HA!! Not sure. Blue Moon of Kentucky was written by Bill Monroe - - - - > > > If I recollect correct, Blue Moon of Kentucky was the first hit for Elvis way back when. If I have the story straight, Elvis actually called Bill and apologized for doing one of his (Bill's) songs in the rock and roll style, instead of the traditional bluegrass as it was originally written. Here's the - - - - > > > Elvis Version Of It.

Oh geez - - - I forgot to mention. On my way back from the Black Hills of South Dakota, I saw 3 of the folks who had been in the L.E.A.D. "adventure" (all from my home town here), with their thumbs out, there on the highway. I pulled over to see what was up. They were "trying to exercise" believing to get a ride back home (about 1 mile or so from my house). I waited about two minutes after offering them a ride, before they all started loading their luggage into the car for a trip back home. with "no worries". :) Hey - - - Geo, if you're reading this, the three folks were Steve/ Jeanie/ and Elsa. Them were the days, eh??!! (edited for spelling).

When I first got into twi, TFI (Total Fitness Institute) was going on, but "winding down" as the L.E.A.D program was taking it's place. TFI (from what I recollect) was more about doing an outdoor camping/ hiking/ etc./ experience. i could be wrong about this. L.E.A.D. was some of that, but (imo) it also added the hitch-hiking to the destination on top of the week in the woods. Seems (from what I know from corps folks), there was more emphasis put on that aspect of it, than the actual experience. I took L.E.A.D. in 1985 and while we were there "out on the field" a uniformed Park Ranger with a six shooter on his hip (we were in the Black Hills of South Dakota), came out to look for whomever was in charge of our group of believers out there climbing rocks and doing some rappelling. Seems the Park HQ there in the Black Hills State Park had received an urgent phone call from HQ in New Knoxville that we (the L.E.A.D folks) needed to know that docvic had drank his last drambui, and had drawn his last breath. Our session there was cut short by several days (we'd all paid for a full week, and got gyped out of at least two days), because docvic didn't "have the believing" to live for a few more days and let us get our money's worth. Sure - - - I'm being facetious here, and if I recollect correct, I've already mentioned this on this thread, but I'm not gonna go and search for my earlier posts on this topic. But talking about that, reminds me that I want to talk about this: When I went into the L.E.A.D. program, it was because I wanted to. I was never Corps, and the L.E.A.D. program was offered for those who wanted to take it (i.e. - - - - read JOE BELIEVER). Well - - - some of you you might be familiar with Chris Granlich. He was the "area leader" at the time, and he was MOST INSISTENT that we (the branch of Duluth, MN) all hitchhike out to the Black Hills in accordance with the corps (way of doing things). Even though I was living in the same house he was (at the time - - - a Wow-Vet home), I basically told him he could take a flying **** at a - - - ahhhh nemmermind. The site would delete what I told him. Regardless - - - I ended up driving out there, and had a great time. These many years later, I'm thinking that twi put more emphasis on the "getting there" than they did the actual experience of climbing on some rocks, and then rappelling back down. As usual, just my imo. but since I was there, and these are experiences I went through I think it's a valid imo.

Yup. 2 AM here in Minney-soda. I need to get up tomorrow for work myself. Take care, eh?
-
Heckler - - - you can do like i did, and print it out in it's entirety. I tried to get the "hard copy" from David Anderson, and he sent me back an emai wondering why I wanted to buy the book from him, when i could look it over on the internet for free?? Ah well. I went and printed the whole thing off and was then able to read it in book fashion. Seriously - - - he offers some real food for thought. Have fun with it, eh?
-
That's an interesting topic. I took the class (Rise and Ex) that Craig taught, but there's another poster on this site named David Anderson (who did a lot of the video stuff for twi back when docvic was alive), that has a whole different take on the book of Acts. You can get his book: The Two Ways Of the First Century Church - - - - > > > HERE! for free. It's an eye opener for sure.

Nice. Thanks!

One piece of advice LCM never did hear (or adhere to) was: Keep your stick on the ice!

Charismatic Catholic groups were prominent in the mid 70's. I don't think they are around much (these days).
-
Hey there Chockfull - - - i learned how to SIT in a Charismatic Catholic fellowship I was involved with before I even heard of twi.
-
Heckler - - - this is Pawtucket's site. Paw started it around year 2000 (I think that's right). He holds the keys to the door here.

Craig got "caught" with his pants down around his ankles (so to speak). Last I heard he was loading boxes on UPS trucks.

P.S. - - - - I'm trying to be kind to you here, and offer some friendly advice, should you care to take it. Yes. I SIT. My main avenue of prayer.
-
Actually - - - I for one don't want anything from you. However, there a lot's of folks here who have found this site to be helpful in (whatever) things they personally have had to deal with, as a result of having been involved with the ORG (twi). From what I've read so far (Heckler), you are young (25 years old), and have no concept of what actually happened back in twi before you were even born. I don't mean that as a "diss" on your character or anything, but the truth about it all is - - - Things happened that "never made the History books", as it were. If you have questions, they'll certainly be addressed here. If you entertain certain beliefs - - - please go ahead and talk about them. This is not a docvic/ twi friendly site, however many who came here (I include myself in the "many"), felt a whole lot like you seem to feel now, when they/ we first came here too. It always pays to be civil, and antagonistic postings will get you nowhere. Neither on this site, or others. Just my IMO.

Interesting. Back in the day (when I went WOW in 1979), "cold witnessing" was what was expected and required. We were to hold a 20 hour a week job, and witness (knocking on doors/ etc.,) for 40 hours per week. If we witnessed (shared the word/ showed the green card for the class) to a person and they "hemmed and hawed", we were told to forget them. And - - - it's a testament to the Mormons that they truly do want to help folks. It wasn't "extreme witnessing" on their part to offer what they did. It's what they do. You should have been here (on this site) several years ago, when Maureen (a practicing Mormon) shared her thoughts about what her denomination did, and why.
-
LCM said something smart??? That's news to me!!!
-
You know - - - reading this here got me to thinking about something that happened to me about a year ago. A couple of Mormons knocked on my door looking to witness (much like we all did in the WOW program), and I was never one to turn away anyone from my door. Especially folks who "are on a mission". I figured they were there because they wanted to be, and far be it from me to make their day a harder one than it already promised to be. So I invited them in, asked if they needed to use the bathroom, offered them a cold drink, that sort of thing. Well - - - the upshot of it is, we talked but couldn't agree on theology. We parted amicably, and as they were leaving one of the guys said to me "Say. I see your house could use a coat of paint or two. Do you need someone to help you paint it?? We'd be glad to help." I smiled and said "That's ok. I'll get it done on my own." The Mormon guy insisted - - - "No. Seriously. We'd be MORE THAN WILLING to help." Needless to say I was floored by his/ their willingness to extend a kindness to someone who didn't agree with what they taught/ thought/ etc. Now - - - if you want to "move the Word", I'm thinking (given the example provided to me by a coupla Mormon missionaries), you do it by showing love/ compassion/ helpfulness/ etc., to those who you do not know, and never may meet again. I know for a fact that if any of us out on the WOW field had offered to help paint a guys house for him, we would have been reproved for "wasting our time on an unbeliever".

Good idea Mstar. That's 100% correct!!!! Sadly - - - even though twi and some offshoots (more specifically CES/STFI) teach (in theory) the same thing, what they actually "require" of their followers is much more precise/ limiting/ and demanding. In other words - - - one thing is taught in a sermon/ teaching/ whatever, but when it comes to the financial coffers of "the ministry", suddenly the requirements become more stringent. I could tell you stories of how I was castigated by "leadership" back in the 1970's for NOT giving to twi, even though I was sponsoring several folks through the corps at the time. I figured that I was "giving to the ministry" by sponsoring those folks but that wasn't good enough for twi. If I wasn't giving to them (the ORG) directly, my giving didn't count. I found that out to be the case with CES/STFI also. You can choose to believe me or not, but that was the case back then, and then again in the 1990's with the CES outfit. They "preach a good sermon" when it comes to giving out of your heart, but if it impacts them directly (since someone else is getting your monetary gift rather than themselves), suddenly the tune changes. It's too bad they (twi and CES) can't follow the example of George Mueller.

Since there is "Nothing new under the sun - - - - - -" They are Teaching ABS/ Collecting ABS/ and Spending ABS. Docvic lives on in spirit and principle if not in reality, eh?
