Last year, I was invited to a doctor & his wife's house along w/ others for a 'tasting of the Gala', which means we were priviledged to taste the food that would be served at the $75.00 per person Gala on Friday nite b4 the antique show started on Saturday. Well, yesterday, I received a call & was asked to DECORATE one of the tables (with vintage hats, etc.) for the 'tasting' this year!!! I am so excited, but nervous. The 'tasting' takes place Sept. 30, about 3 wks b4 the gala & antique show.

Check your PM's, ToadFriend. I am headed to bed but will check in the morning. Good nite!!!!!!!!!!!

rascal, kickboxing was great. Tonite I went walking w/ my sister and I could keep up w/her. 3 weeks ago, I could not... I would be huffing and puffing. ToadFriend, did you ever find the book you asked about? I posted that I have one for sale. Ok, back to the purpose of the thread. I am glad for you that you had good years and that you have since learned not to allow anyone to treat you as a 2nd-class citizen. ex70's, so you have it all figured out, huh? ;)--> I liked the back rubs and the attention, and I am still not sure about SIT!!! beloit75, welcome and thanks for contributing to this thread. --> You are certainly in good company. Post away!!!!

hiway29, my sign off is 'The decisions we make today form our future'. I can see where you accomplished more than you thought you might. Being young back then, most of us didnt have great aspirations. As we grew older (wiser), we started to recognize our worth, maybe?? fortunateone, cool that you grad. from college, and also went to grad school. My life has improved substantially since leaving 11 yrs. ago. Second James, seems like several that had good wow years also met someone special that year that made life tolerable!!! Sorry about your divorce, but I am sure that you have moved on. rascal, I think 2ndJames may be speaking of his divorce, not pop>>>> ?????? Kevlar2000, I was a wow in Cumberland 2 yrs later. We went to Silver Springs MD one time for a meeting with Bill F!eming, I think. Maybe we met but like you say, that was a long time ago. I barely remember anything about it. Hamm, it is scary!!!!!!! --> frank123lol, there again, it seems like the ones who met a special one had a great year. Is this a pattern??? I wonder!!!!! moony3424, how many were sent out in 1975, do you remember?

Keep the posts coming. I am off to kickboxing class. Will try to post when I get home. -->
-
Thanks a million, Jim, for this info. I will show it to hubby when he gets home. We have owned our own business and worked side by side for about 7 yrs. We were together 24/7 almost exclusively during that time. Working together again will not be a problem for us. If you look at what I posted on CoolWaters thread about naming her business, you will see that we have gone thru many changes in business. Thanks again for the many pointers, and they will be helpful when we make our decision.

Groucho, I think I would have to say 'no' also. Hamm, my class started in May but ended in June I think. Glad some good came out of it for you. rascal and tonto, I was young & dumb too. All of 19 yrs old when I went wow, from the hills of western KY. My wow sister, from one of the richest counties in NY (which I didnt know at the time), taught me say to W A S H, not WARSH, R I N S E, not rinche, etc. When I came back to KY, I couldnt believe my ears!!! I still have wonderful feelings for her. I have no children but have lots of nieces & nephews & can understand about teens.... plus I was one once. :o--> oldiesman, glad you had a good year & would do it again. I really think that I would rather have gone the traditional route and did my running around and then 'found the Lord' in a church. (I was already saved from an early age due to being raised in a Christian home.)

Linda, email has been sent!!! I can't wait to see that beautiful hat. I still check the movies section in our tv guide hoping to see "My Summer Story", but it hasn't been shown here that I know of.
-
Jim, I asked him this morning and he said 'no', but if we buy it, we could persue that also. ex70's, the beauty of this is: he DOES NOT want to be the boss, he only wants to do what he is good at which is the physical labor part that includes setting up the machines properly to do the screenprinting. It has to be very precise and accurate. He is not a 'people person' and doesnt like dealing with customers. BTW, this is a wholesale business. Not like retail where people come in all the time. Oh, & thanks for the warning about unscrupulous folks. We both got a good feeling about him. His wife just grad. from nursing school. He is young, but has been in the screenprinting business for about 9 years, first as an employeee w/another company and then the last 5 yrs as owner/partner till his friend died. His friend did the customer service, bookkeeping, phone answering, etc.
-
Hubby & I looked at a screenprinting business that is for sale. The young man was in partners w/ another young man, who died in a diving accident. He wants to continue working in the business, but does not like the customer service, bookwork, order taking, etc. He just wants to be an employee and do what he does best, which is the physical labor end of the business. Anybody ever been in the screenprinting business? Pros//Cons....

Psalm 71 One, very interesting. I will have to get w/ my partner and see what we think. Any idea of the asking price for it??? You can PM me or ChattyKathy, if you wish. Linda Z, oh my, you are too thoughtful. I am sure that it would sell. Kathy sold a gorgeous navy blue 20's hat to my cousin, actually!!! What we found out last year, the very finest ones go first!!! I had several vintage purses and scarves and again, the finest of those sold first. And thanks, Linda, for the hat and for thinking of me. ;)-->

smitty, I am thrilled that you had a good year. It probably helped that you met & fell in love w/someone while 'on the field'??? Maybe??? BTW, my second wow year was in Cumberland MD 1977-1978. My wow brother posts here sometime, but havent seen Rona since around 1987 in Gretna, LA. Rona, where are you? I had good and VERY BAD things happen to me in LA. A 'believer' had wrecked my car a week or 2 b4 going to OH, so I was w/o a car. While 'on the field' I get a check for the car from my insurance company and was greatly pressured by my coordinator to 'donate' the money to the family fund. At the end of the year, I still had no car AND NO MONEY. But that is not the worst of it. But I will just leave it at that. :(--> Hi Steve. How are you? Zshot, bless your heart!!! I can sympathize with you!!!! Thank God that we are still alive and can warn others about twi!!! :D-->

Hey, Kathy... what a cool hat. I was watching an old movie the other day and the actress had a gorgeous hat on... that is the main reason that I watch old movies!!! Yeah, I found out later the lady with the mega dollar bracelet is married to a former mayor.

bliss, I was out for about 6 years and still held onto the way's teachings. It wasnt till my sister told me about Waydale that I began to unravel the 'dreadful thread'.... In fact, I had told my sis not to listen to the guy who had told her about Waydale...that it was an attack from the adversary!!!!! I had been out for years!!!!! BUT, then I pulled up Waydale on the internet, and I could not believe my eyes. What I am saying is: no matter what you have to say, unless they are ready to accept it (for example, they have heard a little bit and want to know more of the real 'truth')they will probably feel the way I felt... Dont be too shocked or hurt if they turn away from you. Just remember, plant that seed, and they may start to look for themselves like I did or they may be thrilled that you are telling them how it really is. That is my prayer for you and your Slavecorps friends.

It just hit me as I posted on Ted's thread. I took piffle in May 1975, and went WOW 2 months later. 30 years ago.... it does not seem real. I was sent to Lafayette, LA. I have kept in touch with my wow sister somewhat. She is in another country and had 3 boys. Lord, I guess they are adults now!!! Anybody else go wow in 1975??? Where did you go? If you had to do it again, would you???
-
Ted, if you will send me two, my sis would love to have one also. She saw you at CFF a couple of years ago and has loved you all these years. Since 1975, I guess. Love to you from both of us..

As some of you know, ChattyKathy and I have a booth at our local hospital foundation charity antique show. This will be our second year. We had a great time last year, plus it was our first time of ever meeting!!! Anyway, I had been collecting hats for my own pleasure for 10 years, so it was easy to part with some hats....but not the hat that Linda Z gave me that belonged to her aunt. :)--> To add excitement to what we have to offer, we need a bigger variety of exquisite vintage hats that have come from all over. Hence, we are asking for all of you who are interested to check with your moms, grandmas, aunts, cousins, and friends to see if they have hats that they are willing to part with. Since the booth costs both of us quite a bit, we won't be able to pay top dollar for hats, but are willing to pay a fair dollar for them. ANYBODY in the GSCafe up to it???? We will post a thread of our experiences and fun while ChattyKathy is here in October. What say you?????????!!!!!!!!!! BTW, the hat in my avatar is the hat Linda gave me.

We had a business in AR that was originally called AGS (Auto Glass Service). Their motto when we bought the business was: The best little glass shop in town... how original.... duh.. anyway, years after we changed the name, people still called our business AGS. What I am saying, I guess, is to make the name easy to say and easy to remember. A lesson we learned the hard way. After hubby bought the business, he wanted to add 'tint' to the name, so it was Auto Glass & Tint Service... ok.. that is fine, but THEN we moved to another location that included a full-service car wash. Well, we need to let people know that we were also a car wash.... hence the name: Auto Glass, Car Wash, and Tint Service... After saying that a hundred times and more each day, we changed it to A.C. T. Car Care, after we had added an oil change bay also. I guess my other point is: Think long term and dont box yourself in with your name. Just my humble and experienced opinion. :o--> AND another thing... the closer you are to the top of the heading in the yellow pages, the better you are. And another thing.... we had a pic of my hubby and his top employee in our ad with their names. We had lots of comments about that. Potential customers can see who they will be dealing with. Ok, I will shut up!!!!!!!

I placed my vote for you the other day, Zixar. Congrats on your new life. Just keep your eyes open. I wish you all the happiness in this world. :)-->

Oen, this is awesome. Congrats to Ryan. What a privilege to have a son that loves learning and is a success so early in life. ;)-->

My prayers are with the Wierwille family. It is hard losing a loved one, no matter what age or what else has happened. I hope she doesnt suffer. :(--> May God bless each of the Wierwille children and their families.

Hey Ted and Kathy, fancy meeting the 2 of you here!!!!!!!!!!! :)--> Ted, if you still have my address, I would love one of your latest. I have One More Time w/ Ted and I love it. Glad to hear that your mom is hanging in there. You are such a good & faithful son to her and our heavenly Father. Much love to you

I am back... thanks for those 2 sources, sirguessalot. I will check them out next week. Garth, let me know how your deal works out. CW, thanks for the info on the st. atty. gen. office. I love being at home but want to do something in addition to cleaning, mowing, visiting family and friends, etc.

Kathy!!!!!!!!! heehee... well, you can move at your own pace :D--> rascal, what we do is just aerobic kickboxing, so I doubt if there is a tournament. Glad you told me about how tough it is after taking a 3 week hiatus!!! I will try to at least go thru some of the moves if I am gone from it for any length of time. Yeah, it is hot in KY also. I used to live at the other end of your state and the humidity was unbearable at times. We owned a full-service car wash and had to be in the heat quite a bit. Sure do appreciate air conditioning. :D-->
