  1. Perhaps the biggest con.. the huckster was able to convince us (or a lot of us) that it was "revelation" to go wow, corps, give a significant portion of one's income to a half-baked scheme that really didn't need the money.. that (in at least some cases) it was gawd's will to abandon friends and family.. I think everybody has to trust somebody..

    Fedora 10

cd ../ cd root and I get: Permission denied. Any other directory I can view the files. Shouldn't I be able to log in as a super user or something?
  3. I'm glad you enjoyed it.. I think anyway.. at least it is certainly colourful..
  4. but where does one choose.. The problem is.. with the dissolution of deity.. we've got a whole army of committees to bargain with... I don't know which is worse..
  5. Yes, from what I've read.. it might just be fiction.. I probably will never find the reference.. but a part of "God" had to die for this universe to come into being.. not unlike the Christian doctrine of redemption.. something perfect had to die to atone for whatever it is.. the coming age, eternal life..
  6. Ya.. but it cost Him.. lots.. Jewish mysticism.. the way I read it.. it cost him the same kind of sacrifice, not unlike the costs of redemption"..
  7. No.. I think he's everywhere.. wasn't an option before..
  8. The fourth doctor broke the core of the key to time when the tardis was in the vortex.. scattering the key throughout time and space.. I'd like to meet some of the writers..
  9. I watched a lot of Doctor Who.. It was a "power".. to great for a being to possess.. Did you follow the key to time subseries? "It" ended ip being scattered through time.. Yeah, I know it's fiction.. but sometimes its the best we have..
  10. I think.. most of us can remember the separation from the "perfection" or whatever one might call it.. it was like death.. jumping into a vortex, not knowing where one might emerge.. well.. these are a few impressions I had when I was very young.. might be nothing to it..
  11. Oh no. It didn't.. at the time.. if one can call it that..
  12. I tend to agree with some "mysticism".. In the beginning, there was one God.. or Deity. And it was boring. Everything was perfect.. what do we (I) do today.. I'll check with the weatherman (me).. well, weather is perfect today.. hmm. what now.. I think it was that way for a long, long time.. Then came the big bang..
  13. I wouldn't consider it a celebration of death, or even that of one individual as such.. maybe a time of change, which many were unprepared for.. I remember a friend saying something like he couldn't die.. renewed mind and all.. I wonder how my friend feels now.. When I leave this existence.. I hope they have a party.. Not that I'd give them a good reason for it.. :biglaugh:
  14. That would make very very many "Gods", wouldn't it? :)
  15. Anybody else play with it? My first impression.. I like it.. far better than Vista.. I loaded the 32 bit version on an old computer first. It was sluggish, but functional. But on a newer 1200 mhz celeron setup it flies.. Now. What can I do with it? I'd like to do some C or C++ programming and such with it.. but where's the C? It seems to have command line tools in the terminal. I'm quite acquainted with the file systems and commands for dos. Are there any substantial differences with lynix? And I'd like to look at the root file system. Even though I know the root password, it won't let me do it.. no, I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot. At worst, I'd have to reload the operating system.. finally, the wireless usb card. Is there any hope of getting it to work? I have a linksys dual band plugin unit, along with an appropriate wireless router.. and I have a physical drive D I'd like to do something with. During installation, it asked if I wanted to format the media. I chose both drive C and D (from DOS terms) and I don't seem to be able to access drive D. From the desktop, Fedora tells me there are no media that I have the privileges to mount. What's up with that? Maybe more questions later..
  16. Has anybody ever considered that date for a wienie roast or gs get together?
  17. When I first started reading here, I found it rather refreshing to see real people get in a food fight of sorts..
  18. I'd be suprised if they didn't try to sell it at auction.. *"slightly" used dairy tanker..* They could have billed it as a "Prevailing Word over da world double-duty dairy tanker.."
  19. I'll say one thing about "revelation" (or the lack thereof).. I went wow. Next.. what does one do, go corps? I never had any honest to god "revelation", or even a stinking FEELING to do so for that matter. In fact, no one even approached me on the subject.. I thought with such a "godly" thing to do, must be something wrong with me.. but I never went in. I never even tried..
  20. Perhaps. Along with having perhaps the worst weather in the last two years of the rock. I think it scared the crap out of them.. I think loy was afraid of the liability of having to do some explaining how da debil could run amock on "gawd's green acres" or something.. he already ushered out suspected "homos" and "unprofitable" people.. he was running out of people to place the blame on..
  21. well.. if I must.. friggin moron.. mindless bastard.. yes, I can read your mind. Sorry, it's something I do at times.. go ahead.. just "renew" your mind(?) that this is the "godly" step in life.. who are you sleeping with tonight.. kinda *lonely*? There's always L*nder.. or rosie I guess.. I'd prefer a mule. OK.. I'm done. Mods, I will proceed no further..
  22. maybe I'm a late starter at fifty something.. but at least I still start.. I chose to walk with the graduating class. I'm glad I did.. I sat next to the fellow who very likely will be in the same master's program this fall. nice to have a connection or two.. The other character I've connected with is brilliant.. got a degree with a major both in History and Math..
  23. Thanks friend. Well.. it was a good day today.. my sweetie was there of course.. and kids in "spirit".. interesting.. we have both a greasepot cat and squirrel sharing the distinction of a degree today.. congratulations Catcup.. hopefully in about 2 1/2 years I'll share the same distinction.
  24. I recognized that date.. when I saw the "sowers" site, I emailed the guy and asked him if he was born sometime in late may of 1985.. I wonder if he finally got the reference..
  25. Who's gonna love you, then..
