  1. I can't remember a Rock where weather wasn't a factor. To this day, I can't smell wet canvas without an instant flashback of tent city. Just getting to Rock was always a trial. I remember my interim Corp year as a WOW in West Virginia when our only transporation, my 74 Pontaic Catalina, died a bitter death. The last month was then a process of finding another car that we could afford, 'cause without one we were in a pickle. We went through three clunkers-you know the ones you could get for $200.00. We settled on a station wagon that we had to nurse along every step to Ohio: thankfully not that far. I loved the Rocks-getting to see people you hadn't seen for a while-meeting new people-eating WOW burgers-the nightly music-the slimy showers (ok, that wasn't so hot)-the Arts & Crafts. I hated the mud-it just seemed to be everywhere-all the time. Remember Lionel Ritchie's "Three times a Lady?" One of my memories is a rock where I spent time with my outgoing WOW family, and one of my WOW bro's sang that which he had re-written as "Three times my WOW sister." It was pretty hookie, but at the time it was very sweet and moved us to tears. Yeah, those were the days, my friend.
  2. Letting the world know we aren't greasespots-now that is THE point of it all. :)
  3. Ha! I bet she was smiling when she said that, partner!
  4. Act 19:10 "And this continued by THE space of two years..." Long live THE.
  5. Somehow that sounds familar to me, Jonny. I may have been there. I missed out on the mudfight 'cause I was working kitchen detail. All I heard was about the fun everyone had, a great tension reliever, and I wasn't there. Actually, I was totally P.O.'d to have missed it. I'd given anything to see Thomas face first in the mud.
  6. Men are so easy. Don't forget the recliner and the remote.
  7. "Anything you can do I can do better...."
  8. Reminds me of eating borsch and watching the head table having something much better. At times I know I felt like Oliver, wanting to grab my plate, walk up and say "Please, sir, can I have what you're having?" Oh, yeah, we were in training-I forgot.
  9. Amazing..... Thanks for posting this, Jim. I'd always heard about the letter but had never read it in its entirety until now. What a fascinating glimpse into the intellect and thought process of MLK. He was the right man at the right time. The fact that he was forced to justify the actions being taken to gain equal rights to the "religious" groups who should have been able to understand and support the efforts of the various black organizations in gaining freedom and self-worth is staggering.

Best example of "rightly dividing" a word I've seen!
  11. In case anyone's interested: Rosalind Rinker died on Jan 11 at the age of 95. Did a Goggle on her: she poineered the art of conversational prayer. Wondered where TWI got that from. Now we know.
  12. Mstar, the "24" link was hysterical. Thanks! I never watched "24" until Season One came out on DVD: I had to get the rest and now I'm hooked. Have to say I wasn't unhappy when Sherry finally bought it: what a lame b***. I'm like Jonny: I've resorted to watching this season and HATE the commercials and having to wait. For those who have the DVD: did you notice that the spolier for this season is completely different from what's aired? They must have dumped it and started over, or did it just to screw with our heads. And all the interoffice political bs: I can totally relate.
  13. Can't say I disagree with ya there, Mooney. But God Bless those young men who did what they had to do and paid the price. Now, in my way of thinking, us single ladies would make excellant soldiers. Think of it. Would any man in his right mind want to have a loaded gun in the hands of a woman in the midst of PMS or hot flashes? Not to mention, if you are single for reasons other than the loss of a spouse, for example, dumped, betrayed, used, ignored, or abused, a running gunbattle for the right reasons could be just the ticket. Forget aeorobics. A little hand to hand combat would be wonderfully slimming. And any woman who's handle massive loads of laundry, trays of food or drinks, or your typical computer binder with last year's data can handle 35 pounds of armour plating. IMHO, of course.
  14. Thanks for taking the time to post this speech. It is as inspiring to read today as it was to hear it.
  15. Nice to know that if I need it, I've got next month's rent boxed up in my closet. When I lost all my belongings upon leaving the Corps, and no one would cooperate in sending anything to me when I asked, (Gee I would love to talk to whoever cleaned out Emporia Hall at the end of that block!), I spent the next couple of years rebuilding all my class materials: should have spent the money on the albums I lost while they were still available-who knew? I've then spent the last 20 plus years hauling all that stuff around! Until recently, I felt to guilty to just throw it away: now I'll keep it until I ready to sell. Whoever wants it then, well, God Bless! Still have my replacement Cambridge: that's all I really need anyway.
  16. Your way was pretty much the format for the seventies way, except for the music. In the early days there wasn't much "ministry" music except Pressed Down & Selah: by mid-seventies there was more variety, so we stuck to that for background music. We encouraged people to fellowship before and after; that was part of what ministering to people consisted of. And (horrors) by running things that way the population of the ministry grew! Any time things got "legal" the fervor lessened considerable. "Legal" and "Love" just doen't mesh. Things can be as you described and as we ran it and still be decent and in order: that's what leadership is all about. Who sets the tone? You do. IMHO, that is.

I like a little coffee with my (flavored) cream and sugar. I know, I'm a heathen. I'll get myself gone now! <_<

    wabbits

What are four hundred rabbits hopping backwards? A receding hare line. An infant rabbit was orphaned. Fortunately though, a family of squirrels took it in and raised it as if it were one of their own. This adoption led to some peculiar behaviors on the part of the rabbit, including a tendency for it to eschew jumping but rather to embrace running around like its step-siblings. As the rabbit passed through puberty, however, it soon faced an identity crisis (don't we all!). It went to its step-parents to discuss the problem. It allowed as to how it felt different from its step-siblings, was unsure of its place in the universe, and was generally forlorn. Their response was, "Don't scurry, be hoppy."
  20. I think we now have a greater appreciation for Bless Patrol.
