You won't hear his name mentioned in KU history as a great player. I think WHO? would be the common response that you would get from around here. The key to the city was for the city of Allahabad. I seem to remember that the key was displayed at the Sidney House at one time. Anyone else remember that? I'd tend to believe the record, given that he was the guest of many receptions during the stay. The key was for one city not all of India and was given to him by a member of the central government who was from Allahabad. Another thing to consider is something that Way History fails to mention often which was that VP went to India as a representative of The American Committee for the All-India Federation of National Churches They sponsored his tour which is why he was given the entrée and attention he was given. Dr. J. S. Williams was their guide he was the head of the Federation of National Churches. As such I can see why he might have been presented a key. While he did teach while there on occasion the key would have been most likely presented as a matter of protocol under the representative title not the Way International. None of the news clippings I have seen mention The Way in fact, only the PAIRS organization. It was most likely arranged long before anyone heard him speak or teach, so I doubt it had anything to do with his preaching.

congratulations you had the backbone to get out
WhiteDove replied to cheranne's topic in About The Way
I agree, not that it matters if I did one way or another, if you feel inspired to do such, do it. But your thread was directed at others that we somehow should share your passion for the need to do something, not yourself doing it. As such I offered my view. Here is your title note the command NOW DO. Me personally I don't feel the need, but if I did I would simply do it ,I might share what I did when it was done ,but most likely I would not start a thread telling others they should do the same as myself. -

No not most, but the context of the thread was remember WARN OUR SOCIETY All caps even, like we have some compelling civic duty to save the world (as others have said) from a group that hardly matters in the larger scheme of things. To get all worked up with some battle cry to save the world seems to me at least somewhat strange at the least, perhaps even a indicater of a deeper problem.. -

1. Do something really useful rather than complaining about poor life choices you made. 2. Take required Meds ( they are not the enemy Either) -
That was not the case at FT. Riley either.

Mrs. Wierwille records the date of the man with the hand who was healed as Monday January 23d 1955 perhaps the Jabalpur paper would have a record. Ha one trouble he caused was at St. Luke's church in Jabalpur , they fumigated the church after the service there where VP taught The Blessings from God Ephesians 5. , to rid it of any vestiges of their presence.

One Day of the Dog's Diary Reads: 8:00 am Oh boy! ........ dog food, my favourite! 9:30 am Wow! ........ a car ride, this is a blast! 9:40 am A walk in the park ...... hot damm! 10:30 am Getting rubbed and petted ..... I'm in love! 12:00 pm Lunch! ... Yummy! 1:00 pm Playing in the yard! ...... I just love it! 4:00 pm Hooray! ... the kids are home! .... I am bouncing off the walls! 5:00 pm Milkbones! .... what a great treat! 7:00 pm I get to pay ball ... this is too good to be true! 8:00 pm Wow! .. watching TV with my master ... heavenly! 11:00 pm Sleeping at the bottom of my master's bed ... Life is Great! The Same Day of the Cat's Diary Reads: Day 683 of my captivity; my captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I and the other inmates are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat some- thing in order to keep up my strength. In that way I shall be ready to flee at the first opportunity that presents itself. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape (and the tepid satisfaction I receive from ruining the occasional piece of furniture). In yet another demonstration of civil disobedience, I shall topple and destroy one more houseplant tonight under the cover of darkness. Many of my efforts to wear down my oppressors are not going according to plan. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomited on the floor. I shall soon be expanding my repertoire; I believe, I'll start vomiting in their shoes and/or beds. Today, I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. ... the audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to my power of "allergies" I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around her feet as she was walking by. I must try this tomorrow ...... but at the top of the stairs.

Finally a decent retirement plan from Ana Cooper START NOW!! Retirement Planning If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock 1 year ago, it would now be worth $49.00 Similarly, a $1,000.00 purchase of Delta Air Lines stock a year ago would now be worth $49.00 With Enron, you'd have $16.50 left of the original $1000.00 With WorldCom, you'd have less than $5.00 But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer and/or wine 1 year ago, drank it all, then turned in the cans/bottles for the recycling REFUND, you'd have had $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. Cheers! Ana Cooper

Does my super hearing detect someone calling?...... Holy Tina Turner Robin (who else would a Dove hang out with) A hero? We don't need another hero We don't need to know the way home All we want is life beyond the thunderdome So, what do we do with our lives We leave only a mark Will our story shine like a light Or end in the dark Give it all or nothing We don't need another hero ......... Are you pulling my tail feathers again? Riddle me this ....When is alleged really alleged ? I think I was pretty clear that generally day to day things are for the most part accepted. Case in point.... if one says they had coffee for breakfast, generally it would be accepted as fact without much question. They may or may not have had coffee, but lacking any reason to embellish the story, I think most would accept it. Stories that impugn someone's life and character for the most part I have found people like to have more verification on . Case in point If someone says the President drank coffee this morning most would accept it who really cares? But if one says the President is a thief then generally most people would require some proof to the claim. That would be the difference..... Second I don't recall VP ever saying that the stories he told were true in every case. But were to illustrate a point. If his stories were A figure of speech...... Parable is used of a story with a hidden meaning, without pressing in every detail. This likeness is generally only in some special point. Parables are used from the resemblance of the one thing to another. The thing may be true or imaginary but the events must be possible or likely to have happened At any rate those that hear must believe that they are possible events, though it is not necessary that the speaker should believe them.. Parables often have a misconception that they are to make things clear or plain ,but in truth they are some of the most difficult sections of scripture often to understand. We have seen from Parables the following: *it is a story with a hidden meaning *It is not pressing in every detail *The likeness is true in one point *It can be imaginary but the events must be possible *The speaker does not have to believe them, but the hearer must believe that they are possible. Most speakers share stories to reinforce their point, I doubt all are true or personal. Now where is that phone booth ? ............. I have the never ending battle for Truth, and Justice for the Way and humankind to attend to ....allegedly of course......

Hey you asked ........ I can be whatever one wants, you know all things to all men. Be careful for what you ask for they say..... Here you want a judge on another thread you want a superhero ...... Whatever makes your day! I'll be getting to that role shortly ,as soon as I find a phone booth....... Darn cell phones are making them obsolete. Now back to regular scheduled program............

Sure, The honorable Whitedove prevailing ....All Rise.... Herewith is the finding.......... Nope, both sides not one only would present any evidence they have and a determination would be made based on such evidence ,not hear say,or agendas. Until such time as a verdict is rendered the crime is properly refered to as alleged. Case in point from prior posts .........we can now no longer refer to Bobby Cutts as Alleged Murderer, he had his day a fair hearing not trial by internet, not trial by word of mouth,he presented his evidence and verdict was rendered. That's how life works in the real world. Bang court is now closed......

i'll tell you what killed that little boy....

No nerve touched here WG I just thought maybe it was not a heart matter ,but a lack of substance matter maybe or perhaps she thought that was the best thing to do from her perspective. -

Ok I gotta say this I don't often speak up in favor of the church, because I personally think it is a cult. But the heart statement bothered me somewhat. Having three aunts that were Sisters of Charity I have to say just like in the Way there are good and bad people in the Catholic Church. One thing to consider is that nuns take a vow of poverty they don't often have anything to give. My dad took care of his sisters needs often he used to give them money to get things they needed but they ended up giving it to the offerings, so he had my mom take them out when they would visit shopping for things they needed. It may be that she did not lack heart it may be that is all she had to give. I still think it is creepy none the less but I'm just saying...... I have to also consider that symbolic items are central to that religion she probably saw it as a thing of honor. I know growing up on special occasions we would get holy cards, rosaries and such from the aunts and after awhile I know they were not appreciated that much , I mean when you are a kid and you have fifty-two rosaries, the complete holy card collection volumes one through 12, and so many medals that it makes Mr. T's Bling look weak, it just wasn't that great. Once I got a really cool folding set of silverware for scouts, although someone forgot to mention that I was not in scouts. Anyway they gave what they had to give it's too bad they had to live that way while the Pope can only "touch" solid gold things. But that is the way cults go....... -

It would be creepier with a rosary...... :o -
Another King parallel with VPW In the 1980s, questions were raised regarding the authorship of King's dissertation, other papers, and his speeches. Concerns about his doctoral dissertation at Boston University led to a formal inquiry by university officials, which concluded that approximately a third of it had been plagiarized. However, Boston University decided not to revoke his doctorate, stating that although King acted improperly, his dissertation still "makes an intelligent contribution to scholarship". Theodore Pappas points out in his book Plagiarism and the Culture War, that King took a class on scholarly standards and plagiarism at Boston University Since 1989, when Reverend Ralph Abernathy wrote about Martin's adulterous relationships, the question of whether or not Martin Luther King, Jr. was unfaithful to his wife or not is still being debated. A year before he died, Martin allegedly revealed a longstanding affair to Coretta. However, Coretta has stated that she and Martin "never had one single serious discussion about either of us being involved with another person." Source: "I May Not Get There With You", by Michael Dyson, p. 216. King described his affairs as "a form of anxiety reduction." Martin said, "I’m away from home twenty-five to twenty-seven days a month." Three relationships were more than one-night stands, and Martin grew especially close to one woman. The "relationship, rather than his marriage, increasingly became the emotional centerpiece of King's life, but it did not eliminate the incidental couplings that were a commonplace of King's travels." Source: "Bearing the Cross", by David Garrow, p. 375. Ralph Abernathy: "Martin and I were away more often than we were at home; and while this was no excuse for extramarital relations, it was a reason. Some men are better able to bear such deprivations than others, though all of us in SCLC headquarters had our weak moments. We all understood and believed in the biblical prohibition against sex outside of marriage. It was just that he had a particularly difficult time with that temptation. As a part of its surveillance activities, the FBI did document some sexual encounters involving Martin Luther King.

As long as we are clarifying things I wonder what professional data we have to support the alcoholic comment in post #684 ? Was some evaluation performed that I missed ?

I’ve read these before but they’re still wonderful! Five (5) lessons to make you think about the way we treat people. 1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady. During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: 'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?' Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. 'Absolutely,' said the professor. 'In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello.' I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy. 2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain One night, at 11:3 0 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached. It read: 'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away.. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.' Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole. 3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve. In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. 'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked. 'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress. The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. 'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. 'Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied. The little boy again counted his coins. 'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip. 4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path. In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition. 5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts... Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, 'Yes I'll do it if it will save her.' As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, 'Will I start to die right away'. Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her but he had chosen to save her anyway.
