  1. I remember those times. My "tenure" was from 1974 until 1986 and yes, the ROA had some pretty amazing displays of talent. Remember that Way Tree made out of roofing nails? Perfectly done with exquisite detail. I wish I had a picture of that today. Remember the "face of Jesus" (if I recollect correct) done by writing out the gospel of John, and shading the letters to make the picture? Stained glass presentations on display that were awesome to look at (Mstar - - did you do any of those?) Back in 78-79 (my WOW years), there was a fella here in Duluth (fellow wow) who was a jeweler, and when he hit town with all the other wow's and myself that year he immediately landed a job with one of the more prestigious jewelry firms here in town because he was so good at what he did. He was able to buy "product" from them at cost (or less for "seconds" - - since he worked there), and he set out to make an oversized WOW pin for good ole docvic who was gonna "bless us", by showing up for a limb meeting here in Minney-soda. Well - - he got the gold and other stuff to make that "pin" for docvic (it was about 5 inches wide by 3 inches tall), and when he got done it looked just like a WOW pin, except it was flatter than a pancake and didn't have the "sphere" to it that WOW pins have. So he drilled a small hole in one end of it, somehow fitted up an air pump to a hypodermic needle, and "blew" air into the front and the back of the pin (that he had welded together) to inflate it to where it looked like a real WOW pin. Creativity like that has long since left the premises of the farm in Ohio. They "ain't interested" in promoting creativity. They don't give a rip about what you can think of/ can do/ or can produce if it isn't first legislated/ or pre-approved by the Org. Fu-ckrying-out-loud, last I heard you can't even TEACH A TEACHING at a meeting without previous approval from "them that are in the know". I guess that's old news, but to me it still rankles that the fugg-tards there at the ORG have to have their fingers in every piece of the pie. Well - - - IMO - - - them that "are in the know" don't know Jack Sch!tt and have their heads stuck so far up their hind ends, that they wouldn't recognize creativity if it slapped them up-side the head. There once was a time when all things new and wonderful were accepted and embraced. Welcome to The Way International folks (as it is known today). Check your creativity at the door if you choose to enter. Oh, and - - - assume "the position" just like the BOD has done. It isn't comfortable, but you'll get used to it after a while.
  2. Yup. Docvic used to say "10 minutes of S.I.T. is better than 8 hours of sleep", (or something to that effect). I fell for a lot of what he said, but that line there was so absurd and over-the-top it defied credibility even *back then*.

    Sudo - - - It's a "Walter-ism", not an "LCM-ism". Honest! :)

    Song of the moment

    Cool tune, cool instrument!!! Never "seen nothin" in my life like this here before! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  5. I never heard that tune before tonight. Just "shows to go ya" what a Catholic upbringing (schooling) will do, eh? Oh - - - and yes. I was DEFINITELY around during that time period also. (Did I use "also" correctly and in the right place?)
  6. The explanation given (back in the mid-70's) was: "It's OK if you're *spiritually mature* enough to handle it". Dat's riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, keeds.
  7. If you delete the word "thumb" so the last part of the url reads 126692320916.jpg, it should show up like this:
  8. One of the best works I've seen on the Book of Acts - - - - - > > > http://my.en.com/~anders/intro.html The entire book is free for the reading, and printing out on your own. Follow the links to read it in it's entirety.
  9. Jeff - - - That is (imo) B as in B and S as in S. I was there at the Rush City meeting when JAL was there along with Greg Pharis (the promoter of personal prophecy) meeting there in vic (barnYard) jr's house. If I recollect correct, JAL was on a "recruiting mission" to gain both new folks for CES (ordinary joe's) as well as checking out "new theology" (as evidenced by the presence of Greg Pharis and his personal prophecy teachings). I'm glad you use the word "reportedly" when you mentioned that check because (at that time) JAL was still soliciting "air travel funds" to get from point A to point B to spread "the Word" across the country according to CES. I doubt seriously that he would have $100,00 dollars expendable cash to just give to some guy in northern Minnesota to start up a new church that had some HUGELY fundamental differences with what he (JAL and CES) held. I remember Vic Jr. teaching at that same meeting how the Church was actually the bride of Christ (rather than the Jews), and hearing him say he would never back down from that belief. JAL didn't look too pleased when that was being taught, but he didn't contradict or say anything to the detriment of the "teaching". Likewise - - - Greg did a teaching that same weekend on how it was "perfectly acceptable" for any number of folks to be shouting praises/ speaking in tongues/ etc., etc., during a church service all at once (decent and in order?), and JAL seemed to ignore that as well. Everything I gleaned from that weekend (as pertains to JAL and his presence there) was that he was there to promote CES. He ended up rejecting both vic and greg due to "doctrinal differences" even though he (seemed) to be interested in what was being taught by them at the time. Perhaps that was a smoke screen, eh? Although I will have to say the Personal Prophecy thing took root, even if Greg's idea of the Trinity didn't. I could be wrong about all this, but I doubt it. If there's proof to the contrary, let's hear it. If vic jr. told you that (about the check), take that statement to the bank - - - along with all your 3 and 7 dollar bills. BarYard is a liar/ cheat/ and manipulator. I trust him and his words as far as I can throw him. And yes - - - You can quote me on that.
  10. To add my 2 cents worth here - - - I found it very clear (from the "git-go") that the the "recruiting of kids" mentioned earlier dealt exclusively with the SAT thing rather than any "ministry" JAL might be currently involved in. It was "as plain as the nose on my face", and I got a big chuckle out of those (who have a LOT more "smarts" than I) that either couldn't/ wouldn't/ or refused to see it. That being said - - - Kimberly raises a very poignant issue about "earning trust". Not to derail (too much) here, a friend of mine in a small town in Florida (his name is Randy) does "ministry" work to inmates at the local prison. He lost a leg due to a drunk driver in a car when he was on a motorcycle (at age 16), and though now in his 50's, he's learned to live with both his disability as well as what he considers his "ministry". He goes and preaches/ counsels/ etc., at the prison in his town on a weekly basis and considers it time well spent. He asks for no money, he asks for no "trust", and he isn't looking to build a "following". He's there to serve those less fortunate than he is, although in my book he would qualify as one of the "less fortunate" himself given what has happened to him in his life at such a young age. I think that someone who can "preach and counsel" like that in a local area to inmates in a prison with NO aspirations of greatness for himself because he is truly putting others first and not seeking a "global market", is the better person. For what it's worth - - - I've attended many churches since my daze in twi and ces/stfi. I have YET to have a minister in ANY of those congregations welcome me because THEY EARNED MY TRUST!!!, and I've gone to everything from Baptist to Messianic Jewish congregations, with Jehovah Witnesses thrown in the midst. WTF is "EARNING YOUR TRUST" all about????????. Aren't you there to minister to them, or are they there to minister to you? To repeat a venerable old phrase from the docvic era - - - "Take a check-up from the neck up". Who sang that in Joyful Noise? Dean? Skip? Brian? I forget now, but it's applicable in this situation.
  11. Not to further derail this thread - - - but: Roy has always been cool in my book. I don't always agree with everything he says, but then again that's the norm (for me) whenever i read anybody's posts. So if I do disagree with "a belief" posted it's no real big deal. Ironically ( or maybe NOT so ironically), ex-cultists on other boards (notably the ex-JW boards) listen to what Roy has to say and can comment civilly without slamming or flaming. Canst thou go and do likewise??
  12. Ham - - - I (personally) wouldn't try to pick out a name for this "new ministry". Nor would I be sarcastic about it either, if I tried to. It's a given that here on this site JAL is not loved and is thought of with distrust and skepticism. IMO - - - it's best to let things (such as this) lie and "die a natural death" without prompting from the "popcorn section". There's a TON of "ministries" out there that I don't agree with, but you can't say they are totally devoid of God and goodness to those to whom they reach. If you don't like JAL, fine. Spend some time denigrating the Baptist church/ the Catholic church/ the JW's/ the Church of God/ Pentecostals/ Latter Day Saints/ etc. as well while you are at it. JAL's made mistakes in his past, seems to be continuing in them, but do you really think sarcasm is gonna fix that?? I've got no dog in this fight, but I personally would respond better to positive criticism than that which was sarcastic. Given my past correspondences with CES (and JAL), I doubt you'd get a reply, but sarcasm leaves a stain on the soul, and I (for one) believe that we will one day have to answer for all our words spoken (or typed).
  13. I've seen this story before and checked it out on Snopes, but couldn't find it there, so I don't know if it's true or false. However - - - since I work with the mentally disabled, I can say that routine (in their lives) is an absoLute GIVEN. Try and do something different, and you'll get a whole handful of "grief" from them directed your way both quickly and emphatically. Meals happen at certain times/ lunch for the next day has to be done at certain times/ laundry has to be done at certain times/ TV shows have to be watched when they are being aired/ etc., etc., etc., and Lord help the staff person who tries to offer something "different". The "innocence" of each and every client I know, is manifest in more ways than can be counted. They're in their own world and couldn't care less about what others think of them as they act on their own impulses/ feelings/ etc. Totally uninhibited and "living for the moment" in every thing they do. Those of us who are "normal" could easily learn a thing or two from these folks.

    Song of the moment

Last September 11th (Yea - - - 9/11) I found a saxophone in it's case, by the curb of a side street near me. I posted in the local paper's "lost and found", and also on the local Craig's List that I had found this thing lying by the side of the road and invited anyone who might have lost it to give me some qualifying remarks about what kind it was, etc., and identify it so I could return it to the rightful owner. No one answered my ads, and I still have the sax. I took it to a local music store, and they told me that given the instrument/ the different mouth pieces/ and the reeds and everything else within the case that it was worth about $1,200 bucks.<br><br>I have no idea as to how to get the reeds properly positioned in the mouthpiece (I'm used to strings, not wind instruments), and I'm not sure I want to try to use the mouthpieces there anyway since I "don't know where they''ve been". Does anyone have suggestions about how to practice "safe sax"? <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif"> <div><br></div><div>Where's Skip Mesquite, when ya really need him, eh? <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/biglaugh.gif" alt="" class="bbc_emoticon"></div>

<br><br>Thank you bulwinkl. It was great to hear Roy Acuff/ Ricky Skaggs/ Jerry Douglas/ Earl Scruggs/ Johnny Cash/ Mark O'Connor/ EmmyLou Harris/ Randy Scruggs/ Chet Atkins/ Marty Stuart/ and the Dirt Band do that tune again. <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":)"> I remember when the first *Circle* album came out, and Roy Acuff was looking at John McEwen (the banjo picker for the Dirt Band then), and commenting on his (John's beard). Roy said something to the effect of "Hmmmm. I've always heard you're supposed to judge a man by the character of his face. How can you do that , if his face is covered with hair??" <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/biglaugh.gif"><br><br>Oh - - - I forgot to mention, the first "Circle" album was released in 1972. There was a different set of values *back then*,
