  1. Happy Birthday, Ron. Hope it is all that you want it to be, and MORE!
  2. Belle, thanks for posting that recipe. Sounds absolutely yummy. I checked on allrecipes.com early this morning, and found a crockpot recipe. Since my oven is gonna be full tomorrow morning, I have decided to try the crockpot recipe. PS Are you coming to my great state (eastern side of course!!!) for Thanksgiving, or just at Christmas? Too bad, I live on the opposite end!!!
  3. This is exactly the reason that I can NOT and will NOT condone the Catholic Church. I sometimes wonder how many of my cousins have been molested by their priests. See "Jesus is just alright with me' thread to get a background into my cousins, if you wish. How can anyone condemn vpw, lcm, etc. and hold the Catholic Church in high esteem when those in charge KNOWINGLY would transfer their 'bad boy' priests to other dioceses. It is a disgrace. Just my humble opinion.
  4. 'socks' date='Nov 22 2005, 08:06 PM' post='198243'] Most of the time I'm dweedling along, living, doing what I have to do the best way I can muster. The private time I have for these things is refreshing, relaxing. Hopefully it informs the rest of my life and actions as I go. Yeah, socks, I really like that. Now back on topic..... Jesus :o
  5. Oh, BTW, my granddad who almost disowned my mom when she became Baptist MARRIED a non-Catholic, who for years did not attend church. My granddad took the children to church. I cant remember when my mom said that my grandma finally started going to Catholic church, if it was while they were still at home, or after grandchildren were born. I wonder if HER dad disowned her when she married a Catholic. I will ask my mom.
  6. mark, please do not take offense at the following: I feel that most Catholics are as brainwashed as I was in twi. My mom's family is all Catholic except 2 cousins. Out of 23 cousins (not including my family who was raised Baptist) only TWO are not Catholic as adults. Their mother practically disowned them, and to this day, the sisters have a very strained relationship with her. When my mom married my dad, and became a Baptist, HER DAD ALMOST disowned her. Does this remind you of 'mark and avoid'? When MY sister became a Catholic, my dad could not believe it, but he NEVER disowned her. He is disappointed in her. Anyway, maybe my dad brainwashed me as a child. I believe that praying vain repetitous (sp) prayers and saying, after the priest says his thing in mass, thus saith the lord, and the other things that they say are vain repetions. This should probably go in the 'catholic church' thread, but since you posted here, I will say how I feel. Again, I have nothing against Catholics. My aunts and cousins are very decent people. I cant say that any of them are very Christ-like. I have attended mass as a child a couple of times with my grandparents, and remember having to wear a doily on my head. Then later, I didnt have to. I remember my cousins had to eat fish on Friday, now they can eat whatever they want to, unless it is Lent. I remember when my granddad died, my grandma had to BUY him OUT OF PERGATORY!!! I had better stop. Anyway, I think I will stick with what I am doing.
  7. Hopefull, for me, it took going to church SEVERAL times to get over cringing every time Bro. Bret would say "Jesus". I still pray in the name of Jesus Christ, though most all my family pray in Jesus' name. I guess I am still waybrained to a point, but I am getting out of it. My brother gave me a "Jesus" prayer cloth, that I have hanging over my alarm clock. It was taken to Africa on a mission trip by a local church and was prayed over there, and then brought back here. I still look at it every day, and do not cringe when I see it!!! It also reminds me to pray when I lie down to sleep. I like it. I do have a much healthier respect for Jesus now than I did. I even think a have a relationship with him now. Whereas, in twi, WE WERE THE ONES!!!! Our hands behind his hands...etc..... well, I dont know about that, and I dont really care. I do know that I am born again, and I am working on making Jesus LORD IN MY LIFE. I have a L O N G way to go!!!
  8. Sudo, the turkey was done in less than 3 hours and was very moist. I followed the directions on the Reynolds box which said to rub in veg. oil... I certainly would have used butter if I had read your suggestion early enough. (No margarine in this house)))) I have it carved and in a glass pan and poured some of the delicious juice over it. I will warm it up on Thursday per my mom's instructions. Hey Belle, care to part with the sweet potato casserole?? I am making one, but not sure which recipe to use. I babysat my year-old nephew today. What a cutie. Except that while he, hubby, my brother, and I were eating, he had to let go of his milk on his clothes and mine!!! So I quickly changed both of us and put our stinking clothes in the washer!!!!! OK, cool.... well, then he went to sleep and slept and slept, ,,,,,, and urinated and urinated.......so the throw that I just washed yesterday, was now christened, so it is now in the dryer after being washed!!!!! I love him, though!!!!
  9. Brother Speed, I also welcome you home, and am very thankful for your unselfish service to our country. God bless you and yours during this holiday season.
  10. I put my turkey in the oven this morning, in a roasting bag. Never done that before, so I dont know how it will turn out. Tomorrow, I will bake the ham, hopefully, in a roasting bag, if the turkey is as good as I hope it is. I have a great recipe for cranberry salad, that uses pineapple, apple, and nuts. Hubby's family raved about it last year, so I am doing it again. I will post the recipe if anyone wants it. My year old grand nephew will be here any minute, so I will be tied up watching him all day. What fun he is!!!
  11. Excellent thread. One that I am very interested in also. If I recall correctly, Wayfer Not, you live in CA. One of our businesses we had in AR was a full-service car wash, which I would NOT recommend, due to the liability of employees, equipment, damage to vehicles by uncaring employees, etc... BUT I would recommend a self-serve car wash, one that has the drive-thru service. In my area, I pay $5.00 for a basic wash w/no drying. It takes credit cards and bills up to $10.00. The profit is good, and you & hubby could retain both your jobs, and go by on your lunch hour and replace the trash liners, etc, if needed, and then go by after work, and do general clean up of the grounds. Weekends would be a good idea to be there to keep the place spotless. Back to AR, we rented the building but we owned the car wash equipment, which really helped us when we sold the business. So, maybe you can find a self-serve that the owner is willing to lease it to you for a monthly rent, and as things progress, you could buy the property. Another thing that we did was offer a cleaning service to the local terminal locations for major trucking companies. But we cleaned mostly the inside of the trucks. We had a dedicated team of employees that did only that. It was the best deal we have ever had. In fact, it helped put us in a home in Memphis in the hottest area there. (When we cleaned inside and out, we charged about $125.00, inside only was about $65.00) Takes about 2 hours (inside and out) if you have a good employee. We paid our employees by the truck, so they were motivated to do it quickly and do it right the first time. Plus, keeping a record of the truck # for pay, we also were able to determine who worked on it, if there was a problem with the truck not being cleaned properly. However, I would recommend that you try to only clean the inside of trucks, less liability and problems with EPA due to water runoff. Most major trucking companies have a truck wash for the outside at their locations. And the money is much better for inside only cleaning and takes much less time. And most major trucking companies pay ON TIME!!!!! The only company that we did not pursue was Schne1der, they are 90 day pay..... no way...... Ok, enough about that. One of best friends in AR installs door locks, closet shelving, mirrors & shower installations for new home construction. Also, ventless fireplaces and vacuum systems. When he goes to the home, he measures for everything and gets a count of what is needed. EXCELLENT MONEY. In fact, we installed mirrors and shower enclosures in our business. Ok, I will shut up.
  12. Hubby loves all music except rap!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially loves the OLD country music....as in Hank, Sr., Lefty Frizzell, Porter, Scruggs, Wilburn Bros., George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Little Jimmy Dickens, and a bunch of entertainers that I cant remember. He watches RFD-TV when he is home. Thanks for the nice compliment. We do try to make guests feel welcome in our home. Hubby is a very good host, if I say so myself!!! ;) I am signing off. Going to make a key lime cheesecake for our guests this weekend. YUM YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I used Quickbooks for almost 8 years in our small business. At the time, it was a tossup between Quickbooks and Peachtree Accouting. I opted for Quickbooks. I really liked it. It was pretty simple to set up, though I did make a few mistakes initially. Reports and graphs are pretty cool and help you keep a handle on how your business is doing.
  14. krys, wicked candle wraps?? Never heard of those, I dont think. Tell me more. krys, I know what you mean about your handiwork. It is almost hard to sell things that take SO LONG to make!!! I have sold a few items, but mostly, I give them as gifts. How are you ???? heehee.... Garth, that is actually gross!!! Wacky, we are still here. I still have not heard from Scott. I am having company this weekend and next weekend, so I have been rather busy preparing for all the out-of-town guests. Plus my hubby's birthday is Monday. I do plan on calling Scott first of the week, if he still hasnt made contact. Wacky, I keep thinking of that fine yarn that you weave. Maybe someday I will buy some from you. :D In fact, I need to get off the internet and start that key lime cheesecake with homemade graham cracker crust for this weekend's celebration!!!
  15. 'ChattyKathy said' You know what act2, you really do have a wonderful community there. I could fall in love with that town. So did I just invite myself...... :D heehee... well I guess you did invite yourself down..... do you prefer blues or bluegrass??? Rick, I love that song also. I saw this fine lady perform at the Executive Inn in Owensboro, KY a number of years ago. What a great song and a fantastic, smooth voice.

Ron, having lived in Marion, AR, (Crittenden County) for 8 years, I can relate to the following: 1, 4, 9, 14, 19. Of course, we were so close to Memphis, that I guess those Critt. Countians were more 'citified' than those in outlying areas!!! Things didnt change much when I did move to Memphis, which is where I also lived for a year b4 moving to Marion. Are you confused yet??? heehee.. Go Razorbacks, that is, unless they are playing KY Wildcats!!! ;)
  17. Koko Taylor was at our local Blue's Festival last year, I believe. She is awesome. BTW, our festival is usually Father's Day weekend, so I was always able to attend even when living in Memphis. It is a free concert and is located in a park at the river's edge amongst giant shade trees, with a lovely sunset from the Ohio River. I wish I could remember the names that were there this year. We have John James Audubon State Park located here with cabins. If any of you are interested, I could get more info on the park or the blues fest. Of course we also have a FREE bluegrass fest in August, that is great. They celebrated 20 years this year. Shameless plug for my hometown, I know. But they are BOTH great festivals. B) I have attended both MANY times.

    The Parrot

Too cute!!! Thanks for the laugh.
  19. I apologize ahead of time for butting in on your thread, but I have to say this: I really needed a laugh this morning after the tornado warnings and thunderstorms I went thru with yesterday, and then seeing satori's post about a 7-yr old boy that needs our prayers, then reading excathedra's post In Memoriam about her dear neighbor that died. tomtuttle1, thanks for the laugh. In fact, I read this thread almost daily. Well, when you guys post anyway, which is ALMOST daily!!! Again, thanks. I really needed this.
  20. Kathy, that is too wild. Glad the former girlfriend is ok, relatively speaking. All the more reason to be very selective in relationships, huh??? OK, I apologize to Rick for taking so long to reply to his post of a week ago or so. Rick, it was my pleasure to speak to you on the phone. Kathy and I had a great time together. You just added a little spice to the mix!!!! Anyway, take care of yourself and maybe we can talk again sometime.
  21. Wacky, congrats on the win. Isnt it fun to win something??? I tried calling Scott but he hasnt returned my call. I do hope that he is ok after the tornado ransacked Evansville and Newburgh. Anyway, keep posting ideas and thoughts. I love it.
  22. TCat, Happy Birthday to you!!!! Hope this day is fantastic and all you desire it to be.
  23. Happy Veterans Day, to all Veterans, including my husband, dad, and other family members. Thank you for helping to keep our great nation FREE!!!!!!!!!!
  24. As alot of you know, hubby and I moved back to my hometown after being gone for 15 years. Thru all those 15 years, however, I ALWAYS came home for holidays and family gatherings. (When I moved to SC, I had been with a trucking company for over 11 years, so I had seniority, vacation, and holidays. ) But with my parents getting older, I wanted to be HOME. I have enjoyed this last year IMMENSELY. I have spent time with each parent (divorced after 37 years!!) and my family. In fact, just this week, I saw my 10-yr old niece play basketball (they won 26-24), then cheerlead for the boys game. Two days later, I went to my 11-yr old grandnephew's game... they won 52-12. Yesterday, my mom and I went to Evansville. Shopped at a few stores, then went to Briar & Bean for a cafe' moccha, yum, then shopped more, then ate a sandwich at Panera's, yum, then shopped more before we came home. What a wonderful day we had, and beautiful weather. And last Saturday, we celebrated my grandnephew's FIRST birthday. I just love being with my family and spending time with my friends. I am so thankful to my heavenly Father for answering my prayer to sell our business so I can be in the great state of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals.... go CATS..... go CARDS!!!!
