MStar: Sounds like wonderful fun! One of these days I'll make it that direction and do the whole trail! Ala: Good to see ya! One of my summer plans (one of these years) is to attend the Montreal Jazz Fest -- so when I finally get that far, I'll call ya! Yesterday I went over to my parents...and there's Denis in the livingroom...playing, my mom on her mandolin and the jam session started.... that was about 2:00 pm Then later on my sister joins us and her husband... she did some singing, her husgand joined in on the guitar and the jam session went on til 9:30 - 10:00 pm...we stopped to eat and started right up again...what a hoot.

She abandoned me in college to pursue her music career (go figure) and from about '74 on, she's been playing all over Oakland, Berkeley and SF - - and now around the Monterey Bay area. She's sending me her new CD, so I'll let you know what I think. I'm with ya on the ToP FUNK :) J.

I took my older aunt to midnight mass out in Calif. a few years ago and was surprised how "Protestant" the church had become! This had a large mix of Filipinos who had an interesting mix of charasmatic background and "handwaving". Great music. Thoughtful prayer. Nothing like what I experienced in the 60s and early 70s. My son attends a Catholic high school and we find it to be very ecumenical, welcoming of diverse faiths and very Christ centered. The teachers/administration model what they teach, which I find to be quite refreshing. He's in an O.T. Hebrew Scriptures class taught by a guy who's a former Eastern Orthodox priest with 2 doctorates in Hebrew scriptures and O.T. history - - definitely learning much more than I ever have about the O.T.! So, I'd have to ditto the others - - if you feel comfortable there, go for it, Cheffie. J.

Wow, good stuff. Actually, I forgot, I did see someone in July - - Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straights / Nottingham Hillbillies fame). Not sure if his Shangri-La tour is still going on, but definitely worth the price of admission. Awesome talent - - gruff voice, quiet understated performance - - but you definitely knew you were sitting in listening to someone at the top of their game. He also played some cuts from Sailing to Philadelphia CD; cool stuff, too. Had a chance to see an old video of Knopfler and Chet Atkins (Neck & Neck album) - - two masters; worth finding if you're also an Atkins fan as I am. Socks, thanks for the Ted Green tip; sounds like my kinda jazz. I'll pass on the heavy sounds, but will check out Leisz - - sounds interesting. Speaking of Taylor, I'm trying to get tickets to Carly Simon's concert here on 12/3 and their kids, Ben & Sally Taylor are opening for their mom. Should be fun to hear their sound. likeaeagle: seems we like the same sounds :) Mstar Sounds like great stuff being played on the Appalachian Trail. Would love to be a fly on the wall for some of those sessions. David Miller would probably love to join you if he lived closer! I bet its a kick to listen to that old mountain music too. You are such a student of regional music. B) Oh yeah, Socks - - speaking of Tower of Power -- I was catching up with my old Bay Area high schoo/college roommate who's now in Santa Cruz area - - her solo career is really taking off after years of opening for Tower and other good names; most recently Leon Russell. Well, I admit it....I'm in a music lull. Haven't gone to a concert or heard anyone new for over 6 mos., so I wanted to know who you went to see this summer/fall??? Who are you listening too? What's new? Socks? Mstar???? Hope?????? Bueller?????? J.

Well, the local Comcast company here was AWFUL to deal with - - took forever to install, way overpriced, wrong rates on the bill, then would demand you pay first before they looked at the bill. Would not turn my cable OFF until I returned their box - - only open from 9-5 weekdays, so I wasn't going to take off work to drop off a box across the city - - OR I could ship it back to them on my dime. I finally (very nicely ;) ) convinced them that if they could drop it off, they could pick it up, though that took them a month to do. I finally switched to my phone company (SBC) and get phone, cell, DSL and satellite in a package which saves me a bundle and it's auto billing, so I don't even have to write a check which I love. When I have had to call in for help or questions, they are wonderful to deal with. J.

Down to 30 degrees here in Indy tonight, but no white stuff yet :) J.

Well, I waited a long time til I went in - - so it was F-11 in 1984 - - and by then, the Way Corp brochure had been updated to read "Preparation for a Lifetime of Christian Service". Whenever we heard Corps promotions, we heard people discussing that it was for people who were wanting training for the vocation of doing ministry work the rest of their lives. So for us, it was no surprise. We signed up cuz at that point in our lives, that's what we were all about. Actually now - - even though I'm not with that organization - - it's STILL what my life is all about. J.

MIT / Linda: My heart hurts reading what you posted above, but I am so glad to hear that you have found a 12 Step program to help you on your life's journey. Many of us here have experienced childhood abuses, addiction problems and/or some horrible experiences in twi that left major holes in our hearts upon leaving the organization finally. Some have found 12 step programs, counseling, volunteering in non-profits, going back to finish an education, family support - - and yes, even a good, supportive church - - to be helpful in providing a compass back to some sense of "normalty". Everyone's place in life, age, family situation and twi experience was different - - but many of us "regulars" have found great help and refuge in our participation on Greasespot as a place to learn, heal, sort, vent, heal, vent, sort some more, understand and sometimes be understood, and sometimes just to read and know. So, welcome here. Please know that there are others here who have experienced very difficult journies as well and wish to offer some comfort and hospitality here - - even if there are some who will never "get" what our journies are all about. Some of us DO understand, are pained by the like suffering that has been expressed and try, in our own ways, to offer support. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself. J.
