of the seed of the serpent. Docvic taught that being born again was the mystery. Docvic taught that the adversary can only COPY what God does. So -- my question is -- how can docvic (pfal) say in one sentence that there were folks *born again of the seed of the serpent* thousands of years before it was *available* on the day of Pentecost, which (according to docvic) was the gist of the mystery. If you can explain this, I'll be impressed. But I'm not holding my breath. ;)
  21. Mike, you missed my point, when I quoted Dooj. What I am agreeing with, is her premise that you are not coming from a *known* conclusion, but are rather coming from a perspective that only you hold. Now -- everyone is entitled to their opinion (you, me, and every last somebody), but the way you have laid out these things you have been saying requires that we think like you. Dooj made a valid comment about starting with the known, and moving on from there to prove a point. You haven't done that. And yes -- I did read your post to her. I've said it before, and now I'll say it again ~~~ you are grasping at straws. You have a knack for picking and choosing words, and then say *this proves* docvic was speaking for God. Sorry ~~~ I don't buy it. :) Start with a known entity, and go from there. Not something you have conjectured.
