  1. Laleo, Maybe I'm slow but it didn't seem like you weren't necessarily telling Georgio to get a job at McDonalds but that it would be better than digging this whole mess up. Was I right?
  2. CW, No harm here. I can understand as I had to deal with it for my kids. Thankfully, I'm pretty tall and big guy so WC usually didn't try to mess with me. I'm not a violent person but can usually "convey my displeasure effectively" to anyone who messes with my kids.
  3. Oldies, I agree that in public forums they were taught one way. However, I saw people try to twist them in many ways. Mostly WC types. In private. NEVER in public. No, in front of new people, it was always "we love our kids." However, regular attendees were usually on the receiving end. All of my comments apply to TWI-II. Wasn't around for the first one.
  4. Oldies & CW, One thing I saw in TWI-II was a trend toward IMPLYING things versus actually stating them. That way they could still tell you what to do (like whack your kid) without saying it. An example I saw personally: Mom is told to use her rod of correction to quiet a child in fellowship. Kids squirms more. FC yells "You need to get you control of that child now!" It scared a new (to TWI) mom and caused her to hit the kid harder with a spoon. Would she have otherwise? Never saw do it any other time. However, now she was in front of a group of people, embarrassed and very nervous. Did anyone tell her to hit her kid again harder? No. Was that the result? You bet. I took her daughter for her and sat outside. The girl was about 3 or 4 and somehow couldn't sit motionless while this windbag droned on for almost an hour teaching. On a school night, no less! It went past 8:30 at night while he read sections from an encyclopedia on his favorite topic. Ugh! Anyway, the girl calmed down outside and started rubbing her eyes. She was just beat. Any parent with even the slightest clue would suspect the kid was tired. I don't fault the mom though as she was scared to death and trying to do what she was told. She reacted out of fear due to the harsh direction of someone essentially telling her to hit her kid again. That jerk would be safe in a court of law but I question if he could wiggle out of it in God's eyes. JT
  5. CW, Thank you. This was VERY useful information for me. Nothing to do with this thread but for me personally. I appreciate you taking the time to put this up. JT
  6. Rascal, Amen! Georgio, Is she still in TWI?
  7. Georgio, I think it would be very difficult as she was your legal guardian. Was there some stipulation in the settlement directing it to be put in an account for you by the judge or insurance company? Most importantly, do you still have any of the original documents from the settlement?
  8. CW, If the guy in AK was an employee or representative in any way (which it sounds like he was), it's almost negligence if they DIDN'T know about it. Any organization is responsible for it's representatives. If it's an employee, I believe you can be held criminally liable. You can do CYA stuff with good lawyers but it's inconceivable that they wouldn't at least know about it.
  9. Rascal, Even though you posed your questions to oldies, I'll add that I am NOT saying anyone lied or misrepresented anything.
  10. Oldies, Have to agree with you there. CW, It sounds as if you have or had documentation that people outside of your local area were notified. Was all corroborating evidence stolen? Did you file a police report? If I'm prying too much, tell me to shut up. I ask because it upsets me to see people get away with these things. I came to GSC to gather information from an outside source. It's done that but it makes me want to see those genuinely guilty of such things prosecuted fully and given a cellmate named "bubba" who will take good care of them. (I'm told even inmates hate child-molesters) You've probably already thought of these things but I had to ask.
  11. I was about to ask the same thing. It says: "You don't have permission to access / on this server." Is it something I said? ;-)
  12. Shaz, What do you think happened with Isaac? Do you think that's what God meant or do you think it was an "oops?"
  13. Mandii, Great point. Even TWI taught that he was "vexed" or skewed. If that's the case then they should have also at least considered what you said.
  14. Mandii & CW, I agree with both of you to a certain extent. Even in TWI, I never assumed that a person's actions in the OT or NT were guaranteed to be God's will for my life. There were those who analyzed everything to death looking for "new insight." The worst was somehow assuming eastern culture was always SOOOO Godly. While I'm sure, for example that Abraham was a great man, it doesn't mean everything he did was perfect. To me, that doesn't mean the OT is just a collection of wise sayings. Nor does it mean that the other end of the spectrum is true either: that EVERYTHING they did was supposed to be a lesson. I believe that whoever wrote the OT was inspired by God but was recording the actions of the people of that time. Rascal's example is exactly what I'm talking about. That was used at a TWI class (AC or ACS) to show how highly they regarded hospitality. Nothing wrong with taking care of guests but where did God EVER say to do such a horrible thing? They went on and on about this topic and forgot about what happened to this poor girl. I don't know why the father did this. But to somehow imply that is a lesson from God, to me, is crazy. Do I believe this happened? Yes. Even by TWI's standards of "what does the Word say?", there is nothing here saying God said to do this. JT
  15. Mr. H, You may be right. I couldn't remember where it was but was pretty sure he made the claim. If I can find my AC sillybus, I'll dig for the quote. Oak, Too funny! Sweetpea, Too stupid to plagiarize or too stupid too come up with it himself?
  16. WW, I love watching Terry Bradshaw do football games but this was bad. He normally talks much faster and is very animated. It seemed like he hadn't even seen his cue cards until he came in that day.
  17. Oak, "Helps a few?" You are being pretty generous today. :-)
  18. Ignoring for a minute the source or even if it's a valid statement, it's not guidance, imo. It is, at best, a vague philosophical principle. It can mean almost anything you want it to mean. This is, imo, very typical way-speak. This statement can't be taken as guidance as it doesn't actually give you a course of action. It puts all of the interpretation and decision-making back on the person asking. Translation: no help at all!
  19. Flay, I THINK he used Bullinger's Star chart similar to the one in the back of the Witness of the Stars book. Could be wrong. I wish I had my silly-bus to check. Hopefully, someone will have it. JT
  20. Teknon20, No harm done here either. I'm glad you care enough to not take someone else's word for things. (Weren't we told to do that in TWI at one point?) By the way, I was in your shoes less than a year ago so I can empathize. I'm not very savvy either about this type of web site either. It's been a learning experience and everyone here has been helpful and patient with me too. Also, if my attempt at humor was bad timing, I'm sorry. JT
  21. LooKout, It's not just you. Why use private email addresses? This site has private topics so... I'm more like 80/20. Maybe Teknon is really Terry Bradshaw? ;-) Just kidding!
  22. SNL!? Hmm..from SNL's past, who would play this cast? I nominate Chris Farley as LCM. (Yes, I know he's dead) Chris Rock as...well...does TWI still have any minorities? They were one of the most caucasion groups I had ever seen.
  23. Was the video of the home fellowship they showed a stage set? There were no doors or windows. ??? The pictures were from a house but the live clip looked like a stage.
