With Craig being the big star of stage and screen that he was... (ok, I'm trying to keep a straight face) ... perhaps he meant to say "thespian?"
-
Hooner, Martindale's first name is Loy. He went by his middle name, Craig.

Debt being a bribe from the Adversary that puts one to sleep spiritually.
-
Trefor, That's easy. Because he assembled the vast well-qualified research team at his disposal including ... uh ... uh ... hmmmm .... wait... (scratches head) Ok, never mind. He made it up. ;-)

Goey, Amen. Do I think that these arguments are true based on 9/11? Why would events of human interaction have any bearing on the existance or nature of God? Methinks Goey nailed this one.

Hooner, Since you were in a Wierwille-ite offshoot, they would have carried his teaching that it was masturbation. Craig Martindale taught in his class that Eve was a lesbian and that the "form" that the Devil came in was a woman. Adam's "sin" was not confronting Eve. Craig's yelling was so bad that it was absolutely mandatory that a new student have heard him teach at least once before taking his class. How were the teachers in your group? Did they yell at all? Just curious. Did you ever see any video of Wierwille? If so, did you notice people imitating his mannerisms when teaching? Back to our original thread...

Eve being a lesbian. (Even the corps person teaching the class admitted to not really "seeing" it.) Blind obedience to leaders. LCM's scheduling teachings. (If his life was so well scheduled, where did he find so much time to have an affair?) Disobedience to TWI was possible evidence of homosexuality.

Hooner, If the leader is still "old-school TWI" then he decides EVERYTHING. After all, in his mind, he's walking by the spirit. My experience was that they always had to be at the center of everything. If everyone was doing just fine without him, he would have to grab the spotlight back. JT

I thought assignments were announced later in the year?

Hooner, I haven't been out of TWI that long and am still facing some of the same feelings as you. Each person will have his own opinion of the people and doctrine of TWI. I joined TWI because of what I thought it was. We left when we got honest enough to admit it wasn't. However, we still have a great family which we can make what we want. What worked for us was learning to enjoy how much we still had with our immediate family, friends and loved ones. We can read the Bible, hang out with people without trying to recruit them for something and just live. To be honest, it didn't take us long to not even miss TWI. Some of these feelings may go away faster than you think. JT

We always heard "do your best and God does the rest." That has worked pretty well for us. Disclaimer: The above words were said by folks in my twig who had no TWI title or job whatsoever. Maybe that's why I didn't have the bizarro standards that others have suffered.

Chas, It has to beat board game night.
-
Lindy, I do think I was there. In thinking back, were there any "social" events that weren't cover recruit jobs? None come to mind. JT

Welcome Hooner. Pull up a chair and stay as long as you like.

Trefor, You aren't the first. My first TC was too and was corps. CP1: In-the-dumps spiritual perception and unawareness.

WordWolf, ROTFLMAO! Oops! I meant out of TWI! Sorry! :=)

The Homo Label In TWI-2, I saw the "homo" label used when there was NOOOOOO evidence at all. It was simply a deduction on the part of some of the dumber people I've met. By dumb I mean low IQ. Inability or lack of training in logical thought and reasoning. Scary because they were either a BC or LC. Here's how it goes: 1. Homos are insane (Proof is because LCM said so. Seriously) 2. Not believing the Word is insane. 3. TWI is only one teaching rightly divided Word. 4. You disagree with TWI. 5. The Word is the ministry and the ministry is the Word. 6. Disagreeing with TWI is the same as disagreeeing with the Word. 7. Therefore you are insane. 8. Therefore you are a homo. Now if you had any "homo tendencies" in their mind, it was conclusive. For example, did you dress too well, enjoy ballet or go to art school? Well, there you go. Must be gay! Were you a woman who had short hair, not married by the age of 30 or play sports? Must be gay! 1950s eras media stereotypes substituted for walking by the spirit of God, the Bible and common courtesy. So glad to be out!

Trefor quote: "which you deserve an Oscar" ROTFLMAO!

The stupidest thing the CURRENT twi president ever said
JustThinking replied to Linda Z's topic in About The Way
She sounds like most TWIts that I knew in leadership. In fact, neither statement surprises me at all. Reading the WayRag was considered "working the Word." Lying wasn't lying. It was just seeing things from a different perspective because they were more "spiritually mature." -
Raf, I should have pointed my question to insurgent. Sorry. More coffee please!

QRV (Queen Rosie Version): "....I am very thankful to get my yearly supply of spiritual goods—my covered wagon is filled to overflowing as I head back out to the hungry hearted in the wilderness." Literal translation according to usage: "I was inspired by the other wannabes to kiss your behind even harder. It was obvious that you enjoyed this and might even promote me and put me on the payroll. That way I can spend more time bossing my little toadies around. Was my letter over that top enough? Please say it was! Put it in print too so I can know that I've done what is most important which is getting in the WayRag."
-
Raf, Sorry, that was kind of vague. My question is regarding the applicability of the articles. Is there anything in them one could actually learn from and use or are they the same stale statements we've heard for years? The reason I always found the magazine unhelpful was that they tended to be repetitive and generic. Articles about finance, for example, usually had vague things like living within your means but always got back to giving money. I can't remember any article talking about real life "nuts & bolts" issues. Maybe my expectations were wrong but they just had no value for me. JT

Gack! Those titles are just like the music: generic and completely forgettable. Raf, Do any of them actually have specific, useful advice? Or is it the usual WHAT you should do not how to do it?

In another thread, the topic of cover events used to recruit newbies came up. For past TWIers, these were seemingly "normal" occasions that were in fact just planned/staged events used to recruit people. Was this just TWI-2 or did it exist in TWI-1 as well? Under LCM, all or most real life things people do were shelved. In it's place, fake events designed ahead of time for recruitment took over. For example: High school graduation parties (no, really) Tupperware parties Meals Shopping anywhere Backyard BBQ Picnics Is this still the case with TWI? Or does the new regime actually allow you to do something and NOT carry a class registration card? Also, what was the most inappropriate occasion you saw used for recruitment?
-
Wayward, Wow, I hadn't thought of that one in a while. There had been at least two graduation parties in our area over the last few years before leaving and both were designated "outreach" events. What does this tell the kid who graduated?!
