The last year I was on Staff, the couples HAD to get married at HQ and had one big reception in the dining room. There was still a special table for the Trustee household even at the reception. I'm glad I didn't get married like that. It would have really sucked!!

I don't get it. Are we supposed to guess who the poster is? I have a hunch based on one thing the interviewee spoke about. But I'm not sure because I always thought the poster in my mind was a woman. I've been wrong before though. Can the real poster please stand up? -
Is she going to jail for that DUI?? How does a princess get treated in jail? She'll probably make some ho friends until they try to meet up with her when they get out of jail.
-
Yes, she was in the Corps, but they were both Corps Alumni when I knew them. Her name is Jeanine. I think her last name before marrying was a French name. I can't remember for sure.

I remember Bob Stanley and Acts 29. They had a really rockin' album in 1984.

I couldn't get the files to play. What am I doing wrong? -
Well, Listener, that certainly makes perfect sense. BUT TWI didn't agree with that. Praying to Jesus is hard when you are trying to get rid of TWIT brain. Some how people equate praying to Jesus as making him God. As our mediator and the Head of the Church, I am of the opinion that is is ALL GOOD to pray to him. I sure don't want to get to heaven and have him asking me why I didn't talk to him. Not praying to Jesus would equate crossing your path in a hallway and not talking to you. That is just my 2 cents though.;)

Those of you trying to put off old habits learned in twi, try praying in Jesus' name. You'll find that God still hears you, and He will even answer you. There's nothign wrong with praying in the name of Jesus Christ, it just became too religious in TWI. It became as rote as "Our Fathers" in Catholicism.

It is a hard pill for wayfers to swallow since they only pray for the BEST situations and the BEST household. I got reproved for praying for baby Jessica in twig one year. Baby Jessica had fallen down a well in Midland, Texas, around 1987 or so. She was down in the well for days. I lived in Midland at that time, so the story hit close to my heart. I was told that she didn't have God's protection because her parents were unbelievers.

Waitresses get paid a lot less than minimum wage. I wonder if he knew that. When minimum wage was $3.35 per hour in the early 80s, I made $2.15 per hour as a waitress. I depended on my tips. That reverend was cheap. Was he in twi?? I do tip minimum 15% to a waitress. If they are really good, then it is 20%. I tip my hair dresser the same. I tip a guy who handles bags on a shuttle $1 per bag. ONCE I stiffed a waitress because she never came around. I had to have someone else run my credit card. By the time I was ready to leave, I left her a note telling her why I didn't tip her. She made our dinner frustrating, and we could see her coddling over another table across the restaurant. We had this lady once before and had the same thing. I hope my stiffing her left an impression.

You do laughing yoga? I saw that on Oprah. It looks hecka dorky, but it seems to be fun. I bet it works. It got Oprah's complaining makeup artist to stop being so negative.

He got married in 2001. Last I knew he was still on staff. I will have to ask someone I know at HQ for sure.

JWs I've been around since leaving TWI had eerily familiar type personalities I experienced in TWI. I've been to non-denominational churches who have not banned anyone from not believing their doctrine. I went to a great church in San Diego where the pastor said he was happy to help anyone find the place they wanted to be if it wasn't at his church. I emailed the same pastor telling him my beliefs on the trinity and invited him to come and talk to me. He did so, and I wasnt' convinced of the trinity after that meeting. He still treated me with respect and love. It's when people try to take others with them in a fight about doctrine that problems arise. That is sad. If someone disagrees the vehemently, they should go do their own thing instead of starting a dissention.

Dave and Susan Edwards left twi between 3-4 years ago. At that time, they lived in an area north of Los Angeles. Their son, Jared, postd here about the time they left, but I haven't seen him since. -
The thing I don't understand is why is it important for the people who contribute to society to be responsible to help change those who don't care about their environment? Common sense seems to elude some people who want to take pride in their "colors" (blue, red, or whatever they are) to the fact that you shouldn't bother others with your crap or not let their actions affect others. It is a shame that the only sense of belonging would be to a gang. There are some who are passionate about helping these kids find a place in society outside a gang. God bless them. The others want to move away to a society that doesn't have that activity in it. God bless them too. I also understand the frustration of speaking English in our own Country. I dont' see anything wrong with them learning English so they can communicate in our society. I also don't see anything wrong with them speaking their own language while in the presence of people in their own ethic background here or anywhere else as long as they don't require their chosen country to change. I thought that was the reason for neighborhoods like Chinatown? It allows people to be in an environment they like to speak a language they like. If people like me go there and don't speak their language, we just suffer through it. That's OK IMHO. I'm sure there is more I want to say. I just don't understand why this issue has to be so black and white.

I have a friend on Staff who lives in Founders Hall who said they have DSL now. I'm sure internet activity is monitored. Long distance phone calls were monitored, so it would only make sense.

I think you guys are missing the point here. Dot's neighborhood has been infested by people who are not good citizens. What race those people are doesn't matter. They are poisoning an area. She doesn't want that kind of environment around her home. She chooses to live in an area which will have less chance of that happening. And she chooses to live somewhere where there is less chance of being bothered by kids. That doesn't mean she doesn't like kids. Why give her $ h i t about it???? Retired could mean a bunch of people living on social security. I don't see how that means a higher class of people.

Dot, I only WISH my summer home was there. That house has wonderful views. The old man who built the house in the early 1900s had a view of Mount Hood from his toilet. You can see Mt. St Helens. As you can see, the grounds are BEAUTIFUL!!! But the house is wayyyyyyyy too big for me. I need to have something a little more maintainable. :) We are looking at Vancouver Washington just across the Columbia River. The average home price is $250,000 there.

OK. Here's the pictures of Portland. Click on the link. The ivy grows on everything. The desiduous trees has it on them, so when they lose their leaves, it doesn't look like dead dry sticks. There are so many everygreens and green stuff all year around. I REALLY like that. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wayferlookin...m/ph//my_photos About half a Prozac and some good coffee will make you smile....;) J/K

Here's a picture I took when I was in Portland, Oregon, for my last vacation. It was a week before Christmas. This picture was taken at the Pittock Mansion. Not all the houses in Oregon look like that. ;) Can you believe how green the grass is in the freakin' winter???? I'm telling you there is NO place like the Pacific Northwest. I guess my picture is too big?? I will try to scale it down so I can post it again.
-
Yes, I forgot to mention that Eastern Oregon is high desert. They are pretty hot in the summer and get pretty cold winters. If you pick the Pacific Northwest, the coastal areas or the western side of the state is better. I agree with L McQuade, the rain isn't what people say in the pacific northwest. It drizzles, but you hardly ever get anything that requires an umbrella. The skies are overcast a lot. You will either get use to it or not. The beauty of everything else and teh quality of life there surpasses the lack of sunshine in the winter months. The elevation is lower in the areas I speak of and hardly every get much snow.

I think Oregon and Washington are the cat's meow. Whoever said it's humid, it is. But it's not the kind of humidity you get in the midwest because it never get really hot. The air is fresh, the land is lush, and you can find all kinds of outdoor activity there. I grew up in Oregon, so I am kind of fond of it. I have lived in 5 different states, and Oregon is the place I always go back to. I plan to go back as soon as I possibly can. Dot, I suggest Longview or Olympia Washington. Grants Pass, Oregon is kind of nice too. I REALLY like Medford and Ashland, Oregon, but the housing is higher there than anywhere else in the state. I belive Longview Washington has a lot of retirees, and it is close enough to Portland, Oregon to be able to shop. You don't have to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes, or many thunder storms in the northwest. You will see them in Eastern Oregon though. The only thing you have to worry about is an occasional (really) earthquake or a volcano.:) Although San Diego California is the absolute most awesome place to live, housing is ungodly priced.:( Maybe I'll see you up that way some time soon!;)
