  1. "The Bible knows nothing of solitary saints or spiritual hermits isolated from other believers and deprived of fellowship." [ page 130] Really? Is that true? The imprisoned apostle Paul, a "solitary saint" separated from his fellow believers toward the end of his life, is only one of numerous Biblical examples of faithful men and women who grew strong in faith while standing alone. Check the Psalms, the Books of Isaiah, Jeremiah and other persecuted prophets, the Gospels.... Remember that in many Communist prisons, the uncompromising Biblical faith of tortured believers brought multitudes of fellow prisoners—even cold-hearted inquisitors and torturers—to Christ. Yes, our visible God-given love for one another demonstrates a divine gift that the world craves but cannot duplicate. But only the Truth of the gospel (doctrine), made alive by the Spirit, can spark that same divine life and love in another person. "Love" without Truth cannot bring unbelievers into God's Family.
  2. Driven or Led? (Some Food For Thought) Notice the difference between being "driven" and being "led": Driven usually implies a controlling force pushing or forcing a passive subject (cattle, enemies, rebellious people, ship, etc): "...until He has driven out His enemies from before Him." Numbers 32:21 "...you shall be driven mad because of the sight which your eyes see." Deuteronomy 28:34-35 “For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day." Joshua 23:9 "David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock." 1 Samuel 30:19-20 "Will You frighten a leaf driven to and fro?" Job 13:25 "Then they will look to the earth, and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they will be driven into darkness." Isaiah 8:22 "But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds." Jeremiah 23:3 "You shall be driven out, everyone headlong, and no one will gather those who wander off." Jeremiah 49:5 "But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts." Daniel 5:20-21 "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." James 1:6-8 "Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds." James 3:4 Led or lead usually implies a choice on the part of God's people -- those who look to His Word and want to know and follow His ways: "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way." Exodus 13:21 Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me." Psalm 43:3 "O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.” Isaiah 3:12 "Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day." Psalm 25:5 "I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. " Isaiah 42:16 "Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me." Psalm 139:10 "...see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24 "Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness." Psalm 143:10 "I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. " Isaiah 42:16 "And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever." Matthew 6:13 "...for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:17
  3. Quote: Gee -- I'm feeling left out. I've not heard of this book before. I guess I can go to the local "Christian Bookstore" for it. Sounds popular. David It is,I think it has sold something like two million copies. IF you have a Sams Club near you they are pretty cheap there around $10.00.
  4. Ok I'll be the odd man out but I will be watching this thread with intrigue. Maybe one of you can explain what the Purpose of this book was other than to make Mr. Warren very wealthy. I read this book with a group of people I thought it sounded promising no one at the end saw any great purpose. All the unbiblical reteric aside most of what was left seemed pretty common sense like Christianity 101 ie God wanted a family, We are not accidents Transformed by Truth ( I think that was a SNS tape) How to serve and so on... I don't know mabe if I would have sprung for the deluxe set with the calander and key chain it would have turned out different.
  5. Dear Sisterdove You might want to read Steve's first post on this thread pg 1 that should answer your questions.

  15. Learning Part two of your question: And if so, why they kept it for themselves? Do you know? As I stated these notes are in a rough form indexed by tape # which as far as I can tell are about 150 of them. I said it was a transcript but it is not word for word more the sum of the discussion. Really it is a verse explanation and some referance things to look into I'd say. The three books that The Way published were in a readable form, these notes at times would require the user to have some background in the Bible to understand. I would suppose that is part of the reason why they were not freely distributed. There are other books on Manners and Customs of the Bible and they read much the same, most Christians do not read them for this reason. They want the BOOK of the month stuff with a keychain and calendar and candleholder to match that is what sells. Which is too bad as there is a lot to learn in this area. In the last 10 years I have been collecting Artifacts from Bible times each with a story to help in understanding sections in the Bible more clearly. Together with these notes as well as others I hope to assemble an exhibit where people can see touch and learn from Archaeology what truths it reveals about the Bible. I'll close with this in looking at the notes today in response to your question I saw this regarding money lenders. Items given as pledge for money often were things that were needed in day to day life like a cloth to cover when sleeping at night. If this was pledged or as we would call today pawned for money the one loaning the money would return the item at the days end for use even if the money was not returned yet. Consideration for the owner always came first over the money given. Consideration for others over material things would have been a good lesson for many in the Way to have learned. As my friend Mr Dylan says "for the love of a lousy buck I watched them die" Too many good people were disposed of for the love of money.
  16. Learning The notes were just a transcript of the tapes when V.P.W. and Bishop Pillai sat down together( I think if memory serves was about a week) and went through the Old Testament and talked about the Orientalisms verse by verse. It is not like the books at all. They are done in subject form this is done in Chapter and Verse form starting with Genesis and through Malachi. As Excathedra pointed out by itself it would be a boring read. Don't know if you have ever heard Bishop Pillai speak but his English is hard enough to understand so some times the notes are also. Not that he did not know what he wanted to say just getting it into English was a task at times. That said it has been a good resource tool to have at times and I do still use it on occasion.
  17. Learning Don't know of any unless someone had some books from an Academic Reasearch catalog which would be rare on grounds. The Orientalisms "book" you spoke about was probably the transcript notes from the tapes that Bishop Pillai did while at the Way either tape or spiral bound. They are 180 pages so bound they would be a book and were only available to the Way Corps/Way College students.
  18. But Excathedra you also have special powers that WW does not.
  19. Oak Sorry lost track of this thread. I agree with you that Hebrew was without question the original language of the Old Testament. Also that just because lamsa translated Genesis that way does not guarantee that it was first in the Aramic, nor does it guarantee that it was not either. But my response was to your comment that it was Dr Wierwille's idea! It was not he got it from Lamsa so in this case it really is a translation issue with him not something that Dr. Wierwille invented as you implied. Not that there were not plenty of other things that were "invented" Just keeping the record straight.
  20. Coolwaters It is about a twelve hr drive from KC. you can check the park link posted to see if any rooms come up available or put your name on the wait list. PS you can meet me anytime for free :D-->
  21. Oak re:An example that pops up is Wierwille's assetion that the first word in the bible "in the original" is "God". The problem is that there is no evidense for this. The word "God" is placed third...Wierwille even quotes the Hebrew of Genesis 1:1 VPW Got this from the Pe****a Text Bible that George Lamsa did. The Lamsa Bible does read that way from the Aramaic of the Pe****ta Text. The Lamsa Bible is listed in most Academic Book Catalogs and holds a favorable reception as a Syric transation. Maybe this will clear up that translation question for you.
  22. Wayfer there is hope yet. I just bought a pair of tickets for Dylan & Willie Nelson for $100.00 A nice touch kids under12 get in FREE with an adult. How cool is that.
  23. Lynn You should be able to get your records by calling or writing The Way permanent records. The last time I knew they charged a lookup and copy fee I think it was about $10.00.
  24. Pat I suppose it depends on how you define advertising. All the brochures done over the years are advertising. The tv time for the live heartbeat show from Wichita could be considered advertising. The high country productions were advertising for the Way and PFAL so all the production costs for those would be considered advertising. Rock of a Ages billboards and banners, any signage at the root locations. I'd have to agree they have spent quite a bit over the years don't think you will win that battle sorry!
