(sigh!!!!!) There's past things that have happened that you know little --- oh -- nevermind. It's water under the bridge now. ^_^ -
Oak -- sorry for the late response. (Mea Culpa!) I agree with you 100% about a christian, trying to use the bible, in Muslim territory. Nother words -- it ain't a'gonna fly -- no matter how the mustard is cut. Regardless -- I stand by my original premise --- that immigrants came here to be a part of the whole, and NOT segregate themselves. This is not a Muslim country. Nor (from past experience), has this been a country that individual identity has taken precedence, over all, as has been prevelant in the last few elections. Now -- since it has been established that the *swearing in on the Q'ran" is a photo-op, (and nothing else---), that spells division to me. Sure -- Ellision is now a member of congress. Sure -- he was elected by constituants in his area. BUT -- by choosing the Q'ran -- he chose to declare INDEPENDENCE, rather than solidarity, since it was (after all) -- a photo-op. That is what ticks me off. He isn't looking to forward goals (imo) that benefit others. He starts out making a *personal* statement, for publicity, and *personal identity*. Maybe time will prove me wrong. I hope so. Right now --- it sucks. Let's see how he works out. I'm willing to give him space to prove himself, despite his dubious beginnings.

I don't eat pork any more either. Low salt, low fat, and MODERATE portions when you eat will work. Fish is better than chicken, which is better than beef. But regardless of your choices -- exercise will ALWAYS complement it. As they say up here in Minney-soda (on the billboards on the freeway) --- "Groove your body 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a day" :)

Thank you sister EX -- It is now established!! ;)

Hey SPUDSTER!! One of my more succesful tunes is called *Little Potato Creek*! I think you could *peel that tuber tune* away from me, and get a away with it given your name. ;) But if you do -- I'll hunt you down with a knife and fork, with lot's of sour cream and real butter to boot! :P

Happening day to you!!!!

Potato -- this is long and dry (to me), but here is THE STORY OF ASCAP AND BMI. I tried to read it -- but got lost after several paragraphs. Hope it makes sense to you, and answers your question. Sorry for the

I doubt it. -
Potato -- I don't know. But here is what I do know. Myself and some friends played reguarly on Tuesday evenings, at a local coffee-house. We weren't paid for it (other than free coffe), and we did tunes like these. The owner of the coffee-house was approached by ASCAP, saying that royalties need to be paid for. Chip (the owner) asked why??, and was told that the songs being played weren't PD anymore. I won't bore you with the names of the tunes we did --- but suffice it to say, most were written in the previous century, and have been PD for quite some time. But not anymore -- according to ASCAP, and Chip was being called on the carpet, for NOT paying *royalties due to the owners*. The upshot of it is -- we were forced to shut down our innocent jam session, that catered to the local folks who came out in droves to hear us having fun, because of some jerk from ASCAP demanding royalties for tunes, that were written 100 or so years ago. Like I said -- I don't know the legality about it. I just know that it has happened.

Hey there WhiteDove (and all). :) Public Domain --- something that is crumbling (these days). Even things that are in PD, are now *owned* by someone else, who have the money to buy it. I know this because quite a few fiddle tunes (from the 1800's and such), that USED to be PD -- are no longer so. What's my point?? I doubt if docvic bought any of the PD rights (from whomever), to legally put his name on them. I'll grant you that he and Stiles might've had an agreement (unlikely -- but a maybe). I'll grant you that Stiles may have deliberately NOT copyrighted his work, so that others could use it *freely*, to the benefit of other parishioners elsewhere. Now -- what I don't agree with is his (docvic's) putting HIS name on another's work. Even IF IT WAS PD -- he had NO right to do so. I'll give a simple illustration here. I've written a fistful of fiddle tunes. Most are decent, and some are quite good. I've been approached by various groups, wanting to record the tunes I've written. None of my tunes are copyrighted. Therefore -- they are PD. But the groups that wanted to use them on their CD's, got hold of me for permission. Now -- had they just taken one of my tunes, put it on their CD, and made money off of it, AND attached their name to it (instead of mine) -- I'd be p!$$ed. The ONLY thing I ever asked, was that they recognize me as the composer, and that they would do the tune *justice* I have NEVER received a dime for them, NOR did I ask for money. It was my pleasure to have the tunes out there for folks to hear. So maybe *Fiddle-istics* doesn't match up to *Religiosity*, but the basic premise is the same. This makes sense to me. Perhaps it will to you too.

Woops! I missed this one! (I saw the *likeaneagle*, and not reading the caption below it -- I thought it was a PM. Mea culpa!) Here's hoping your day was a GREAT one! :)

This subject has been discussed MUCH -- up here in Minney-soda. There are many here who are outraged (staunch Lutherans, and Catholics), because of the Q'ran vs. the Bible. (please note I capitalized them BOTH). Personally -- I don't like it -- but my opinion has NO religious connection. HERE IS A SITE, THAT GIVES HIS BIO. He seems like a nice guy, he represents a diverse neighborhood, they voted him in, altho *greater* Minney-soda is not happy. (*Greater* is a term used up here for any outlying district from Mpls/ St. Paul). I, personally, see this as another *chink in the armor of the USA*. With all the heated debate going on up here -- one fact has been established. William made the point earlier here that the actual swearing in had NO book involved. And that the "book photo swearing in" was just that -- a photo-op. That fact has been established (to the consternation of the staunch folks here), but the fact I want to address remains, sans religion. I understand that America is made up of immigrants. Fine. I understand that there are diverse cultures here. Fine. I also understand that one tends to identify with their heritage. Fine. But ---- those initial immigrants worked to become a whole -- not a separate entity. America used to be called a melting pot -- because that is what it was. Folks sought freedom, personal wealth, whatever, and came here to find it. And they didn't do so by being *independant*, as in culture. These days -- I'm hearing that America should be a *salad*, not a *stew*. In a salad, each individual retains their own unique identity, whereas in a stew -- you have to mesh with others -- no unique identity. Not a bad thing --if (as in the past), you *rise above your raisings*. Bit by bit -- I see the armor weakening, that used to be strong and unifying, but it is being undermined daily by folks like these. FYI -- there is a huge battle going on in Mpls/ St. Paul with muslim cab drivers -- but that is another topic entirely. Call me ignorant, call me backwards, call me whatever you want (and this is not to you personally, Oak) --- This is (as usual) -- just an IMO.

Actually --I don't think you are *beating a point into the ground*. Regardless of what one thinks of JAL, to pick words apart (such as have been), is more childish than not (IMO), since it adds NOTHING to the discussion. Sorry folks -- that's the way I feel. I'm here to learn. I want to know what is happening, and I'm gleaning a few things here. BUT --- I don't have time for BS -- regardless of where it comes from (either Pro-CES --- or Anti-CES). There -- I just put my heart out on my sleeve. Rip it off, if you want to. I'm looking for facts, not innuendo. If something substantive is offered -- I'll listen to/ read that. Not nit-picking. Too much of that has happened in the past. -
Trust you, to find a *sick pig*, as an example!!! Ahhhhhh. Got it! ;)

I posted on the other New Year thread that I make one resolution each year, and keep it faithfully come hell or high water. My resolution each year is to make NO OTHER resolutions, other than that one. :)

Try typing in [-img] before the url, and an [-/img] after it. (remove the *-* that I put in there in the tags above, and it should work. It does for me. :)
