Waysider -- yes it will. Type in *mandolin* after his name, and you won't get the Eagles. ;)

    Guitar Talk

A friend of mine surfaced from obscurity on another web site today. He used to live here in Duluth, he's young, and plays the most awesome mandolin music you will ever want to hear. He used to sit next to me at our Wednesday night jams at Sir Ben's, and inspired me to no end. He left us a year or so ago to go to Berklee College of Music as their first ever mandolin student. In the past year, he's made great inroads into the music business because of his talent (and humility). He's gotten accolades from all the greats in the business (because he is so good), has picked on stage with a lot of the greats (because he is so good), and is a rising star in the music world (because he is so good). Another picker about whom I can say --- "I knew him when -----------" (I'm feeling left behind here.) His name is Joe Walsh, and you can see him perform at the Kennedy Center HERE, if you click on the top link to Charlie Worsham and The Free State of Tallahatchie. The video is about an hour long. Joe is playing in the first half of it or so.
  3. Sighhhhhhh!! Even celestial bodies get M & A'd. :( ;)
  4. Potato -- check out THIS THREAD. :) Chris (Ck) flies his true colors here.

And some more That's Tony Rice playing guitar and singing. Sadly -- he's had some sort of throat cancer, and can barely speak these days, much less sing like you hear him here. His guitar was formerly owned by Clarence White (who with his brother Roland formed the Kentucky Colonels), and they broke up when Clarence joined the Byrds, doing electric, and not acoustic. Clarence was killed in a hit and run accident in (I think) 1973. And that's Jerry Douglas on dobro -- so ChattyKathy can hear how it's supposed to sound. :)

    Some late night entertainment :)
  7. Ck -- just for the record --- You were never in twi, correct? So our *stone cold hearts* is a perception in your mind, due to your allegiance to twi, which you've never been a part of (if I recollect correct). You never met docvic, but still claiming he is an apostle? You didn't have first hand dealings with his BS, like others here. FYI -- folks here don't thive on the hatred of twi, we thrive on living life as we should have been able to, while still in. You -- having never experienced that -- wouldn't know what a release it is. BTW --we are a happy crowd. Happy to be free of legalism and mind control. It's nice to be able to think for one's self again, without someone over your shoulder. But you wouldn't know about that -- so it's a moot point.
  8. Linda -- hearing it here -- it sounds pretty blurred. :( You should hear it in the original!! But I did what I could. Thanks.
  9. Mark -- thank you for your input. What you said makes a whole lot of sense. I hesitated posting this last night, for those very reasons you espoused. I am more than willing to put up with a brand new poster, still thinking twi thoughts. I have no problem with that at all. Civil conversation and discussions can be utilized, and they can make choices, based on how they feel, what they want in life, etc. But I do have a problem with someone coming in here to *raise hell*. I don't need that. Folks questioning twi don't need that. This board doesn't need that. We are about helping, not condemning. Again -- thanks for your input. Sorry if I sounded like I was condemning someone irrationally . I never meant it in that light.
  10. Ok. I'll bite. While loathe to pick unaccompanied over the phone, I remembered a tape I have, where I am playing all the instruments. I'll try to play that over the phone. Hopefully it will be *airable*. The tune is called "Fischer's Hornpipe". I'm playing piano, bass, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, banjo and cello. I recorded it all on a Fostex 4-track recorder in my dining room, where the piano is.. Hope you all like it. Merry Christmas. :) (edited for spelling)
  11. hmmmm. Can that be done over the phone?? We'll see. ;)
  12. I did forget to mention this -- Ck. If you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem. You have a skewed version of the *solution*. (again --- my imo)
  13. Here is the latest quote from Ckmkeon: Here's a dude that has it all bass-ackwards. If GSC isn't about helping people, I don't know what is. Twi has made that claim, and failed miserably (over several dedcades I might add). The only thing twi helped with (aside from lifting money from *believers* pocket's), was the hijacking of an entire generation of folks who wanted to do do right by God. So Ck -- take a hike. Go. Leave. Syonara (or however it's spelled). Go to where you (might) be welcome. (I say that with all the love-of-God-in-renewed-mind-manifestation-that-I-can-muster). If you love docvic so much -- join him. (We can show you where he is buried). (but I think you know that already). Sorry -- bro, I don't like being equated with that evil org, twi. They have no scruples, and many scruples can be found here. You can make assumptions, but they are just that, and nothing more. In other words --- you haven't woken up, and smelled the coffee. So -- back to the title of the thread ---- GSC is all about people helping people. Twi is all about milking people for what they are worth. Twi has a long row to hoe, before they can even begin to claim what we at GSC do. Do us here at GSC a favor, and DO NOT compare us to twi. Thanks (in advance). (PS -- Paw (moderators, whomever) --- I posted this here. If it should be relegated to a different forum, please do so.) Ck is personifying the mentality I've been trying to leave, (even after 20 years), so I didn't know where this should be posted. Do what you need to do, or not. As long as he reads it --- that's what counts (to me), (not that it will change anything).
  14. Good (and inspiring) answers!! This thread is offering solutions, rather than just a "re-hash" of where twi got it wrong. Reading some of the comments here, gives me a new perspective on the subject. For an *historical twi* account of the Renewed Mind -- turn to page 327 of the Orange book. Oh -- you tossed yours out?? Let me quote from mine (falling apart, cause they were too cheap to use a good binding, or is that because it is so old and UNUSED)?? (On page 327 (hmmm -- reminds me of a Chevy engine in a Camaro I once had) --- Docvic says --- "What does it mean to renew one's mind? It means to *hold the Word in mind and act accordingly." Then he gets into the greek metamorphoo and launches into Romans 12:1,2. Well -- (I know -- deep subject for my shallow mind) --- that coulda been right. At least Romans 12:1,2 were (imo) But whatever was meant by that (docvic's) interpretation, WAS IN NO WAY followed by either himself or those who endeared themselves to twi, and put themselves in direct opposition to the Word of God. Whatever *mouthings* of the great docvic found their way into print were soon corrupted by himself (first and formost), and others later on. Sure -- *Renew your mind* was a commonly/ often heard term in the way-daze. But we (I) had a bit of trouble figuring out the spoken BY WHOM and TO WHOM (gotta get them dang *whom's correct - dont'cha know), when it actually came down to scriptual reproving, versus twi BS I was told to renew my mind more than once (let's just say -- A LOT)! And it was usually when I was confronting local leadership about an *edict* they had mandated. When told to *renew my mind* -- it was (usually) to acquiece to what they said. They were leadership, they represented twi, and twi represented God. And there was the problem -- what they spoke was from an org. I wasn't being reproved correctly according to scripture. (But it was more than correct, coming from twi. And there is the crux of this issue in my mind. I have no problem wanting to line up with scripture, and trying to do my best as I see it (in that sense renewing my mind). But having someone tell me I am not following *Party* doctrine, and Renew Your Mind To It stinks to High Heaven. Meebe docvic got it right on page 327. And then again meebe he didn't. His org surely didn't exemplify that, nor did he. What's the word they used ? Buncha pikers?? I'm liking the suggestions and possibilities I'm reading here at GSC much more than those offered by ACP. (Ps -- I'd throw out my orange book too, but it gives such GREAT perspective when I read here, and then read it afterwards (or during, or in between). You learn more at GreaseSpot Cafe by accident, than you do at twi by design.

    Guitar Talk

Well -- if you're tuned to an open chord -- yes, it'll sound the same but (imo) a little bit harder to get a *clean* sound if the strings are lower. An acoustic guitar will sound just like the dobro, if it's in an open tuning. So you haven't lost your mind yet -- (at least when it comes to music!)

That's a dobro being played there. You can see the metal cones on it in the video. So it'll have the extra high nut on it already. :)
  17. I posted this in the Just Plain Silly Forum. (on page 4 of that forum now -------------), but now that there is an actual *blonde* thread, I thought it worth resurrecting. ;) Blonde Star.

    Cool Clock

Shellon -- great link!!! I called in some of the guys to the office (that live in the group home), to see it. They were fascinated by how it looked so different from the clocks they have on their walls. Sure -- I had to explain and point to each row before they understood it fully, but once they got it, they got it. :) PS -- one of them (Otho - our newest client there, 68 years old) wanted to see the 2007 mark turn over! I told him he had to wait a while for that one!! ;)
