anybody know how these words .. sailed into modern usage? I mean current usage.. I think there is a current distinction between Chairos and Kronos.
-
I dunno.. to make such a distinction, one would almost have to time travel back to ancient Greece, learn the language.. modern analysis is fine.. but limited I think.. sometimes it looks for a pattern that is simply not there..

Tonight might be a good night for me to put on Brain Salad Surgery, plug in the headphones.. Roll up, roll up, roll up, see The Show....... I hope the show does not end up charging admission to see a single blade of grass..

seems to be the counting of the votes. Let's keep this *political* discussion "open" and not "political".. after a day or so it will die anyway. just a few observations. It's really fascinating. The media has sprung to life.. I see "correspondents" that I haven't seen for over half a year.. maybe not even for four years.. I don't see the real attraction here. Viewers of the proceedings.. almost seem addicted.. almost like watching a rising and diminishing balance on a slot machine at the local casino.. the results go blue hurray! (or *bummer*, depending on your opinion..) then the results go red.. hurray!! (or bummer, depending on your opinion..) Personally, I wouldn't mind having to wait two or three weeks to hear the results.
-
I dunno. I don't "despise prophecies" or some such.. it's just.. positive, continuously repeated words of affirmation do not necessarily equal prophecy..
-
I think it just produces modern nuttiness. I'm not saying nuttiness is technically *wrong* or anything.. there are reasons I will not go anywhere within earshot of an offshoot's Sunday Night Service or some such.. it's always the SAME. Even the "manifestations".. they never change.. they are always the same.. same useless drivel. Same "positive" interpretations and words of "prophecy".. modern, phony counterfeit practice seems to produce the same result, one time after another.. fine if that is your cup of tea. I've graduated to another level of nuttiness..

Unofficial results for KB8PGW: Band QSO's Points 160 0 0 80 36 72 40 89 178 20 57 114 15 25 50 10 7 14 ---------------------- Total 214 428 X 61 Multipliers = 26,108. The score may be slightly less, because with modern computer log checking. Almost every error in exchanging a report will be found and deleted from the final score. Still, for less than five watts output and a very crummy antenna, the score might be quite an accomplishment.. The bands were amazingly crowded from one end to the other, stations calling on top of each other, and the contest was Morse Code ONLY. Who says Morse is dead? I missed 20 sections this time. Some years there is no one at all operating in a particular section. So no clean sweep mug for me.. I could hear a station in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Hawaii, but they could not hear me. No Alberta Canada, or Northwest Territories, or Saskatchewan. No stations heard in Alaska either.

but they are married.. either is is a couple made in heaven, or in the other place..

The algebra of complex numbers is only really another explanation of trignometry.. really.. along with rules for adding and multiplying vectors.. lots of other stuff.. In a "religious" sense.. trignometry is the beautiful, female deity. The algebra of complex numbers is the brute force method, only offered by the male deity..
-
and I don't know why it is. A *tad* too much, and I don't do any much more than either go over the logical, or religious deep end. I stand by my claim: if you consider the fourth root of unity, it includes i. Tonight we considered the square root of i..
-
I mean.. it is readily apparent, isn't it? i*i*i*i equals unity. so the fourth root of unity, must include i.. there is one guy in the back of the room.. that waits for this kind of insight.. bored out of his skull, otherwise..
-
I can't pretend to accomplish the same cinematic success of Asimov.. but I showed a few intermediate algebra students that (one of the) fourth roots of 1 is i. it really is weird, but it is..
-
I still can't vote here. I'm been given a choice between a lesser, and a greater evil.. too bad I can't choose no evil.. Has anyone here seen nightfall by Asimov.. religion (by it's own choice) ended up on the wrong side of things.. I watched this in my Way Days.. and it still spoke to me..

I have at least three outlandish stories, experienced personally in the last decade. I do not ask anyone else to *accept* them.. One is an insane(?) see the light story.. another one was a "bad trip" in wal*mart.. several outlandish experiences in childhood, as vivid today as then.. sometimes I like to go places, or to come to places, to compare notes, so to speak..
-
That is very clever.. :)

This weekend the event is CW only. Morse Code. They offer awards if you make certain kinds of contacts.. one is if you make 100 or over confirmed contacts with other participants. Then you can purchase a pin for $5.00. then there is the clean sweep award.. make a contact with a ham in every ARRL or RAC (Canada) section and you can purchase a VERY fancy coffee mug. I generally always get the pin, but never the mug. If someone would adopt me, give me room to erect an antenna farm, and help install a lot of really nice, high power radio gear, I could *probably* end up being able to buy the mug.
-
sheesh.. don't worry.. at least you didn't (potentially) violate FERPA or something.. that's professional suicide, in the circles I'm involved in.. but.. maybe the consequences would be to answer the question submitted to the President. ['][p

http://www.arrl.org/sweepstakes they don't always document where this kind of frenzied craziness comes from. The article here says that the event came from a very small radio activity where other hams wished Hiram Percy Maxim a happy birthday. that was a long time ago.. I will get on the air, and run a station very low power. Ham speak it is called QRP, five watts or less. Add to that a cheap, crummy antenna..

Raf, this is worker (ahem, poster) speaking.. why does the porridge bird lay his eggs in the air? hmm. At least we can close B close schmoe on moderator Dan. sowy.. at least when I go "tilt" I can amuse myself. Anyone else?

*elevator music playing* *door closing, in five seconds.* "ah, pluck the duck.."
-
I was wondering.. I mean, 71 pages? how long before someone declared some kind of impasse.. Raf.. how is it you can start a topic, and get 71 pages of responses.. I start one, and get less than a dozen responses, and generally less than three pages? I'm jealous.. well, no, not jealous. Something HAD to get you on the trail here.. I had close to something like that happen in a political science class.. once, long ago.. before the u.s. citizens really had a REASON to worry about trade with China.. "well. we can't afford the blue ray thingy.. the cheap computer, etc.. except at wal*mart.." that was their response.. forget unbridled pollution of a foreign land.. decimation of competition on a global scale.. my answer- don't BUY the damned thing. you really don't have a logical or legitimate *need* to view old stinking movies in super high definition..

They can all be formed with two pieces of currency, no less.
-
Of course not.. The offsprings of twi continue this.. *we* are *priviledged* * "to know* there were not just two, but.. two other malefactors + thieves to share his same fate.. which supposedly equal four. personally.. I'm not in this category. I'm an innocent bystander.. a publican (on the government payroll) and a sinner..
-
maybe we only disagree as regards to semantics.. one is a spiritual interpretation.. the other is an honest interpretation.. why can't they both be the same..

Math is cool. In a couple of cases.. I've been able to know that I know.. something, abstract. Abstract is a generalization of reality.. something real.. Abstract knowledge extends your horizons..
