  1. Here's a study I once did, and saw it successfully published, before that big fish ran into my surfboard in Hawaii, knocking me headlong (wearing no helmet), into the waves, causing irrepareable brain damage. Had I worn a helmet that day -- I'd still be writing articles like this. But now all I can do is pick banjo & the fiddle. :( Seriously -- THIS ARTICLE speaks of pathologically lying as a mental disorder. I tend to believe it. Working in the group home -- I see lot's of similar *behaviour*. Even the more lucid clients that live there, will tell tall tales about their past, famous folks they have met, etc. -- and believe it themselves. The article I linked (which I didn't write!) ;) speaks of an imbalance in the brain as a cause. While wading through the medical terminology in the link -- I saw a portrait painted of docvic, and some other folks I know here in my home town. I need to look at this further, to see if malice towards others, validation of self, (or whatever), is the main end product. It seems to stem from brain disorder -- and any resut from that cannot be good. Seems some pathological liars are more *adept* at verbiage and "convincibility" (sp?) than most. More "white matter" than "grey matter", making it easier to work hard at lying, and be *successful* at it.

    Super Bowl Ads

Chef -- as your cousin OE would say -- Ayuh! And you're right about the price. 2.4 million is the "going" price for a 30 second ad. If I had 2.4 mil -- I'd spend on something more substantial than a 30 second *quickie* Of course the FIRST $360,000 -- 15% BEFORE TAXES would have to be ABS'ed (or is that abased???), in order to keep a spit-proof hedge of protection around the remaining 85% --- $2,040,000.

    The big event..

Superbowl is Feb 4 (not to be confused with the Fab Four from Liverpool). So it's not the game.

    The big event..

    Is this like one of Raf's countdowns where we guess the event? AND --- is it 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ---; OR --- is it 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0? :)

    Super Bowl Ads

I've heard somewhere (this may or not be true), that the day after the super bowl has one of the highest percetages of all other *holidays*, for folks calling in sick to work. Sunday and monday have been my "weekend" for the past 5 years, so the game is actually being played on "saturday", for me! :)
  6. Let me preface this with a simple statement ---- I believe in God's ability to do, as He has promised. I do NOT believe, that my *believing* (as described by twi), has anything to do with it. The CFF Thread was getting derailed by this, so I thought to start a new one. Over there -- I said this --- For what it is worth -- I regret using some of the ****** words now, from that post. But I'm gonna stand behind it/ them 100% of the way. Whenever I was hurting, or whenever my (then) wife was hurting -- we were told to BELIEVE. Told to go witnessing, told to *abundantly share* -- hey -- we were college kids at the time!!! The *Dinks* (and I use that term (cough!!) politely) there in NK ---- DID NOT HAVE A CLUE, about what real life was like. Where was the *believing* from docvic and Co?? They didn't have to. They MANDATED to the rest of us. I John -- I'm not picking on you in particular -- but your statement about; somehow got my goat, and stuck in my craw. I'm sorry -- but as I pointed out about the *salesman* thing -- docvic wasn't the first to propound this teaching. Undoubtably -- neither will he be the last. Twi used the *LAW* of believing to FIRMLY put their hand around OUR throats, and choke what little life/ money we had left out of us, to their benefit. Now --- Maybe you don't beleive that. Fine. You go to your church, and I'll go to mine. BUT!!! --- Don't ever tell me that the *law of believing* is God's will, and not docvic's. I'll not believe you. If anyone else wants to jump in this topic here -- feel free. I realize it's probably been discussed before ----- but this latest JUNK posted here just riled my dander, and is just that --------------------- THEOLOGICAL JUNK! (edited for spelling)

Kathy --- What's a banGo???????   Quick story (circa 1995) about Ashland, Wisconsin, which is 75 miles from me. Some friends of mine over there wanted to set up a fiddle contest, and they asked me to come to their organizational meeting to offer suggestions, and speak of how it was *done* in other areas. Well -- I spoke my piece (as I'm wont to do), and they took the suggestions to heart. But somewhere along the line -- someone interested in the *equality of all instruments*, decided that it should be more than JUST a fiddle contest. Upshot of it all is -- they decided to use my recommendations for the fiddle contest (it was hugely successful), but decided to also add a banjo and fiddle *duet* category as well. When I heard that -- I wasn't too displeased (since they were sticking to the *genre*), and I thought it might be an added *draw*, for entertainment purposes, for whatever crowd might choose to show up, for the initial, 1st Annual event. Like I said -- the fiddle contest was an absolute success (sadly -- it's now defunct), :( but what I got a HUGE kick out of then -- was the printing on the trophies. Whoever did up the trophies that were to be awarded -- knew how to spell *fiddle* & *banjo*. But when the trophies arrived at the auditorium --- every last one that was to be awarded to the *duet* pickers, were printed up (engraved in metal) --- Fiddle and Bango Duet - 1st place Fiddle and Bango Duet - 2nd place Fiddle and Bango Duet - 3rd place :biglaugh: (In retrospect -- I guess those awards with their mis-spellings might be worth some money now!) It was a huge source of amusement (to all concerned) back then!!

Howdy all. :) Hey -- I received an e-mail from Wolfgang's Vault that had a link to an SRV concert done in Montreal, that's 23 years old (from 1984). If You-Tube is down -- click on this --- SRV Concert, Montreal 8/17/1984] Sorry -- no video offered here -- but plenty of hot licks! ;)
  9. Elephantastic A superlative adjective, used by elephants. Question --- "How was your vacation to the water park??" Answer --- "We had an elephantastic time!!
  10. Harumpppphhh! I got it right off -- G-3 Mac, with 10.9.1 (or something like that) Mac OS, and Firefox as well. Methinks the *short circuit* lies between the typer's chair, and the keyboard!! :P

Banjo rap: Them Banjo Pickers by Mason Williams: "How 'bout them banjo pickers ain't they fine Same damn song for three or four times. Them banjo pickers all they know Is Cumberland Gap and doe-see-doe. Them banjo pickers talking 'bout strings Banjo pegs and other such things. Them banjo pickers, them poker faced mugs They never do smile, they just play Scruggs. You want to be a banjo picker you don't need a ticket Just get yourself a banjo rare back and pick it... " ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chas -- YEA!! Showcasing the Five! Tony Trishka was one the hottest banjo pickers EVER back in the late 1970's. (still is right up there with the best -- but that was his "hey-day"). He could do chromatic picking (ie--note for note fiddle tune stuff), like nobodies business. He and another guy named Bill Keith were pioneers in this aspect of picking. They acually introduced real notes, and scales -- to the rest of us, poor Scruggs-pickers!! ;) Bela -- what can anyone say about him, that doesn't enter the superlative realm??? He is both the Master, and the Masterpiece -- all wrapped up in one. The consumate musician -- regardless of whatever piece he decides to play. And he WON'T perform it on stage -- if he doesn't think he has it totally right. Steve Martin learned banjo with two other (famous) folks in California. One was John McEuen -- of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fame; And the other student was Jerry Garcia -- of the Greatful Dead fame. Could you imagine having those three as students of yours in a banjo class?? There was a time -- when those three were together -- in one room, with the same teacher --- learning banjo (of all things)! And look where they took it . :o :P :o Jerry played banjo on all the Old and in the Way albums (there's two that I know of), and he was a good pedal steel player as well -- with the New Riders of the Purple Sage.
  12. Friscoguy -- I need to amend that last statement. Every last person here is a unique individual. My opinions count just as much as another's do, and as do yours. 'Nother words -- what we all have to say is important. And what each and every one of us here at GSCafe has to say --- is important. Please don't think that your comments will be *dissed*, if they aren't *main-stream*. Lotsa folks here have minds made up already, and many more are open to discussion. More are willing to discuss (than those that are closed), so post away! I'm betting you'll get more positive responses, than negative ones. Give it a try. Welcome to GreaseSpot -- there are no strangers here, just friends we haven't met before. :)
  13. Friscoguy -- I *lost* the popularity award a long time ago.;) But for whatever reason -- folks here still keep me on board! ;)
  14. I posted this to SonofArthur -- on the open forum. Thought it appropriate to post it here too. HERE! are excerpts from One God, and One Lord.
  15. SonofArthur -- you can read excerpts of it HERE!, and save the 29 bucks. :)
  16. Potato -- glad you liked it -- but BEWARE!! That was from Truth or Tradition ( a site owned/ operated by CES). Now maybe you will see why I don't think they are TOTALLY full of hot air. ;)
  17. I agree with RumRunner. That's about as poignant as statement's get around here. Never apologize for speaking the truth. :)
  18. Hello all. :) Not trying to argue, or *convert* anyone --- but I have found THIS PAGE, to be quite enlightening, concerning the *Two Adams*. If nothing else -- it offers food for thought. :)
  19. MARTYYYYYY! THAT DMNED FLUX CAPACITOR ISN'T WORKING!!! GREAT SCOT!!!
  20. I never did go corps --- but did do the University of Life trip. I wanted to help others (like Tom and Ex said), and figured (back then) that the best way to do so -- was to *learn an abundance of the Word*, like the way corps were supposedly getting. I'm REALLY lousy at following orders --- so I didn't want the *regimented* lifestyle of the corps. Looking back now -- it was the best decision I ever made -- to NOT go in. :)

    The Bears

Garth -- the Minney-soda Vikings have been there 5 TIMES, and have lost each time. The only other team with a comparable record, was the Denver Broncos (also 5 and 0 for a superbowl win)-- when they finally broke that losing streak.
