Since when did women need "rescuing"???? I'm not sure if I'm "liberated" or not, but I am a strong, single woman who is feminine and pretty traditional in my thinking about gender roles. But, geez, I earn a living, pay my bills, raise my child, shovel snow, cut the lawn, clean the house, etc., etc. And, although I am attracted to strong, intelligent, self-confident, self-sufficient men who have their own interests or hobbies, I certainly am not looking to be rescued. -->

HCW: Before I start, let me also welcome you to the cultfe and thank you for being so open with us in your first postings here. This thread has certainly been a thought provoking one... You said: I agree. I'm a NoCal girl who got involved in '73 and the folks I hung with were definitely moving with God. People were led into tongues on the street, we openly shared Christ (vs. PFAL)with others, I witnessed healings, etc. We were family and "titles" didn't mean a lot. We heard now and then stories of Limb guys and VP who were coming on to girls (I had it happen to me with one of ours) and you just wrote it off as just one person who was "tripped out" or totally unbelievable for a MOG. And coming out of the hippie generation and being sexually active myself, you just made excuse after excuse. I do think God was waving the red flag over and over again til He finally put it away cuz we couldn't hear over all the group noise (good analogy). By the late 70s, early 80s we were some of the few non-Corps who were Branch Leaders and boy were we treated differently than the Corps grads!!! This is about the time Bo went into the Sloan Fellowship at Stanford. The corporate stuff was observable right around that time. Then the 8th Corps came on the field and the new position of "Area Coordinators" came about and a whole new corporate structure came about. These guys were "administrators" with the 3-piece suits and briefcases, etc. We got tired of fighting it after a while - - it was kinda like running full steam into a brick wall - - and finally started conforming. We waited a long time to go into the Corps and finally did, cuz we were bound and determined (like others here) to change it from the inside - - HA! You're right, HCW - - -a number of us pushed back. Concurrent classes??? Special reports??? More and more big meetings taking more and more of our time....We fought back until we were blue in the face. And on the local scene, a twig guy physically abusing people -- yeah, we got involved and got the police involved. Another guy was abusing his wife. Yeah, we called the cops for protection and packed her stuff and moved her to a safe place. But, like you, I came out of a family background where I had this kind of stuff thrust on me and did not live in "The Way Bubble" like some others - - so I wasn't afraid to insist that these guys pay for their actions. But the totalitarian nature of the org did get to us. In behavioral science it's called "group think" and the peer pressure gets to you and you eventually start down a path until you don't recognize yourself anymore. I've been out since '89 and have taken Board training (as in Board of Directors) for 501c3 nonprofit leadership. It amazed me that it is REQUIRED that a public record be taken of all board meetings and is SUPPOSED TO BE available to the public. Financial records are supposed to be reviewable by "members" (maybe that's how they got around it, there were only 3 "members" in twi) and each board member has a fiduciary responsibility to report any monkey business or they can be named in a lawsuit for their negligence. So, I'm with you. I'll never be a part of an organization again unless there is that kind of accountability and transparency. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Good questions and good answers on this thread. Thanks again for being you. J.

I'm with you on that one, Hammie. Our winter is just getting underway here in Hoosier-ville. 6-8" expected overnight. Woo hoo! Bring out the sleds! J. ;)-->

This one's for Excie: I was always taught to have such perfect respect for my teachers (like a good Catholic girl).... ...but in 7th grade, I shoved a nun into the blackboard for speaking disrespectfully to me about my mother. So there, Sister Patrice! :P--> J.

you is funny, shell :D-->

Sounds good, Herbie. Might as well invite, Alfakat, Socks, Jim, Mark and all the other of us NoCal folks and have a party! O.K., we're finished goofing now. Back to your regularly scheduled thread. :)--> J.

Watch out for Shellon in her boots ;)--> O.K., some more: - I LOVE to cook (and love to eat even more and amazingly I'm not fat, though like a lot of people nearly 50, I could stand to tone up). - My specialty is, natch, Mexican food - - recipes that my abuela taught me to make - - carnitas, chile verde. - I'm a purist when it comes to dessert - - if it's not chocolate, it's not dessert - - the richer and decadent, the better; although I love apple pie and pumpkin pie around the holidays. - I love to smoke an occasional good Cuban cigar. - I hate to make beds - - carryover from anal-retentive parents who used to make such a big deal about perfect, military style bedmaking - - I do the big down comforter thing now and, on a good day, pull it up to the pillows and fluff a bit just for good measure ;)--> - I love to wear lipstick and even in my sloppiest moments, stop to put some on, much to the dismay of my son :P--> - Although I listen to all types of music, my FAVORITE music is big band and swing. It's the happiest music I've ever heard and often can be seen tapping around the kitchen making breakfast on weekends listening to the Count, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, etc. - (some of you know this already) I have two wonderful sons who are the pride and joy of my life - - although I'm ready for both to get haircuts :D--> J.
-
ROR: Sour dough and gallileo salami :D--> I'll bring the merlot. Miss you. J.

I'm with you there, Steve!-o!!!! So glad to have the rose-colored glasses off and very little discernable waybrain! J.

I stumbled upon Greasespot a couple of years ago when I was doing a search for the Indiana Campus to see if I could get a transcript sent to the college I was applying to (go ahead, you can laugh at my expense about the transcript....) :D--> :P--> When I saw all the other twi references, I started reading and couldn't believe my eyes when I first came here. I had heard about some of the loy stuff and the lawsuits thru the grapevine, but had been long gone when that stuff was going on, so reading about it here was kind of morbid curiousity. I was in twi from '73-89, wow, corps grad, the whole bit and always tried to figure out what the hell went so terribly wrong. Been here ever since having the dots connected for me and gathering my voice and thank many of you who have been here since the Waydale days for sticking around and helping some of us less frequent posters understand. Muchas gracias. J.

Thanks for bringing this up, Shell. I lost a sister two years ago because she KNEW she was pre-cancerous and was AFRAID to go back when she KNEW her condition was worsening. She lost the battle to colon cancer (which our mother also died of 20 years earlier)which is DETECTABLE, DIAGNOSABLE, and TREATABLE if people will just go in and get checked and follow up!!!! Now my only other sister (who's overweight and in poor health) will NOT get her but in to have a colonoscopy (She's 51)and her daughters and I are about to WRING HER NECK! And yes, BTW, I had mine done when my sis was diagnosed and have a clean bill of health. Am supposed to get mine checked every three years (due to the family history), so I'm due this year. On the women's OB/GYN stuff, I ALWAYS see a female doctor who specializes in wellness and prevention. The nurse/midwives and nurse/practitioners I've seen are WONDERFUL and much more thorough than ANY male doctor I've seen. But, that's just my experience and preference. Good topic, Shell. thanks. J.

Hi Nika: I lived in AZ (near Simon) for 10 years and absolutely LOVED going to the Desert Museum. Did you get to visit all the hummingbirds? We used to have over 10 varieties that frequented our backyard. Glad to hear you had such a nice visit. J.

I haven't posted in a while, but had so much fun reading these, I thought I'd chime in: - My mom's family came from Spain in the late 1700's on a Land Grant to settle New Mexico. They came through New Orleans and settled Corrales, NM. Still live in the area. - My sons are in the midst of a hair-growing contest - - who can grow the biggest afro. The younger one is ahead with about a 7 inch afro, though we suspect, if the older one actually combed his, he might be ahead. :D--> - Chuck: being an old SF Bay Area girl myself, I used to watch Mayor Art religiously! My sister went on the show also. - My sister and I exchanged middle names as our confirmation names, so she got my "Marie" and I got stuck with her "Clare" :P--> More later. J. P.S. Rottie, nice to see you back!

And there have been a number of quakes in and around Japan in the past few months. Gee, now they are saying the death toll is around 100,000. How very tragic.

Ricardo is remarried and still living in Argentina. The only person I've heard of who is still in contact with him is Johnny Townsend who lives in Beavercreek, Ohio. J.

Oh, Grandma Oak, how wonderful for you too! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO! J.
-
Oak: That is SUCH great news! Hopefully, with all the "regrouping" you have done in your life since leaving TWI and your experiences here on GSC, you will be able to help your children fill in some blanks, connect some dots and find out what really happened in certain situations relating to your family. Thanks for sharing that and best of luck reclaiming your family! J.

As she said, Hammy, that wouldn't have phased CG one iota. J.
