I recall an incident in the Corps. During lunch, our Corps Coordinator read a letter from an interim Corps person. She was thanking the leadership for her growth, talking about how her year was going, sharing stories about her current situation and the job she had obtained, and expressing gratitude for the blessings God had given her and how she continued to grow every day. It was a wonderful, heartwarming letter. After he read it to us, he then said, "The entire letter is a lie". His reason: she wrote the letter on her company stationary. Because she "stole" that piece of paper from her company, it invalidated EVERYTHING that she said. Nice, huh? Throw out the heart and stomp her in public for a perceived infraction. I was truly shocked at the cruelty that was expressed, but being the koolaid drinker I was, I made sure to never take so much as a paper clip from any job I've ever had, even after I'd left TWI. Bred some "legalism" in me for a long time. I wouldn't allow friends to call me or come visit at my jobs. Never took time off for personal matters (except funerals). And expected the same behavior from my employees. Made me a good employee in the eyes of my bosses, but really put me in a box in other ways. Just a small moment in a lunchroom, but it had a lasting effect.

Missing Jack Lemmon Days of Wine and Roses

Is this the one where she was looking for her father-The Little Princess? I loved that movie-can't think of her partner's name though. Oh-and, dear Sudo, the singer-well, think big boobs, brassy hair, real folksy, and has an amusement park named after her in Pigeon Fork, Tennessee. Many top 10 singles and a hugely successful movie about working women. I think that's what made the moment so wonderfully surprising-having the guts to choose to sing that particular song in that particular venue just blew me away. The audience was on it's feet. Slightly I hope you all don't think this is lame, but I'm feeling something tonight and just want to try to express it, so bear with me. Hearing about Jim Doop tonight made me think about those moments, back in the beginning, when we all, at some point, went somewhere and heard something that made the hair on the back of our neck stand up. Before all the bs and classes and requirements, it was just pure hearing about God and His son and remembering wanting to hear more. Several years after I left TWI, I was watching, of all things, the Johnny Carson show. A well known singer came on to promote her new album. Instead of singing the title song, as you would expect, she instead sang this --- and the hairs in the back of my neck stood up again. To a nationwide late night audience, it was grassroots "here's the story, folks, and I'm not ashamed to tell it to you and tell you who I am in the process." Just was thinking about that tonight and wanted to share it. Hope you don't mind. (BTW-it's really effective if you can turn it up a little.)

Ha ha ha, Sudo-I like your thinking!!! It is amazing, isn't it-our screen idols are getting older, right before our eyes. It's to the point (for me, anyway), that I don't read the entertainment obits anymore 'cause I don't want to hear that we've lost another one. Really, I think I stopped looking when the Duke passed away-that one was enough. I've learned to just endure the memorials at the Oscars, because that's when I will see who else we've lost. But those grand old dames are still around! BTW-you can't forget the TV generation: Mary Tyler Moore-age 70, or Carol Burnet, age 73. And yes, George-that was now 83 year old Charles Durning. It was more fun watching him dance his way through that song-and he did it so well. You should check out his bio in Wikipedia-he is quite a story of service in WW II. Charles Durning

You know, this just makes me sick. I missed the first half of the interview (thanks for the transcript, Shell) but what I saw on the second half made me ill. Especially when the subject of a book and/or movie came up. Why this guy should profit from what he did is beyond me. You know, Larry (bless his heart) tried so hard to get the point across that the hoopla started with Karr's bizzare statements and actions. Karr was trying to bring himself across as some victim in all of this. Sick, sick, sick! No, he hasn't been found guilty of anything, but he can not justify anything but having a sick, twisted, perverted mind to have written and said what he has. And he wants to continue teaching???? Anybody in Atlanta who even considers hiring him is nuts. I could be wrong, but I thought I understood that even though the computer was lost, the entire contents of the hard drive were preserved. The reason the case was thrown out was that the defense showed that whatever was posted on the drive was posted before Karr moved to California, and therefore there were no California laws broken. Wherever he lived when the postings were made might have jurisdiction to charge him, but now without the computer, it may be harder to prove or the jurisdictions don't have laws covering it. Who knows? Whatever---just--yuck!!

Well, I'll have to be square (not the first time I've been accused of that ) It sure will be lonely around here without you all. Methinks there should be a live chat session at some point just to include the rest of us in, though I know that would be a little hard to pull off. But there must be pictures, ok?? Kathy's got it! Bluze, you're sweet, but don't let me hog the place!! (Although I'm having a ball.....) BTW-you can't forget a certain young comedian from the show who went on to be a very successful actor. What's funny is that I barely watched this show, since it was in my Way days, and either had no TV or was as opposed to it as many others were (Waybrain). The first show got 22,000 letters-and only four were positive. But they stayed on the air for four years. And Katherine Helmond is definitely what I remember. Ok, since it's election season- Here's one of the funniest political songs I've heard. Who sang it, and what movie is it from?
