''Third Aid'' and other TWI catchphrases...
JustThinking replied to jezusfreaky's topic in About The Way
Adding "in the household" to daffynitions. For example, Agapeo became "the love FOR God in the renewed mind in manifestation in the household" under LCM. -
Rrrr.... the whole country thing. Early in my TWI days, I asked about it. "Why is so much of the ministry's music country?" In fact, at the time, it seemed like almost all of it was. The answer I received from my TC and BC was that country music was "hot." Really? This was the late 80s. Was there a huge country revival that I missed? It was the end of the "hair metal" bands ear, as I recall. Grunge would come along not too far in the future. I always felt so bad for the our folks who weren't caucasian and/or "country" trying to identify with "country in my veins."

''Third Aid'' and other TWI catchphrases...

They even eventually dropped some of the WayferTree terms but not all. Twig became fellowship but Limb stayed Limb. It was supposed to avoid confusing people. As if calling a state (or as TWI dwindled, states) a freakin' "Limb?!" Board of Trustees became Board of Directors. Never knew what a trustee was anyway. There were probably more but I've flushed them. "Believing Believer" as the term "believer" became polluted in LCMs world Carnal Christian = anybody wearing a cross or who disagrees with us. Contribution for the phone hookup = mandated division of the cost of the call between all attending grads for a phone hookup to DeadQuarters. -
Papertrained, It is likely the event was a cover to recruit newbies for a class. It would be obvious that you weren't going to write a check so why bother with you? Not to be harsh but that was the mindset.

BTW, my title was "difficult." I earned that by actually using the books they sold me and catching multiple mistakes from one chowder-head leader after another. And we went through string of bozos who could barely pronounce ENGLISH words, let alone Greek or Hebrew!

Ok, here's the irony to me. When a nobody moves, the baggage goes. When a CORPS person was useless and totally screwed things up, they shuffled him/her to a new area without warming the newly inflicted. Great, thanks.

"Many Ways?" Gee, I thought there was only one, Pat? :-)

How about all of the "sounds-like-every-other-song" music that they did with the choir? They're so memorable, I can't remember any. :)--> My top honor has to be held for an INTRODUCTION, not a song itself. Craig Martindale talking at the beginning of the tape with all the ridicule songs done back in the 80s. Tom something? Something about being an empty, the homo song, etc. He does this goofy laugh that sounds like even he doesn't sound like the tape is a good idea. Even for him, it didn't sound genuine.

Awww... Shaz, I think you're a sweetheart. I too know a couple who went back in after: 1. Being told they were going full time corps (During LCM's Most Excellent Adventure) 2. Then told when they got to ROA that they were being dropped because they "weren't corps material." Whatever that means. No explanation. 3. Later being booted out for not living up to their corps calling. Really, no kidding. They willingly asked to come back about 5 years later! Talk about your gluttons for punishment. As long as there are people who like to be abused there will be others willing to do it. I used to think TWI would fade away. Now I realize that there will always be at least a small group who want to be told what to do. Where is Raf with that coffee? :-)

They sold a print of his family tree for years in the bookstore for Goodness sake! How much more can the weasel make of it?! Any of you have YOUR family tree sold for profit at your church's bookstore? The guy wanted me to pay for the privilege of having HIS family tree on my wall?! Why would any... Stopping now as the arrogance of such behavior has me too annoyed.
-
Raf, For what it's worth, the Way's bookstore used to sell a copy of his family tree. How's that for a bit self-involved? JT

PJ, Is it true that the person's name was Craig M? LOL!

Do I have to wear a nametag and move to some randomly chosen place in the middle of nowhere? -
Oldies, You scare me. ;-) I can actually picture the poor guy triumphantly taking on the forces of darkness and ignorance. Saw it all the time. "Oh, you didn't know that [insert odd TWI teaching here] then let me inform you."

Did you think TWI would/could fix itself?
JustThinking replied to JustThinking's topic in About The Way
Mr. H, LMAO! -
WW, I heard something similar in more than one place. "Seeing fruit" was used in reference to growth in a twig. I never saw it used to directly refer to people in the way Dougie referenced.

Shaz, I had the impression it was an isolated incident from his little "concession speech." Did you? JT
-
I NEVER in all my time in TWI heard anything official that said anything of the sort. Not even close.

Exie, Good question. It was more your perception. Did YOU think it had broken? If you just decided it was wrong/bad then the last choice would probably be your answer. JT -
Many have expressed the sentiment that they at one time thought TWI was right or could be repaired. Did you ever feel this way and think that TWI would, in some way, "fix" it's problems? I know that there may be other possible answers so feel free to go for a write-in candidate.
