  1. With a Bachellors in mostly applied mathematics, sylvan learning was *almost* interested in me, to tutor students.. interesting. With *almost* a Master's.. the local community college would turn me loose on how many students.. I am four credits away. what I would really like to do at this community college.. not just teach math, but as faculty, support some kind of amateur radio club.. it takes faculty backing to do something like this, and this local college DEFINITELY is interested in technology. Even old technology, that is relevant..
  2. In a sense I am too. that is a self-taught engineer. I'm supposed to be an electronics "expert". That was from the mouth of a retired electronics specialist (don't know if that is the accurate name of his title) who served on a nuclear submarine.. I could still draw the schematic of a hartley, or colpitts oscillator.. or easily recognize it. one is because of a tapped coil for feedback, the other is for a tap between series capacitors for the same feedback.. does anybody even know what crystals are nowadays? Then there are years of work in consumer electronics. Computers.. hardware, software.. If I didn't go back to school. I would today be unemployable..

Yeah.. it was a Doctor Who episode.. Louise Jameson was the savage.. yeah. If you can hit the mark about 10 kazillion times, that would fix everything.. very, very interesting.. I love fiction. :)

There are about what.. a few hundred thousand or more who will step up to fill the vacuum.. reminds me of an old science fiction series.. it takes prodigious aim to throw a knife into the breath hole in the back of the neck.. glorious? Now if one could just hit the same mark about ten million times more..

he was a living soul.. as bad as he was, with my feeble analysis of the situation I can't rejoice. On one hand I can't excuse the horrific end of his plot.. on the other I can't rejoice in his death..
  6. Retire? In 3 and 1/2 years? You are lucky, friend..
  7. how come da way couldn't follow suit here.. what was it they called, and (curiously) abhorred.. situational ethics?
  8. for once I was right.. any other then present option, and I'd be jobless.. and unemployable. even if I don't complete the requirements for the degree this summer.. I will be only one credit away. I am gambling, heavily. That this country wants to rebuild.. we have how many veterans coming back from war.. they will need math proficiency..
  9. so, what "power" does their certificate imbue one with? I have one degree and almost another that implies that I have a significant understanding of mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and computer science.. what does theirs imply? believe me, I'm thankful for what I have. I have.. the promise of a *real* job this fall.. Well. I just have to somehow be able to live through the summer. anybody here want, or need to adopt a 54 year college student?

so the "successor" is a surgeon, i.e. a "healer". I hope he doesn't forget the oath he took.. i.e., "do no harm"..

my friend here would say.. it is (was) a problem that seventy five cents wouldn't solve.. I'm sorry. Despite American ingenuity and resolve, I could not rejoice in the death of a soul. I'm glad it went off as quiet as it did..

Now that I've had a couple of days to think about this.. Who is the "worst" element of the prison? Not the inmates, in my opinion. I'm not minimizing their offences or anything, oh no. We have a governor (with a small g) here, that (un-gender slap in face implied) seems to think the budget is well more served with funding for prisons than education.. so he is insuring a steady flow of uneducated and unskilled "clients" for his "big business".. I'm not indicting any particular party here, lest this discussion be moved to soap opera. what are they going to do with the thousands of veterans returning from the war in Afghanistan? The "worst element" are the keepers. And no, I don't mean hired security guards.. I can't say capital punishment is inappropriate. But why is it used as a tool to raise the cheers (or jeers) of the populace.. "whoo hoo. we *Got* him.." So the western world has spent what. How many hundreds of millions of dollars to dispense justice in the case of one man? Victory? Another "victim" stepped up to the same plate.. who is his brutish successor? Can't remember the name..

Then there was Prometheus. Chained to a rock, to have his liver eaten out by ravens, only to have it grow back every day. His crime.. he gave fire back to man..

I dunno. Doesn't capital punishment render judgement that one's existence here, for whatever reason, is useless? depending on your particular belief.. what if "this" was a death sentence, one lifetime, after another.. maybe that would be a more merciful sentence.. One gigantic shot of Demerol and God knows what..
  15. Just curious. Before Opera Buff rebuffs me for the scientific inaccuracy of on-line poles.. maybe I'm just trying to figure out how uneducated the average wayfer really was.. current innies. You may want to look around and ask the same question.. The instructions for the pole. It is (or was) you level of education during your twi experience.
  16. Silly? my name is what I am, a Ham.. why do the demographics show the majority are going to grad school. Maybe that is just where the path is leading.. try doing mathematics at 54 years old.. well, I won't "retire".. I wish I had a few more friends..
  17. why couldn't he just stick at what he is good at.. no, the students he helps will never with devoted subservience call him "da mog".. it's a weird life. one takes what one is given.. I taught four semesters of intermediate algebra. The first semester, you are plain awful. Horrible. none of the other teaching assistants ever admitted it. But all of them, were as horrible, as I was.. The last semester.. the students started calling me "professor".. the title is earned. in da way, it was assumed.. probably the same today.
  18. even if one gauges the age by their self-proclaimed beginning of what.. 1942. they are just entering puberty.. in the big scheme of things, anyway..
  19. Or one which has not yet learned diplomacy..
  20. Maybe I've out done myself here but I am humbled by the more relevant and historic saying:
  21. That is less than four, or five hundred years old. Preferably older. They have.. already demoralized, assaulted, denigrated and done worse to their very own followers.. robbed.. etc. Well then, you know exactly what to expect, don't you?
  22. I dunno. Everything is a scam.. just some more self-serving than others.. we just chose badly..

    brain games

not bad for a math Squirrel. One of the questions was flawed. He could not appoint *additional* justices who agreed with him, until some retired, or died.. I couldn't find a right answer in any of the choices.
