  1. Hello Alfie, dear ~ Miss seeing you around these parts, but had to pop in to wish you a Happy birthday! Wow! you don't look over a half century old! (tee hee) Give my love to my namesake Miss you both! J. P.S. Was just out in Calif. and thought of you guys, but just couldn't get up your way. Happy 2006. Tell the twins I said hi!
  2. Hi Danny, Thanks for all the references. I'll give them a look and see if I can piece it all together at some point (non-academic that I am) J.
  3. Happy Birthday, Z! Hope it's a great one! J.
  4. Gee, thanks, Andy It was really a lot of fun to see those statues - - my cousin must have the shot we took of McCovey - - I'll get that one too. Yeah, those were the days growing up as a Giants' fan in the Bay Area with "Say hey, Willie Mays" and the gang. Then those rascally A's came to town and BART went right to the Coliseum, so that became our new team of choice (plus being an Oakland girl anyway). My MOM of all people, was the huge baseball fan in our family, so we went to A's games back in the day of Catfish Hunter, Reggie, Rollie - - and even that bad boy Rickey Henderson. It was huge fun (always is when your team is winning) Tried to get into the Reds when I lived in Cincinnati, but just never could get behind any of their sorry teams. But here in Indy, we have a AAA team, the Indians, who have the coolest stadium (Victory Field)- - if you ever are in town - - it is a must visit here; and will take you right back to your childhood watching baseball. So the boy and I have really enjoyed going since we've been here. J. PS. Hola Tom
  5. Hi Wino..............er, I mean Rhino Happy New Year! I'm back from Calif. and while my mind was on vacation, I read Danny's post and of course, did not understand his point, but thank you for jumping in and trying to save me from the deutero-Pauline psuedo Marconian crowd. And anyone who calls me a young, innocent babe is O.K. in my book ;) J.
  6. That's too funny! ....but you still look great for being 100 J.
  7. Yes, Ex. This has been a very difficult thread to read as the longer we stayed in, the more depression, abuse, etc. we witnessed. I think Rascal expresses some sentiments that many of us who really did idealistically stay in twi because we thought we were "helping people" felt in our own inadequacy to really help or receive revelation or understand the supposed spiritual significance of nearly anything that was really going on. Why was it our God who was so loving didn't show us in multi-media full-color revelation what was going on. It is heartbreaking. Not only did we need help, but we inadvertently probably contributed to people's pain by our well-meant bible magic -- just renew your mind and it'll all be better in the morning. Sigh. Anyway, Ex said: The reason that statement stood out was because of the family time I just spent in Calif. over the holidays. I've shared briefly on previous posts about my childhood with a physically violent father who eventually nearly killed me as a teenager and my purpose for my comment wasn't to bring that up, but because I spent some time talking with a cousin of mine discussing our childhood. My cousin is a psychologist (mid-40s) who was also raised in a violent household, was also estranged from her family (by choice) for some years, and now is doing geneological research on our family. She met with me because our family was broken apart by divorce, alcohol and the effects of the violence where we went our own ways and have only recently gotten back together. She's trying to piece together our stories and what we remember about our family's history, etc. But back to Ex's statement about denial. When I was unable to remember entire periods of time while she and I were talking, we got into a whole discussion of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I know, Ex, that there are some who still view twi thru their rose-colored glasses and are in total denial that anything other than utopia happened in twi. I do think though that many of us, as we are healing (from many things), are closer to manifesting symptoms of PTSD. My cousin was quick to note the detachment both she and I describe experiences with. It's hard to feel those feelings of trauma, anguish, confusion - - and so we relate some of our stories almost as a third party observer... Anyway, not sure what my point was except that denial word jumped out to me and I think it's more the brain's way of burying stuff that was traumatic until such time as we can (or maybe never can) receive healing in that area - - and not so much a deliberate decision to deny the reality of what we lived. Thank you ladies for sharing here. My cousin and I wept together as we shared some of our stories and I recognize how difficult it must be to discuss some of this here. Love to you. J.
  8. Wow! I knew there were lots of celebrations going on all around the world, but now I know why! Half of Greasespot folks are celebrating birthdays today - - and our Socks is among them! Soooooooo, happy birthday, dear Socks! Hope you, the wife, the girl, the boy and the pets have a wonderful day of fun. Thanks for the musical, humorous and other serious (?).....(o.k. thoughtful might be a better word) perspective you bring to the Spot. J. PS. You look GREAT for 100!
  9. Hi Danny ~ You said in part O.K., now since neither I nor any of my uncles are not even remotely considered NT scholars, could you make your point in simple terms for the non-theological historians among us? I know (in a nutshell) a little about Marcion (2nd century), started a sect and had some conflict between what was said of God in the Hebrew scriptures and what was being propounded by followers of Jesus and then developed an interpretation of the NT God for his followers based on the canon of the Pauline epistles. Yes? So are you saying you are in agreement with Marcion's teachings (I'm sure if I read more in the doctrinal section, I'd know where you were coming from)? What are the pseudo-Pauline "pastoral epistles" to which you refer that are recognized to be forged? Are you saying that vpw's teaching that the Bible is infallible and God-breathed, etc. are based on those forgeries and that's why his teachings are warped? Not challenging you here, just trying to read English and understand your point. Thanks, J.
  10. O.K. Let's see if I can do this. Here's me and Juan, my uncle and I in front of SBC Park, Willie Mays bottom and top (couldn't fit it all in my camera view). J.
  11. Hi John!!!!! I'm sure you have PLENTY of excitement to keep you amused over there in the sandbox. And me??? Well, the boy and I just returned from 10 days in Northern and Southern California on our worldwind visit family, friends, eat, drink and be relaxed tour :) and just got in about 4:00 a.m. this a.m. thanks to Delta delays, etc. - - so we are just vegging with a bunch of movies, a big pot of homemade soup and other and assorted goodies and will ring in the new years together with our sweet little pooch, Oliver, who missed us so much while we were gone and has not left my side since we walked in the door. So Happy New Year to you all - - and John, may you return stateside soon to stay. Good bye 2005 and hello 2006 - - may it be a year with far fewer natural and manmade disasters - - and be one where we are much more loving and kind to those we love and those who need love in our world. J.
  12. Happy Holidays, sports fans! I just got back from 10 days in Calif. visiting and playing :) But my very favorite day was when my uncle and cousin took me to San Francisco (hadn't been in about 5 years) to drive around. My cousin is buying property with a partner in an area under redevelopment right near the Giants' new SBC Stadium which I had not seen yet. So I had to get out and look around cuz the last time I went to a Giants' game was when they played at Candlestick. So who do I see bronzed and bigger than life outside the stadium???? My own childhood baseball heros - - Howard Willie Mays, Jr. - - Willy McCovey - - Juan Marichel!!!!!! My uncle and I got out and took pics, which if I ever download them from my phone camera to my computer I'll post for you to see. It was very cool and nostalgic. Wow - - I guess I'm really dating myself by even knowing those three names, eh????? ;) Carry on and Happy New Years to you all. J.
  13. Well, the boy and I are heading out to Calif. in the morning for 9 glorious days of family, friends and fun (well, three will be fun with the friends) (just kidding!) Sooooooo, although we normally go all out with decorating fun and cut down a "real" tree, etc. - - this year we decided on a "Charlie Brown Humble" tree and bought a little 18" tall live potted tree that already came with ornaments and we'll put a great big one on the top so it leans over a bit (hence, "humble"). :D I won't be checking in much over the holidays, so Merry Christmas / Happy Chanukah to all!!!! J.

    Live Chat

Hi Paw: I just tried it out under "jardinero" and it said I required a password. I put in a password and it told me it was not a valid user name, etc. and to try another name. So I tried my real name and clicked no passwork required as the window popped up and still wouldn't let me in. What gives? J.
  15. Oh yeah - - pink tutus - - that does it for me! J.
  16. Whitedove said: I used to receive Chris' newsletters when I first left twi. If I remember correctly, Doveman, one of the lawsuits was over copyrights and ownership of the PFAL class. One of his letters reflected that never in a million years did he ever think that in carrying out what vpw supposedly commissioned him to do would involve having to re-record a class to replace PFAL. And there he found himself, following a bitter legal battle with the evil and carnal trustees - - now having yet another burden thrust upon himself - - a burden to record a class series. After that happened, subsequent letters were just too painful for me to read anymore. He seemed to be more and more hurt, bitter, burdened. He seemed to be more and more isolated and he seemed (to me) to come across as some type of martyr - - that he alone was carrying out the true ministry of the Word - - isolated, alone, with little resources - - just Barbara and the girls to help him with the enormity of work left to do. After a few more of those letters, I never wanted to receive any more. I was involved in other Christian ministries and visiting churches that were much more uplifting, fruitful and joyous than anything I was experiencing with twi, ex-twi splinter groups, or especially from heavy, sullen reports from the Geer family. I've met Chris and Barbara and have nothing ill to say of them, but his brand of Christianity is just not for me. Life is too short and God is too good to have to be subjected to that kind of heaviness, IMHO. J.
